Alex Austin You know I like Solaire but it's really lame that they forced that reference in there when they gave Cervantes a praise the sun victory pose. Real talk though, something from Dark Souls has a high probability of being in SC6.
Come trip down, and face it, you're old Voucher, you go down your waterhole FREEEeeeeeee your MIIII-IIII-IIIIME KER-BLAM! Your wall waits for your use FINE! Not very good, just do it for you It turns out you lose It's up to you to learn, it's up to you to shine Like a bamboooooo -days before looking up lyrics on the internet
I would like to congratulate you guys on making the most cozy, welcoming and uplifting intro to any series. Makes me feel a little bit less of a loser every Friday i stay home
Fun Fact: In the UK version of Soul Blade, Li Long's nunchucks were changed to a Sansetsukon due to the fact that gangs were using nunchucks after seeing Enter the Dragon. This is why Michelangelo uses a grapple hook in later series and why TMNT was later renamed to Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles in the UK and parts of Europe.
Allow me to explain the naming situation. So, the game is called Soul Edge in Japan, but was renamed to Soul Blade in North America and Europe because they wanted to avoid any potential legal shenanigans, because a man named Tim Langdell thought he owned the word "edge" in it's entirety, and was trying to sue anyone who dared use the word in their title, including Mobigame, Marvel, Future Publishing, 20th Century Fox and eventually EA, who completely wiped the floor with him in court.
You can't tell me you wouldn't want to hear a history documentary with the Soul Blade announcer... "Welcome to World War 2... the stage of History"... D-DAY: "The grueling battle ended with the victory of... Allies. YOU WIN!"
One of my favorite PS1 games of all time. Soul Blade was a masterpiece. I honestly love this game more than most of the Soul Calibur games that came after it.
I love the Soul Series so much, seeing this run worse on a PS3 than my old PS2 physically hurts me. Now since I'm a nerd about this stuff time to correct Pat's 「CRAZY TALK」about Soul Calibur lore: 1)Li Long *has* appeared again (he's mentioned in SC1, he's a bonus character in SC3 and he's an updated real character in SC3 Arcade Edition. 2)Bangoo does not 'become Rock' 3)Cervantes is *not* dead in this game 4)Sophitia breaks one of Cervantes' swords, Taki kills Cervantes, Siegfried kills 'Soul Edge' (though he's not named Inferno in this game he *is* still the same entity) 4)Seong Mi-na is Korean, not Chinese 6)Tira isn't the worst, Scheherazade is.
spiffythealien also Yun Seoung debuted in SoulCalibur II not IV. Some real winners in that game with Yun Seoung, Generic Lizardman, Assassin, Necrid, And Berserker...
I like how high the damage is. Just in case you forgot they were beating each other with metallic weapons, it really gets to simulate the feel it has to get sliced.
Pat's wrong, Lilong, Hwang, and most of the old school precursors to later characters are playable as bonus characters in Soul Calibur 3. They use create-a-fighter move lists but they have unique appearances that can't be fully replicated. Is that a form of Crazy Talk? I don't think so, since Pat was just wrong lmao. Also, Seong Mi-na is Korean, not Chinese. Also, Cervantes was just super magic evil dude and Sophitia defeats him, shatters Soul Edge, and he then tries to fight with the broken Soul Edge, Taki jumps in, kills Cervantes. Then Inferno is like "No, jk lol" and resurrects Cervantes. Play SC3!! That's my favorite. I used to destroy people in that before my college days.
SilverWolf1988 they can be replicated, since unlocking them grants you their costume pieces. Their 2P outfits and voiceclips, however, are unique. Also one or two of them became series staples, such as Amy
I probably had no fucking idea what I was doing as far as actually being good at the game, but I was fucking unstoppable with the create a character dual nunchuck fighter.
I believe Seung Mina is using a Guandao here even though throughout the series she is known for many different varieties of pole arm weapons like the Japanese Naginata or the Korean & Chinese Hyup Do.
I remember as a kid back when this first came out my uncle rented this from a blockbuster along with Megaman 8. I couldn't help but think about "The Real Adventures Of Johnny Quest" everytime I saw siegfried's face in the intro. 96-97 was a fun year for me growing up especially gaming as a kid.
