When does God descend on earth? This is set forth in Chapter 4 slokas 6, 7 and 10. Let it be noted that God is never 'born' but 'descends'. He appears as an avatar in our midst when virtue declines and vice predominates, to protect the virtuous and destroy the vicious, 'yuge yuge'- 'age after age'. The last expression does not mean that God appears in all the four ages or ' yugas' of a 'kalpa' (one complete time cycle, of 5000 years). He appears only in the penultimate stage of the Kali yuga, the dark quadrant, the word 'dark' signifying the obliteration of all that is virtuous and noble and the preponderance of disharmony and sorrow. It is clear to all discerning minds that we are indeed in the dark quadrant.
The popular belief that change is always 'progressive' is based on faulty notions of Science. The truth is that time ordains a degradation from the purest to the pure, to the impure and the impurest. The commentary explains in detail the four yugas.
The Bhagavad Gita in the form known today emerged in the Dvapara yuga as also numerous other texts and practice manuals that seek to explain or reach god. These are at best imperfect efforts that have not halted the inexorable fall in values all round that we are witness to. The Avatar of God hence becomes essential to recover the pristine in man and the world. He descends in the Sangama yuga or Confluence Age to reestablish the Golden age.
Chapter 4 Sloka 10 describes the nature of men who attain god-like qualities deserving their inheritance of the Golden age. The Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University teaches the method and the attainment of the same under divine guidance.
