    Why have an 'off-grid' capable camper and go to campsites all the time? Seems a bit of a paradox really. Presumably you've heard of 'Park4night'?

    • @Howell2Travel
      @Howell2Travel  2 месяца назад

      Thank you for your question! I can understand how it might seem like a bit of a paradox to have an off-grid capable camper and still choose to stay at campsites. But for us, it's really about having the best of both worlds.
      We've actually been off-grid for the past few days, which is why your question gave us a bit of a chuckle! The beauty of having an off-grid camper is the freedom and flexibility it provides. We love the ability to go off-grid, escape into nature, and enjoy the solitude when we feel like it. There's nothing quite like waking up in the middle of nowhere, with just the sounds of nature around you.
      At the same time, we also appreciate the social aspects of camping at campsites. It gives us the opportunity to meet up with friends and family, enjoy shared experiences, and even make new connections with fellow campers. The camping community is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and being at a campsite can be a very social experience, which we enjoy when we're in the mood for it.
      So, for us, there’s no paradox at all-just a range of options that we can choose from depending on what we feel like doing at any given time. Whether it’s off-grid solitude or the camaraderie of a campsite, we love having the flexibility to do both.
      I hope this helps you see why we enjoy mixing things up! Ultimately, camping is all about personal choice and finding what works best for you. Whether you prefer the quiet of an off-grid spot or the social scene at a campsite, the important thing is that you’re out there enjoying it in the way that suits you best.

    With the DVLA on V5C did you get campervan or van with windows status with your conversion? What was the gross weight after conversion?

    • @Howell2Travel
      @Howell2Travel  2 месяца назад +1

      Hi Paul, great question and we were/are going to cover these type of questions in another video, obviously only for UK residents due to different laws in every country -
      So the DVLA and V5C is a read up with various websites and forums - if your looking yourself make sure you have the time and dates as recent as some rubbish and old info out there.
      It is quite onerous and hard to get it changed to the term Motorcaravan these days via DVLA, even if you follow all the advise in having windows, bed , kitchen you are more likely to only get classified as "Van with Windows".
      Your insurer who ever this maybe (We use a specialised ones like most who can advise individual needs and asses on your own criteria. They will insure on your vans intended use (camper in our case) so you would have zero problems here.
      Weight is important but for us who use this as its insured intended purpose (camper) its never fully loaded so always below any max weight for our vehicle. Lots of sources out there to view and easy to find.
      Bear in mind tax and insurance price points if you change anything with the DVLA - this could impact on what you pay for tax and insurance, until you decide to do this you will not know either way so prepare to be happy or sad post decision in monetary terms.
      Hope this helps

      My current micro campervan is a Nissan NV200 (4.4m long x 2.01m wide x 1.96m high) gross weight 1800kgs but I could never get motor home status with the DVLA they kept moving the goalposts. The final straw was them insisting upon an awning. Enough said. Anyway I was considering upgrading to a Fiat Ducato sized motorhome and Consort Motorhomes in Leeds seem to do a good conversion and are trustworthy.

      @@pauljosephhealy - Yes been there done that with the goalposts, I think the same with the awning but sometimes you settle for the happy medium with least resistance. As long as all above board and no surprises down the line then happy days. Nissan is a nice vehicle but moving on up can be a challenge in what size suits you and your intended purposes.
      Fiat Ducato is a nice option and Consort homes seem to get good reviews and great options, good luck with this and hope all goes well. :)

    A very informative video guys, thank you. Obviously apart from budget, age probably plays a big part in what type of camping people choose. For example younger people might choose a rooftop tent on a 4 by 4 so they can get amongst the wilderness just as some people might be happy with a tent. We've done all that and are now at an age where we have to have all the mod-cons, shower, toilet, comfy bed etc. We have the same colour sprinter as yours and it's the best thing we've ever done. ❤👍🚐💨

    • @Howell2Travel
      @Howell2Travel  2 месяца назад +2

      We completely agree with you about the importance of age and the variety of choices available. We’ve been through it all, like most people, before finally settling on a Sprinter Campervan. Sometimes, there’s nothing better than being in a tent, listening to the rain on the roof, and feeling closer to nature. It’s similar in the van, though not quite as rustic.
      We share your sentiment about reaching an age where some luxuries are necessary, yet still wanting to experience the outdoors and a bit of a nomadic lifestyle. It seems to be in our nature to return to basics. 😊 The Silver Sprinter is indeed a great choice, and although it was difficult to obtain, we persevered and eventually succeeded, as with all good things!
      Have a wonderful day!
