"F in chat bois", the webseries.
TBH, since your departure from the zaibatsu, you've just been making stellar content. Especially your deep dives into development of different games and studio histories. You're pop series was so needed in my life. Thank you. Hitomi would be proud of you. You are doing God's work.
That intro...*sob*
This is seriously nostalgic. My friends dad was a programmer working for Bizarre Creations back in the 90's-early 2000's and did work on a few of the games listed here, like Fur Fighters was the main one he worked on. A game i still have loads of fond memories of even though it's a bit of an unknown game really.
Noobie2k7 i owned fur fighters as a kid and adored it, i even wrote fan fiction about it lmao
@@decoyps2 it was a really good game I thought. But as far as nostalgic classics it's never one really talked about.
Fur Fighters was an AWESOME game ! People are missing out on a really fun shooter
No way, my dad was a programmer at Bizarre too 🥺
One of my favorite games is blur and I will never like a racing game as much as I liked blur.
>Pandemic
AND IIIIIIIII WILL ALWAYS LOOOVE YOUUUU
I'm glad Bizarre had it's own episode. One of my favorite franchises ever is PGR. And one of my favorite racing games ever aside from PGR is BLUR. A super underrated game. Kudos Matt!!
i'm glad you're making another game documentary series. i always thought your insight into gaming history and the corporate side of game culture was interesting on best friends, so seeing you expand that into multiple series is great. really looking forward to seeing more!
Westwood Studios Please
First defunct development studio that popped into my head.
Blur was an amazing game. It was my favourite game growing up. Best racing game of all time imo
God I miss Activision. Geometry Wars and Blur, specifically, are two of the best games I've played, like, ever. The way that Bizarre went (I talked with them quite a bit back in the day; thoroughly nice, the lot of them) is just a complete sin for the quality and variety of the games they produced. Me and a ton of friends still tout Blur as the definitive arcade/combat racer since, like, ever.
Side-note: I didn't realise I was this famous. I don't even know why I was driving that Viper; it's not fun on that track at all. :D
It was owned by Microsoft before, I hope they can reopen the studio to remake blur or at least they can do it as a new forza next to Froza horizon and forza motorsportt
That feel when you didn't know who they are, but at the same time, you played and loved most of their games.
I've never heard of this studio before but dang I like that pumpkin fellow in their logo
I love Blur, its one of my all time favorite games! My friends and I spent countless hours playing against each other. A Blur re-release would be awesome!
PGR is a great series. I sunk many hours into PGR2 and had a laugh that the showfloor mode shown towards the end, the player hadn't unlocked the Speed 12. I remember when they went up for sale and figured Microsoft would buy them. Oh well, their farewell video played with Clare De Lune is hit hard when released by the studio.
I think a lot of the members went on to Playground Games.
They did they seem to love that song alot as it is featured in forza horizon 4's timeless fm station
Blur is a damn good game. I still got my PS3 copy since day one.
Blur was excellent. The graphics are great, fun gameplay.
to use a british term.. Boom Boom Rocket was the dog's bolllocks. That soundtrack slaps.
It has been 0 days since a Professor Scott Steiner reference
Ooooh. I like this series concept. Nice work!
Also, James Bond, Jr. is underrated as both a show and a theme song. Big part of my childhood, so thanks for that! 😁
"Mario kart with real-life cars" is how I've described Blur to the people I've introduced it to. Everybody has ended up loving it, and I've even gotten a few non-gamers to enjoy it. It's got split screen and LAN on both PC and PS3. You can completely turn off rubber-banding AI if you want. I still break out my 2 copies and hook up 2 PS3's with fam around the holidays.
Fun game from a studio that was indeed gone too soon
I recall being introduced to Bizarre Creations via their ‘08 shooter/racing hybrid The Club. Been playing it lately and it’s aged quite well in spite of its flaws (especially when you consider that most TPSs were of the cover-based kind back in the seventh generation).
12:24 Blood Stone actually got a FAR better singer for its theme
Looking Glass and the crazy-ass tech they made for System Shock 1 and Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri totally deserve a look.
Fur Fighters was such an underrated game, I still want to finish that game someday.
Wow that clip of the blur 2 prototype, I thought for the longest time that was a split second 2 prototype for years lol
I miss the Project Gotham Racing games. They were so good.
I love BLUR. It’s an amazing racer. And quite ahead of its time with the social media integration (which no longer worked by the time I picked it up)
Man Geometry Wars was good.
Blur is one of the most underrated games ever created
This is crazy coincidence! I JUST bought The Club today! And I played a crapload of their other games without even knowing they were from the same company! Really sad to watch this, loved all the stuff I’ve played from them.
After watching this video, I am so relieved that Activision didn't acquire Rare. They probably would've gotten the chopping block too
The moment I seen their company logo with the flying pumpkin head & the lettering that it was Rodney Matthews. I'd recognize his artwork anywhere.
Yooo you should do Black Box next. The Skate/NFS guys. I swear mid-2000's racing games devs are cursed...
Blur was such a good game.