Man... Rock sounds like me on the toilet after I ate too much Mexican food with extra hot sauce... or me in front of the toilet after I drank to much Jaegermeister
This game has aged exceptionally well, ESPECIALLY that intro. Edge of Soul is the single greatest intro track in ANY fighting game, period. Edge Master Mode is a thing that more fighting games desperately need - a huge-ass story mode full of cool unlockables and special fight conditions.
The weirdest thing going from SoulCalibur to Soul Edge for me was Siegfried’s personality. In Soul Edge he’s all cocky like “I never had such an easy victory!” but in SoulCalibur he’s a much sadder character. It was neat to see how much he changed after becoming Nightmare for part of SoulCalibur and all of SoulCalibur 2.
Siegfried joined with some bad eggs and raided a castle or some shit. Y'know, medieval tomfoolery. He decapitated some dude and held his head up in triumph. When the moonlight shone on him, it revealed that it was his own father's head. Siegfried went into such an insane state of denial that he traveled across the continent to get Soul Edge.
I know this is old but, Sophitia destroys the small Soul Edge sword and gets gravely injured from it. Taki saves her and kills Cervantes. Taki carries Sophitia away and Siegfried attempts to take the sword when Inferno possesses Cervantes dead body. Siegfried impaled Inferno and breaks Faust in the process but only after this does he siezes Soul Edge becoming the new host and unleashing the Evil Seed onto the world.
*Gasp*... the curtain has been withdrawn and the radical as fuck soundtrack to Max's intro has just been revealed to a lot of us TBF/Max Fans who never put our detective hats on and tried to figure it out before now. Now go... LET THE LEGEND COME BACK TO LIFE~!
It's almost as if Namco was sued and had to rename the series from Soul Edge into Blade, then Calibur because of Edge Games, a horrendous patent/trademark troll company that sued Mirror's Edge and Edge Magazine too, and EA destroyed them finally after them bullying gaming companies for a decade! That's the best thing EA has ever done. Too bad they only decided to do something good for the industry with their legal and monetary power when it directly affected THEM instead of other smaller companies like Namco.
Samoutuomas damn thanks for the history lesson man. Nice to hear EA doing good things once in a while, even if it's only out of personal interest for themselves
Edge of Soul is the best intro song ever. I am 26, and my coworkers get to listen to Tool, Korn, and Edge of Soul whenever I can force them too. You need hype? Just play Edge of Soul. You need to bake some cookies? Edge of Soul. You need to do some laundry? Edge of soul. That OP is the BEST.
I first played the shit out of this game when i was like 5, and it was the only fighting game i played for like 3 years. It will forever have a special place in my heart
My friends and I sank months of our lives into this game in college. The Edge Master Mode and its unlockable weapons gave the versus mode a great shot of variability.
「Act Ecchi Ni-San」 this ripped off tekken which ripped off virtual fighter which ripped off Spiderman which is a side story of WoW which is a homage to warhammer 40k
I feel like Namco has ported over these exact attack animation assets for all subsequent games in the Soul series. Like, they didn't even re-do them, they just kept re-using them, all the way up to SoulCalibur V. 'Cause they hold up really well.
Oh Man I miss Soul Caliber, I remember playing so much SC2 with my brother and our best friend for hours. I remember Mitsurugi was the first character I played as but my main became Raphael. My brother played as Maxi while our best friend played as Kilik. I still think SC2 clothing design for most of the main cast for SC2 and beyond looked the best(SCIV Raphael looked great, same with Maxi) while others got worst like Kilik, Taki,Ivy as the games went on. I wish Bandai Namco would bring it back and reboot the franchise but bring the cast from SC 1 and SC 2 back(no console guest characters)
Hoo boy, Seung Mina is Korean, both her and Xianghua were in 2-4 at the same time, and Xianghua was replaced with her daughter. Seung Mina got no direct replacement, though Xianghua's son has some of her moves.
So this game has a mode where you can quest around and get new weapons for each character. There's also an ultimate weapon for each character. Some of the ultimate weapons just have good stats, while others have more unique properties. The craziest one I remember is Hwang's. IIRC it had average to high-ish damage and a low defense rating, but the blade is both invisible and twice as long as his normal weapons. So he ends up with this huge invisible blade that's longer than any of Siegfried's weapons but has all of Hwang's speed. I loved this game.
Both of you are wrong about the lore. Sophitia destroys Cervantes' sword, Taki finishes the job by killing Cervantes, and Siegfried defeats Souledge/Inferno and turns into Nightmare shortly thereafter.
