I used to breed chameleons. It wasn't for money. I lost money doing it. I just love them. My biggest concern when breeding is that they too often go to a home that doesn't know how to take care of them. They'd get sick. If you know how to take care of them, they're easy. If not, they get sick and die fast.
I ordered 3 chameleons one time because I was doing a behavior experiment for a BIO class and the smallest one arrived, really sick. I told the seller who said that they would send another but I'm like "no! " I regretted doing it the first time. If you follow right steps and purchase the right things from the get go, they can be simple to take care of. I kept them healthy for as long as I had them. But gave them to another home. The temperature and humidity has to be properly regulated. The temperature was easy. Humidity, not so much. But they can be such great pets. Did you ever socialize yours?
That's pet industry in a nutshell. So many wonder, intelligent creature could have lived a full life, but end up in the wrong hands. Even chain pet stores often dont know how to correctly take care of something, and they end up spreading the wrong message about the care.
"How is it that they're making their way thru south Florida for years, and nobody is talking about it?" Because Chamillionaire isn't a big name the the rap world anymore, that's why.
The way they where picking the chameleons off of the branches. Lord, you aren't supposed to pull them by their torso, it can harm there bones as they are very sensitive, you're supposed to allow them to crawl onto your hand on its own free will. Picking them up by there torso can not only break or damage their bones, it can stress them out ALOT. That's why they're usually really dark when being handled if they've never been handled before.
These people obviously don't care about the well-being of the animals or else they wouldn't be doing this to begin with. They're not "herpers", they're profiteering.
They don't even want anything to do with people even if they are herps haha chameleons hate us and I'm okay with that mines hates Me 👍🥹 unrequited love for life.
@@caydes every chameleon is different in temperament. I'm guessing you have a veiled, they're typically I'll tempered. But I've had some veileds that were fairly chill.
Being as they eat insects their impact on the environment is probably unnoticeable. It's not like they eat other native animals and insects are rather numerous.
I just wonder how many have been set loose or have escaped, though. It seems like supply exceeds demand and a hundred thousand chameleons or more would make a big impact on the environment collectively. It's also that they displace native species or compete with them for the same foods and transmit diseases and viruses that the native species haven't developed any immunity against. The introduction of exotics has really caused a huge amount of damage to specialized ecosystems worldwide and some invader species that have become naturalized have caused indigenous species to become extinct. When trout and bass were introduced as sporting fish in other areas of the world, it was a disaster for many of the smaller native fishes. I look at nature as an infinite web of life, where all the myriad strands of it are interconnected, so if we disturb it, even with a single escapee, it has an effect on everything else.
mike i dont think you understand how a food chain works. if the chameleons eat all the insects then what are native species that also eat insects going to eat?
Wow. I live in South Florida right at the edge of Everglades National Park (and actually only a couple of minutes from Robert Is Here shown in this video). I do a lot of hiking in The Everglades and other wild places. I've come across other invasive species, like Burmese Pythons (check out the videos on my channel), Black and White Tegu, Basilisks and many more. But I've never come across a single chameleon, nor was I ever aware of "chameleon ranching".
They should release some rhinos somewhere where they arent native. They would become an invasive species, spread like hell and BOOM, off the endangered list xD

its not illegal trade, its illegal disposal. Chameleons are 100% legal to own in the US and FL, its when people release them into FL or wherever that is the problem
ooohhhh i gotcha i gotcha. well it might not be for much longer, i wouldnt be surprised if veilds and panthers were the next two on floridas ever growing banned species list, due to all of the invasives
Legal trade causes most of the problems. People obtain animals legally, tire of them, then release them into the wild. How about we just stop keeping wild animals as pets?
Can someone explain to me how Bearded Dragons are "exotic pets"? 0:37 I've found two of these lizards on one hike. 2:48 "In our free time we don't go out drinking, we go out herping." I don't believe he knows how wrong that sounds.
they are not killing or eating chameleons. Infact, these catchers are actually helping grow their numbers. making them less likely to go extinct. The world needs more Chameleons.
Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo the video is over now
In case no one was aware a chameleon is probably the most helpless reptile. All it can do is hide. That’s why it moves so slow. If you ever see a chameleon on the ground something is most likely wrong. They’re basically little nuggets walking around

Trust me, they are so grumpy XD
antonio barrera I have a veiled chameleon she will tere people up

They are definitely not chill haha. My female veiled chameleon is the biggest grump ever

I liked how the animation wasn't really dramatic it was just a cute cartoon which I really liked.
Adûnâi wtf ok...
+Adûnâi booohooo I'm a totally mature adult that just can't stand cartoons boohooooo
that Chameleon and Gator though
Rey Louise Lumbang alligator: wtf is this leaf on my head?
chameleon: silence water horse
They chill
I watch u fuck shit up
Even gators need a snack every once in a while.
The chameleon is going on the alligator so people wont take him/her. It is like "You want to take me!? I dare you to try!".
2:20 "Ok, who would risk getting shot at in the middle of the night for a chameleon?"
ME
youre also trespassing and causing a family immense fear.
S A M E. I love chameleons soooo much although I already have 2 😅❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Who in his or her right mind just shoots at a trespasser…. Trespassing is one thing risking to harm a human is something else - the US is plain crazy