Man, I really dug Geometry Wars and did try Blur when it came out. As for other studios' suggestions, Visceral and Westwood would be nice to be showcased in future episodes.
Such a great video, can't believe it took us this long to watch it. Fatal Rewind always was a curious, difficult game and MSR/PGR were incredible.
Thanks so much for this and for speaking out on how Blur got the shaft even though it was really great 💎
Never heard of this company but I LOVE their Pumpkin character
Whoa...I bought Fatal Rewind with my Genesis in 91 or 92. Didn’t know it was a Bizarre game or it’s backstory. Very cool.
Gosh, half of this series is gonna be legendary old UK studios. The industry is barely clinging on over here anymore.
Pandemic please. Destroy All Humans was my first favorite game ever, I STILL pop it and the sequel in on occassion. Plus it had the only behind the scenes features I ever cared about, because they were presented in a very fun way like military interragations and with a fun 50's vibe
I'm really curious about Midway since they're in the intro
I still remember when teenage me was glowing with excitement when learning that former developers of Bizarre Creation had founded a new studio under Take-Two/2k's branch to develop a spiritual successor to the PGR franchise. You should have then seen my look of disappointment when I learned that it was a mobile exclusive title and you should've the look of betrayal when I've played it the week of its release. A sight to behold.
Dude, their Treasure Planet game was pretty solid. It's a shame more people don't remember it. You won't believe how many times I've mentioned it with the only reply being
"Wait, there was a Treasure Planet game?!"
Great idea for a series, can't wait to watch the rest! So many studios have had their lives cut tradgically short by you-know-who-and-his-friends, there should be plenty of material for you. Sadly.
I feel like I'm gonna need to make a note of all the games in these lists though, some absolute gems in there. I'd like to vote for a video on Grin, they made some fantastic (and occasionally less-than-fantastic) stuff. Also Dreamcatcher Interactive :)
My request would have to be United Front Games
Ditto
I really hate what they did to that studio sleeping dogs was a great game and square Enix was stupid to release that game not to far away to the release of GTA God damn 5
I'd love to see you pour one out for a personal favorite dev, Factor 5. RIP Rogue Squadron.
Still a series of games I play to this day and wish I could play some modern versions of.
i love these kinda videos that give you a little windows into the past.
The edits on this new video are ON POINT! Good Job!
I'd love to see an episode about Toaplan to be honest. Surprisingly few people know about them, considering how many people know about the legacy they left behind.
Came for the games, stayed for the obscure wrestling-references.
Gotta love how many companies Activision and EA have destroyed not
this is something I definitely needed in my life. Thanks matt! Hope to see more
Fur Fighters is still one of my favorite games ever
Blur is such a stellar game, it just feels so good to play with so much room for hype moments. Begging for a remaster, or hell, just a current gen re-release.
Yo, I think you're my new fave RUclipsr just based off the strength of the "Scott Steiner Math" promo!!! Hahahahaha
That was a good video, what about good old shiny entertainment
Awesome video, Matt. Thanks for making this! Fuck split second, hoping for a blur 2 eventually still!
Blur was frickin awesome, I still play it sometimes when I want to go fast. The power-ups aren't bad at all, they're essential to the experience. These aren't Mario Kart puckups, they spawn at designated points. they're also (relatively) low-impact, a direct shunt/mine will cost the driver maybe 1 second. There's only one pickup with any RNG, a rubberband item that places 3 weak land-mines in a semi-random pattern in front of of the lead driver. And even then- learn to dodge oncoming obstacles. Filthy casual journalists, If you have problems with the powerups in Blur then git good.
And there's a crapton of single-player content too, it's at least a 20-hour game (50+ if you want EVERY LIGHT... and you do)
Man, I forgot Matt had Griptonite in the opening for this. I loved their stuff on the DS, and would watch the hell out of an episode about them. I know he hasn’t done a Gone Too Soon in quite a while, though.
God I miss Pandemic
Uhhh....
Aged like milk.
My opinion for a good gone too soon would be Lucasarts.
12:42 Okay, who else lost it at the Steiner promo?
Damn you Matt xD
The Club and Boom Boom Rocket was BOTH underrated gems and I had no idea they came from the same company
The Killing Game Show was an awesome, if very difficult, game with one of the best theme songs ever. I never realized that was made by BC since I didn't know about the name change.
I will always cherish PGR, the only arcade racing franchise that could rival Need for Speed back in the day.
I'm glad that at least some found their feet at Playground Games, because their DNA is tangible in Horizon and it makes those games so much better.
i knew a guy who worked on blur he said blur was originally supposed to be a realistic arcade racer but that activision insisted on the mario kart stuff that made it just like split second in the end they also wasted a lot of time removing curbs from tracks on their insistence >_
F1 97 :( so many studios of old gone and forgotten. Their F1 games although when compared to the PC were rather crude on a console? they were amazing, the fact they had Damage models, failures, AI who crashed now and then, dynamic weather, fuel and tire effects, on board with a steering wheel. F1 97 was an amazing game and one of the best F1 titles prior to 00's many features were removed for future games like the commentary by Brundle and Walker which was a damn shame, Their cheats were also amazing the Classic black and white race mode was great. their first game off the 95 season was also a master class it was fantastic and just fun to play, i actually got that a year after 97, and it was so very good the only game that was close to F1 97 was TOCA and Numan Hass racing, TOCA may have been a little ahead but for open wheel game play? F1 97 was a champion.