Sophitia: "I'm sorry."
record scratch freeze frame
Li-Long: "Yup that's me. I bet you're wondering how i got here."
'Well it all started back in the summer of 69"
The three great constants of the Soul series. A skeleton pirate, hot ninjas in spandex and a blind, old man's codpiece.
Don't forget big swords.
Big......THROBBING.....Swords.
N00BSYBORG you forgot about firelink shrine... Eugh, that was awful
zanpakuto man These swords are literally crackling with sexual energy.
Alex Austin You know I like Solaire but it's really lame that they forced that reference in there when they gave Cervantes a praise the sun victory pose.
Real talk though, something from Dark Souls has a high probability of being in SC6.
N00BSYBORG
Who would you choose? My vote is for Soul of Cinder, but I feel like Shiva would also make a good choice.
The intro to this game is a fucking 11/10. Great to see y'all giving it the love it deserves.
Without Woolie to bring the barrel into the office this week, they had to pick a REAL GAME. Who woulda thunk.
You say that like its a bad thing
"What's that thing you're wearing girl? That's horrendous!"
Voldo, you have no room to talk about how someone else dresses.
You weird Psycho-Mantis wadbag.
Hypno-Thorax cut him some slack he's blind
Realistically that'd be a sound question from Voldo of all people. He's blind.
"We all need to shine on~ to see~ how far we've come on journey~"
Should we shine on like a crazy diamond?
This fucking intro is still the best, after all these years. :')
Richter The D dont stop...BELIEVING
how FAaAaAR, yet to go, searching for our star
Come trip down, and face it, you're old
Voucher, you go down your waterhole
FREEEeeeeeee your MIIII-IIII-IIIIME
KER-BLAM! Your wall waits for your use
FINE! Not very good, just do it for you
It turns out you lose
It's up to you to learn, it's up to you to shine

I would like to congratulate you guys on making the most cozy, welcoming and uplifting intro to any series. Makes me feel a little bit less of a loser every Friday i stay home
C.L. Sandridge I hope you heal completely without complications buddy!
It's a really fun intro.
The hypest intro ever. Period.
Woolie on a journey of fisticuffs of his own. A Maddentown fisticuff.
the guy with the machete finally came back
The theme of Final Fight starts to play.
Maddencuffs everyone fights and deceives each other
Shirtless Machete Man better be ready, Woolie ain't the frightened boy he was when they last met, he knows what he's messin' wit'
Or alter the chemicals in each other's brains, if you will
Damn. I was really hoping the game was apologizing for its hard crash when it hiccuped after the "I'm sorry."
The grueling battle ended with the victory of....*Reads script* Rock.
tailedgates9 *dreamcast wheezes*
Condolences to Woolie as he takes care of his family.
Yeah. TAKES CARE of them.
*(cuts to Woolie cocking a gun)*
Bit poor taste, should work on the comedy me droogie.
His sister passed away.
I've seen this in a few places, but haven't found a source for this. Where is this info coming from?
Oh, damn :( I was hoping it was just a shitty baseless rumor. Poor Woolie T.T
RenovatedLee I've been wondering for years what was up with Europe's hate of nunchuks.
swords? fine
Sai (Stabbing weapons)? fine
easily replicated big stick? fine
two sticks chained together? BAN THAT SHIT!
So England was responsible for ruining the later years of the original TMNT cartoon?
Also his three pronged staff also his little knives sticking out from both ends to replicate his original Nunchucks. It kinda looks jank tbh
Allies. YOU WIN!"
A tale of Doods and souls, eternally retold...
One of my favorite PS1 games of all time. Soul Blade was a masterpiece. I honestly love this game more than most of the Soul Calibur games that came after it.

2)Bangoo does not 'become Rock'

4)Seong Mi-na is Korean, not Chinese
6)Tira isn't the worst, Scheherazade is.
spiffythealien also Yun Seoung debuted in SoulCalibur II not IV. Some real winners in that game with Yun Seoung, Generic Lizardman, Assassin, Necrid, And Berserker...
Hey it's that game that stole Maximilian's stream intro.
EDIT: Goddamnit Pat stole my joke too!
Maki Kuronami Pat is becoming PREDICTABO!
could this be the work of Crazy Talk?
Makes sense since it wasn't funny
+INTOTHEMEATGRINDER of course it was
GOTTA GET TO THE EDGE OF SOUL!
