    Cavalry FC - Orlando City SC
    Facundo Torres scored a goal in each half to put Orlando City SC in control in their 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup Round One series with Canadian Premier League side Cavalry FC after a 3-0 victory in the first leg on Wednesday night at Starlight Stadium in Langford, British Columbia.
    Orlando City will now return home looking to close things out next week in the second leg with a comfortable three-goal cushion.
    The two teams traded punches from the very start, with both goalkeepers getting tested, including a reaction kick-save early on from Cavalry shot-stopper Marco Carducci.
    Orlando City would be the ones to strike first, with Duncan McGuire getting just enough on a ball from the right flank from Martin Ojeda to redirect into net for a 1-0 lead in the 21'.
    Orlando City were on the front foot and they stretched their lead to 2-0 in the 38' through Torres, who had the time and space deep in the Cavalry area to rip a left-footed shot inside the near post.
    Cavalry needed a response to pull a goal back in the tie and had a great look from defender Daan Komp in the 64' when his header curled over the crossbar.
    It was all Orlando City, though, and Torres tallied his second of the night in the 75' on a wide-open header into net off a perfectly placed cross from Ivan Angulo, sealing the 3-0 victory for the Floridian visitors.

    There was never going to be a different result. Good effort Cavalry, being matched with one of the best MLS clubs is tough.

    All 3 Canadian clubs were drawn against 2 Liga MX clubs & an MLS club. They were doomed from the start cause that's a tough draw

    Are these the CPL teams deserving of direct qualification to the tournament? Yeah, Central American and Caribbean clubs also lose by similar scorelines, but they qualify through a regional torunament. CPL teams have to be included in the Leagues Cup imo

    • @GWh135
      @GWh135 3 месяца назад +2

      CPL teams don’t really participate in any regional competitions, but Concacaf has to give every nation a chance to qualify somehow so they have to qualify via winning the CPL league or the playoffs. None of the Canadian teams are good enough to compete in any Concacaf tournament though so they always lose in the first round. The Central American teams are better

    The crowd turnout was horrible. Maybe the cavalry should figure out how to play a home game at home next time. People would have been in those stands at atco field. There was zero supporters in the supporters section, depressing to see.

      Figure out? What do you suggest? a $800 million domed stadium for a CPL team (average CPL attendance BTW is around 4,000).

      The supporters sections were closed. Also how much do you expect cavalry fans to spend on going to Langford for one game?

    • @MichaelWalker-wu2pq
      @MichaelWalker-wu2pq 3 месяца назад

      They're not a MLS team and they therefore don't have the money to spend on top of the line soccer-specific stadiums like MLS does. They are more like a lower division team that is going up against a roster worth millions from MLS. This is as good as it gets for crowd turnout.

    canadian teams aren't good enough yet to be in these tournaments. they should wait another decade or so. Their level is equivalent to that of US or Mexican 2nd division teams.

      Your entire football system should be reconstructed, it all revolves around Mexico and USA other teams have almost no chance of being consistent with the current system. Also MLS and liga MX should stop acting as if no relegation profits football, it only profits the wealthy people.