Really like this concept of video and as a series in whole. Keep it up!
The Club was so underrated, It looks generic AF, but by Jesus, Mary and Joseph the gameplay was so good.., It's a "driving" 3rd Person shooter, it's quite an concept to grasp on words, it requires to experience it to get it.
This is cool content, keep this series up McMuscles!
Everyone is like: We need Portal 3
I am like: i need blur 2...
I need blur 2...
38 Studios is a potential contender. They made one game that was actually pretty decent, then died.
Hoo boy no, 38 Studios left right on time after wasting millions upon millions of dollars of taxpayer money. Go watch the Wha Happun on Kingdoms of Amalur, that story is. . . It's wild.
I wrote this before that video was put out.
@@Sakanero ohhh, fair, didn't see the date was just scrolling comments. Sorry!
Lol. No prob. Have a good day.
@@Sakanero you too!
Evolution Studios that worked on Motorstorm and Driveclub.
Wiz n' Liz was a fantastic game. It had so many minigames and secrets.
I know it's not actually dead but I wouldn't mind a look into wtf happened to Criterion Games
I fuckin knew that pumpkin head logo looked familiar. I played that Treasure Planet game when it first came out. It wasnt at all bad, pretty ok the gameplay reminded me of Jak n Daxter I was entertained and replayed it a few times.
Great idea for a series! I’m looking forward to more
Why does that FFX piano get me every damn time...
If you take suggestions, how about a video on Clover Studios or SCE Studio Liverpool. Also, maybe Whoopee Camp! for that millennial PS1 nostalgia.
Keep up the work Bro. Always the funniest! Love from Croydon in England
Crazy Games, the studio that made Blue Stinger and Illbleed
I found out the founder of the company died pretty soon after Illbleed.
Pgr3 is easily my most played xbox 360 game
"Oh, huh, Bizarre Creations? I dunno the name let's see what they-
THEY MADE PGR A N D GEOMETRY WARS?! WHAT THE FUCK ACTIVISION?"
subbed for you being american and knowing about Raising Hell`s the killing game show and Manfred Trenz`s turrican colour me impressed.
It's really too bad that Blood Stone failed. It's actually the only game I own from this company and I enjoyed it quite a bit. RIP Bizarre Creations.
> *Metropolis* Street Racing
> Project *Gotham* Racing
That slick DC reference.
Also, Fatal Rewind is a much cooler name, imho.
I feel like a lot of the videos in this series are gonna be "Activision or EA ruin everything"
I played Bloodstone on release, I thought it was fine, certainly didnt regret buying it. I loved Blur though, didn't know they were prototyping a sequel, such a shame. Also Fur Fighters is incredible, I really wish that got a remaster.
Oh wow I remember playing colony wars and it's sequel a lot as a kid
PGR4 is the pinaccle of arcade racing games. The best arcade racer ever created. Blur wasn't that bad either. It was Activision who ignored game and did nothing in case of marketing. At least in middle and eastern Europe. It looks like Activision demanded certain game, changed it to make it more "cookie cutter" style, safe for marketing and popular trends, just to don't spend money on marketing and blame studio for not creating game that doesn't stand out.
I played the Blood Stone multiplayer for over a year straight and had a lot of fun. It's not the best game ever, but it's right up there with Goldeneye for me.
late on seeing this but this is a great idea for a series, there are a lot of video game companys that went under too soon (a lot because of EA) so theres gonna be plenty to talk about there. If i have to request a studio to talk about (aside from Clover, which was in the intro so im guessing thats a future episode) i think Neverland (the studio behind the Lufia and Rune Factory games) would be a great choice, a studio with a ton of history (having started in the 90s on the SNES) with a lot of interesting games under their belt and a beavy of history to go through. It would also be one with a somewhat happy end, as while the company went bankrupt in 2013, many members from the studio went onto Marevelous AQ to make Lord of Magna, and now their finally getting the chance to make Rune Factory 5 like they wanted too back in 2012.
Free Radical (Another British Developer) were definitely gone too soon. Made some of my favourite games still to this day.
I loved Blood Stone so much
Kinda surprised that Ian Bell got his start in Bizarre Creations before making his own companies such as Blimey! Games and Slightly Mad Studios. Those two companies are most famous for their racing titles.
Intro adorbs
Bro your too dope obviously new to the channel thanks again
A couple of my old lecturers used to work at Bizarre.
Please do United Front Games (Sleeping Dogs). Rest in peace, my sweet Canadian boys
Do more gone too soon about the great devs that were gone too soon
Orbital Media & DreamRift are two developers I miss. They focused on Nintendo handhelds and really did the "old school" style games incredibly well without making them pixel heavy or too hard (not all pre-32 bit games were balls hard) and if they came out now they would have flourished in the indie scene and Switch owners would have lapped up their games.