(Edge of soul)
Pat imitating Cervantes's yells is amazing, I can't stop laughing.
I like how high the damage is. Just in case you forgot they were beating each other with metallic weapons, it really gets to simulate the feel it has to get sliced.
At least she apologised for nearly breaking the recording
SHINE ON!
WHAAAAAT IS GOING ON, DOODS!
Pat's wrong, Lilong, Hwang, and most of the old school precursors to later characters are playable as bonus characters in Soul Calibur 3. Cervantes is immortal. After he got possession of Soul Edge, he stopped aging.. He secretly is like the legend because he never dies.
I probably had no fucking idea what I was doing as far as actually being good at the game, but I was fucking unstoppable with the create a character dual nunchuck fighter.
Soul Blade! The game might have held up, but the disc sure as hell didn't!
If Woolie was here, I feel he would do something cowardly.
And we would love him for it.
Hope you're doing well Wools.
The slowdown only enhances the experience. It's like Tekken 7.
I believe Seung Mina is using a Guandao here even though throughout the series she is known for many different varieties of pole arm weapons like the Japanese Naginata or the Korean & Chinese Hyup Do.
gotta love Pat and Matt Rambling over one of the greatest intros in gaming history
Dude! She knee'd him in the nuts so hard it almost crashed the game!
Even after all these years, Blade's intro is still hype.
Siegfried looks like an older Rance.
*LET THAT SINK IN.*
Nah, younger Rance. With older Rance armor.
Rohan Kishibe and 『Heaven's Door』 he fucks them all
Is Soul Edge better than the Hyper Weapon?
It's possible. Rance predates Soul Edge by like, 6 years?
*THE NINJA GIRL FELL*
"M'BOY SIEGFRIED!" Same bro, same
Fun drinking game everybody: Take a shot everytime Pat is wrong about something and then take two more when he doubles down on being wrong.
HYPETAUR THE HYPE CACTUAR! Voiced by Symphony of the Night Alucard.
This game has aged exceptionally well, ESPECIALLY that intro. Edge of Soul is the single greatest intro track in ANY fighting game, period. Edge Master Mode is a thing that more fighting games desperately need - a huge-ass story mode full of cool unlockables and special fight conditions.
A tale of souls and swords eternally hitching.
-donated 50$: what’s up doods!?
ah yes the moment where you decide to go to sleep and then this happends
Same.
Guys, you have my infinite thanks for doing a fisticuffs of Soul Blade. Seriously. Thank you.
Thoughts and prayers go out to Woolie and his family, Matt and Pat, you guys are doing great!
Oh sick, it's Soul Edge! Wait.. what the fuck is a Soul Blade? Oh. It's just Soul Edge. Alright, cool.
OMG the nostalgia I'm getting from this! Being 5 years old playing this on my brothers ps1 :,-)
Li-Long was in Soul Calibur III along side Hwang as bonus characters. In the arcade version they were made into full characters.

Li Long came back in soul calibur 3.
Also you were thinking about Yun Sung, Matt
The absence of music and Woolie hurts my heart.
THAT SOUL BLADE'S INTRO WAS HYPE, LETS GO!!
this game is my childhood, used to play with my dad. That intro sequence brought back some nostalgia points.
the grueling battle ended with the victory of... this jank-ass Soul Blade disc
arashi86 the body of SOUL BLADE was injured, BUT THE SOUL STILL BURNS
I know this is old but, Sophitia destroys the small Soul Edge sword and gets gravely injured from it. Taki saves her and kills Cervantes.
Taki carries Sophitia away and Siegfried attempts to take the sword when Inferno possesses Cervantes dead body. Siegfried impaled Inferno and breaks Faust in the process but only after this does he siezes Soul Edge becoming the new host and unleashing the Evil Seed onto the world.
A tale of souls and swords... ETERNALLY RETOLD.
Soul Calibur 2 was the best entry
3 had Chronicles of the Sword, making itthe clear winner. If I go another fucking year without 6 being announced, I'm gonna get REAL fuckin' loud!
It's pretty great. I'd love weapon master mode with character creation. The story and gauntlets were fun.
AfroMetalMizu The only one I played was 4 and that was because it had Darth Vader and Starkiller in it.
Matthew Coyle Weapon Master was the ish!
I like 5 and 3 a lot but that's a good one TOO.
