Great video! Totally agree that Pet Sematary the book is way better then the movie. Such a devastating study on death and grief. Louis Creed is such a tragic character in the novel. I am going to be reading We Have Always Lived In The Castle very soon, straight after GarbAugust! 😀 Love the way you talk books! The novel Let The Right One In, in my opinion, was better then the movie(s) although I loved both versions.
Oh agreed. The flashback scenes with Timmy Baterman made the undead scarier. In a way, the dead in Pet Semetary were a more serious take on the Deadites.
Knock at the cabin really upset me because I really preferred the book 📖. But it was like m night shyamalan was mad at the ending and he just wanted to do it himself
I'm reading it right now too! So had to skip that bit. Let me tell you - don't do what I did. I was getting so into the book that I decided I couldn't wait and watched the movie. Gaaaah. The movie is SO not good and I wish I hadn't watched it. I'm back into the book and trying to pretend I don't know what's going on. It's still good but I definitely ruined some of the "reveal" for myself. Enjoy your read!
Definitely agree with you on Pet Sematary. Stephen King's books have always been a bit hit or miss for me, but this is one of my favorites of his. Both movie adaptations are kind of mediocre, which is a shame because I think this story has potential to be a really great film. Other books that are better than the movies, I'd say The Woman in Black by Susan Hill. The movie is full of cheap jump scares, whereas the book is subtle, atmospheric and effective. I also like The Exorcist (book) more than the movie. Don't get me wrong, I love the movie also, but I found the book got under skin much more.
@ResurrectionDreams.-Totally agree with you on The Woman In Black. The movie with Daniel Radcliffe made too many changes to the story that just did not work for me, & I couldn't stand all the stupid jumpscares, whereas the book creeps me out everytime i read it. If you want a more faithful adaptation of The Woman In Black then I would highly recommend the made for tv adaptation (that version was actually my introduction to the story, & it still scares me as much as it did when i first saw it as a kid). I also would highly recommend the the stage adaptation if it's ever on tour near you.
I'm so disappointed to hear about the movie version of The Cabin at the End of the World! I absolutely loved that book because I loved how you're never sure if the world is really ending or not. It's a shame that the movie wasn't as great
Recently I have read a horror story book named Adams descent into darkness, it was really spookiest book I have ever read .I suggest this book to those of you who love horror, suspense, thriller stories
Awesome Video! I am going to have to check out Sand Castle. Books that were better than the movie in my opinion are: 1.) The Cabin at the End of the World 2.) Hocus Pocus 2 3.) Doctor Sleep
It's funny that you describe Merricat as a little girl in We Have Always Lived in the Castle, because as you read her telling the story, you forget that in the first paragraph she's revealed to be 18 years old. Gives it another layer of eeriness.
The Ritual - oh my goodness. The film on Netflix - - I thought was pretty good. But seriously - the book was WAY scarier, way better. Be warned - it's quite long but the movie - in my opinion left out the biggest and most amazing part of the storyline. Mild spoilers ahead - Luke is being pursued by the monster from the film but he's "rescued" by a Swedish death metal band. Wackiness ensues before the book gets really dark and leads to a fantastic, violent climax. One of my top horror novels of all time.
Completely agree! I read the book because the movie was so good but they are both very different once you get to a specific point. The atmosphere of the book is way scarier than the movie but I kinda like the ending of the movie a bit better? Need to rewatch.
By a weird coincidence I read Dean Koontz's "Odd Thomas" shortly before seeing the movie version. Thoroughly enjoyed both but to compress a 400+ page novel into a 2 hour film was a big ask! Obviously some plot points and characters had to be excised and I can't help thinking that perhaps a 6 part tv series might have worked better. Watch the movie by all means but for the full immersive experience stick to the book!
I feel like people who don't like the book Cabin, don't because they either don't like the ambiguity, or it bothers them when certain bad things happen within the plot, or both...so I wonder if the changes M. chose to make for the film are directly correlated with those complaints. Personally, I agree with you. The book is a masterpiece. 🤗
I don't know if you listen to audiobooks or not, but a really cool topic would be horror books that are better in audio format than physically reading them, the exorcist audiobook comes to mind WPB is an amazing narrator.
This is an interesting idea. I actually just started this year and haven't listened to many yet, but I'll keep this in mind. Thanks for the suggestion!
Disclaimer: I have not seen the movie yet I disagree with you, though, about We Have Always Lived in the Castle. The book is very depressing and, at times, disturbing, but I think Merrycat’s perspective is actually quite bright. Her relationship with her sister and the cat and all her talk about living on the moon shows a naivety that made her the perfect narrator for this pretty depressing book. So if she’s still narrating the movie, I could absolutely see it being bright and colorful. Great video! I’ll subscribe and look forward to the next one!!
I have watched the movie, my sister went through a Sebastian Stan phase where she watched all of his movies lol The movie could be good for someone who has read the book and understands the symbolisms of these colourful shots etc. but to me, an average movie watcher I was so incredibly confused. AFTER watching the movie I read the book, and honestly, the movie didn't really do justice to the story and felt a little jumbled to me.
frankenstein. the book far exceeds the movie- and though i appreciate what frankenstein (movie) did for the horror movie genre... its hard not to get upset that we lost all the incredible discourse between creator and creation
I think that the only real twist that can be in a M Night Shamalan movie anymore is that he'll actually stick true to the source material.
We Have Always Lived in the Castle is an absolute masterpiece. Shirley Jackson is so underrated. She was brilliant.

I had to rip my headphone out when you started talking about The Ruins, its next on my tbr 😂 I'm excited to read it now!

Excellent as always! Love your vids, I always learn something and add a new book to my TBR!
Alice Cooper shirt! Good call. :)

I have a soft spot for Tommyknockers. That is a UNDERATED book

I Am Legend. My favorite book of all time and none of the movie versions can hold a candle to it.
You should do a video about books you want movies for
Answer: All of them. But for real, I think we can all say the Dark Tower series lol

I will order the book next payday

I saw that movie years ago then decided to pick up the book last year and wow. The book wad amazing. Still.really enjoy the movie.

I’ve just finished reading a great horror based on real life events. ..Don’t Play Games With The Builder……hope they make a film our of the book?
Pet Sematary is a good movie, but the book blows it out of the water!
Dracula. No movie comes close.
I don't know if you listen to audiobooks or not, but a really cool topic would be horror books that are better in audio format than physically reading them, the exorcist audiobook comes to mind WPB is an amazing narrator.

The Shinning book was better than the movie imo.
I think we can say that about all of the Stephen King books except maybe Salem's Lot. They did an amazing job with that one!
@@suzybearheart530 many people do think the shining movie is better than the book as far as I'm aware.
Disclaimer: I have not seen the movie yet

@@mischiefmanagedxx592 I really want to watch the movie now!
I absolutely love the ruins not the movie though
wow ive never seen that pet semetary cover, very cool
Can you please make a video that is the opposite of this one? Horror movies better than the books?
A simple plan by scott smith is a great book
The movie version of that book is actually pretty good.
frankenstein. the book far exceeds the movie- and though i appreciate what frankenstein (movie) did for the horror movie genre... its hard not to get upset that we lost all the incredible discourse between creator and creation
Read Black Tide!
Peter Straub Ghost Story is the worst one. The movie version was absolutely horrible