Yes, mine were completely socialized. But the temperament belongs to the individual. Some don't get stressed being handled and others are shy.
charnae young how do you make the humidity okay.
I'm glad Mine lived a good happy 5 years

Jurassiccraft101 before i got to that part i was so confused by your comment 3 seconds later... ohh I see😂
And yes wtf is " we go out herping!"
Jurassiccraft101 odd part is you are actually hoping to catch something when you go out "herping"
We go out derping
SIGN ME UP
😂😂😂😂😂
I mistook "secretive" for "seductive" in the title, and I was so confused for about 5 seconds.
Sounds about right
I just saw a chameleon on an alligator😂❤️
Where!?

1. they are invasive species, i dont think we need to be insanely cautious. and 2. they are herpers, who died and made both of you experts?
@Jordan Raffety to know what? i dont think youre getting what im saying
Invasive species also feel pain.
As a chameleon owner, that "herping" scene was so upsetting :( you NEVER grab a chameleon like that.
Seriously 😔
When I saw it it made me mad, bc they r supposedly Herpetologists but they hold a chameleon like that, really?
My chameleon hates being touch so seeing that makes me nervous

Love would be easy if your colors were like my dreams~
My chameleons name is karma
I honestly wouldn’t mind a few chameleons living in my backyard
You would if they were eating your plants.
Laurel Cook they only eat certain plants
@@laurelcook9078 the ones where I live don't eat any Plants I didn't know any of them ate plants!
Exactly. Florida is cool asfk.
I literally cried when I seen how they were handling the chameleons
I watched this with my chameleon
Time to move to florida and become a chamellionaire..
Nice pun.

Do you eat Chameleons instead?
Chameleons hunt, kill and eat native vertebrates such as lizards, mice, birds, frogs, etc
Never mind what escapee boas or anacondas can do.

they hide in the leaves, going out at night with flashlights is the best way to see their slight color differences

So cute
The chameleon and the aligator are friends
Splendidly vivid clips!
I don't think they hurt the environment. they are very slow and just eat whatever bugs they find
Because gosh forbid something damage our fragile bug population here.. sometimes invasive is too strong a word haha.
I love Chameleons 😍😍❤️
Beautiful lizards ❤🟢🔴🔵🟣🟡🟠
Thanks lots for this. 💖
Thank you 😊
“Who would risk getting shot at in the middle of the night for a chameleon?”

This animation is just 👌🏼🌷👏🌻 its cute and it works best
I love chameleons. They are fun and funny to watch.
Let's do our best to stop illegal trade of species all over the world
its not illegal trade, its illegal disposal. Chameleons are 100% legal to own in the US and FL, its when people release them into FL or wherever that is the problem
Captain Krunch i feel youre misinterpreting what im saying
ooohhhh i gotcha i gotcha. well it might not be for much longer, i wouldnt be surprised if veilds and panthers were the next two on floridas ever growing banned species list, due to all of the invasives
Sad but true.
Legal trade causes most of the problems. People obtain animals legally, tire of them, then release them into the wild. How about we just stop keeping wild animals as pets?
I wish people didn’t do this for money. Such beautiful and amazing creatures.
If they were to do it for money…crested geckos and ball pythons are the route they go…chameleons are dirt cheap nowadays unless u got a rare species
Well they are like ninjas of nature Chameleon no jutsu LOL
So cool to catch those in the wild!
very nice viceo, thank you!
thank you for that - that was interestng
I really need one as a pet one day.
I'm trying to imagine how that chameleon managed to get on top of the alligator's head hahaah. That's funny
Interesting story..... Love the animation
That chameleon on that aligator like "they see me rolling"
Do you guys think the chameleon-ranchers wear fedoras?
Almost certainly
There amazing creature! I've always wanted one since I've seen one in Holland

I have a veiled and he’s so cute. But, he’s hard to care for. So, if you can’t put in the money and time, don’t get one.
I have one and she's the cutest 😍
Wow... pretty cool.
Oh, I've been to Robert's before. It was cool.
My favorite animal!
Herping, that does not sound right!

So, let's just enjoy them!
he caught that veiled like a pro

"Grabs his pistol"
Me: 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Should I adopt or buy a chameleon..
This needs to be turned into a FarmVille-esque mobile game
Does anyone know any specific locations to catch chameleons in Florida? More specifically the treasure coast? I’d love to find skme
It's wild that they are so difficult to keep in captivity, but are can survive long enough outside to become invasive.
Lady : okay, who would risk getting shot at night for a chameleon?
Me : Lady you dont know me.
yay! chameleons are cute!!!!! and they're all in florida which is where i live
Chameleon are master of disguise
I love Chameleon's