DEEP IN THE NIGHT
*Gasp*... the curtain has been withdrawn and the radical as fuck soundtrack to Max's intro has just been revealed to a lot of us TBF/Max Fans who never put our detective hats on and tried to figure it out before now.
Now go... LET THE LEGEND COME BACK TO LIFE~!
I almost choked to Pat doing the Cervantes noises.
Damn, I wish I can see Crazy Talk manifesting now. God Damn, Pat.
I've waited years for this moment. Ever since you guys played Soul Calibur 2!
Always loved the Intro. It’s almost like your joining them for Fisticuffs.
TO SHINE!
Yo, this is my favorite series of fighting games. Soul Calibur 2 was my shit back in the day.
This plays like soul calibur
Even got some characters that look like they are from soul calibur!

If your soul is blade, what is your mind
Mount.
GUN
Jonathan Almanza jacked
Wesley Snipes.
Jacked obviously.
This looks pretty dang good for it's time.
Damn it, if only they had broken each others weapons, then it would have been a REAL fisticuffs video.
Soul series fights just aren't as good without the music. :(
4Wilko The intro is actually super good and its crazy that I like more than soul calibur 1's intro.
Every year or two I go back and play that intro again, to remember the hottest shit our young minds ever saw.
Hey it's my favorite fighting game, Virtua Tekken X
"There were good people on both sides of history."
Nice fail there, Matt
My friends and I sank months of our lives into this game in college. The Edge Master Mode and its unlockable weapons gave the versus mode a great shot of variability.
THAT LAST MATCH WAS SO HYYYYYYPE
THE HYPEST GAME FREEZING ON RUclips!!!
This game looks familiar... Is this Tekken?
「Act Ecchi Ni-San」 why do you feel the need to give me cancer
Is this the new world of street fighter 3 ?
It's actually Virtua Fighter
laughing_quintesson.gif
「Act Ecchi Ni-San」 this ripped off tekken which ripped off virtual fighter which ripped off Spiderman which is a side story of WoW which is a homage to warhammer 40k
FINALLY HOLY SHIT
I remember spending hours when I was little fighting the final boss, sweating up a storm. Good times.
Friday Night BEEECHUUPYAHHP
My Childhood
One of my favorite games and you couldn't even be bothered to clean the disc
I feel like Namco has ported over these exact attack animation assets for all subsequent games in the Soul series. Like, they didn't even re-do them, they just kept re-using them, all the way up to SoulCalibur V.
'Cause they hold up really well.
It's a shame Woolie had to leave due to the allegations of sexual misconduct.
Taki and Sophitia work together to kill Cervantes, then Siegfried shows up and defeats Inferno.
“Future Dance”
“The Gears of Madness”
These are some damn good song names
Tekken 7’s slowmo feature crawling its way into earlier Namco entries through time
"Cervantes literally removes his face to show his skull in the intro"
some minutes later
Matt: Is Cervantes alive in this one?
Can't wait for Soul Calibur 6 at PSX. Along with DOA6, Darkstalkers 4, and DMC5 too.
Wow Shine On? Geez, I can't unhear this from Max's stream...
Isn't the song called Edge of Soul, though?
No Woolie depresses me
Woolie couldn't make it due to falling in the barrel
Rozco or, y’know, the family emergencies
Alex Austin his human family or his barrel family?
Listen.
Taki is the toptier waifu of all fighting games.
Flustered full stop
I main Taki myself but I must insist you present proof of this.
I mean.
What else can best a busty ninja who is also badass? Taki is like the perfect waifu.
No other fighting game lady can best her.
Baiken, Nine, Whip, Juri, and Morrigan have her beat, but Taki IS a top-tier waifu still.
Oh, um! I am! One and the same!
Instead of talking about DDLC I'm talking about waifus!
whenever woolie is not on screen all other characters should be asking ‘where’s woolie?’
Hoo boy, Seung Mina is Korean, both her and Xianghua were in 2-4 at the same time, and Xianghua was replaced with her daughter. Seung Mina got no direct replacement, though Xianghua's son has some of her moves.
This is the only RUclips intro I watch EVERY TIME
So this game has a mode where you can quest around and get new weapons for each character.
It's a bit strange to have just Matt and Pat in a fisticuffs video, but I take it they'll just go the usual 2BFP route.
Li Long did come back! He's one of the secret characters you find in either 3 or 4
