    As a Verizon employee. Any speeds greater than 100/100 requires an Ethernet cable from the ONT to the Router. Also if your on gig and you still have a BBU you will come across bandwith issues until you get that battery back up swapped out for the newest power adapter. Any questions. Let me know.

      I have the Verizon G1100, want to "cut the cord," and have at most 1G. Does the G1100 support 1G or do I need to get another brand of router? The Verizon G3100 cost more than I want to pay so I'm looking at TP-Link and Netgear routers as a replacement for the G1100.

    • @tylerfromm09
      @tylerfromm09 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@texman1166 yes the G1100 can handle a gig. Not sure where you’re at but in Maryland the price of the router rental is like $3 more a month. Also there is a newer router than the G3100. It’s the CHR1000 which has way better distance, has a 2.4ghz, 5ghz, and 6 ghz wifi bands which just in my opinion supports and disperses the gigabit speeds better if that makes sense.

I'm moving into my new home tomorrow and just did the final walkthrough today and noticed that the ONT and power supply are actually inside the home and the fiber is ran from its own outlet coming from the outside service box. I've yet to open up the box yet, I'm curious to see what's inside.

    Thank you for making this video. Verizon claims everything after the box is my responsibility but yet they will not teach you about their equipment. The tech installed a Coax splitter from our ONT box between myself and my neighbor. So i am getting 76 mbps downloads yet im paying for 300. I use my own router and they keep trying to blame that even though my speeds we checked being wired connected (Cat7) into the outlet installed by the tech just so i could completely bypass my router. In summary, I guess I am trying to learn about this hard ware for when I need to redo their work. I assume these tech care very little about the quality of service they provide, or atleast in the philly area. Thanks for the video. If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it.

      Jerry K Verizon is supposed to have a direct 0FNR connection into both ONT’s. Then the coaxial cable leaves oneONT and only goes into the splitter for your building. The actual Internet link will leave your ONT over a cat six or cat seven cable, and then feed your router. You should have no connection whatsoever with your neighbors equipment.

    I’m making the switch from Spectrum cable internet 250/20 to Frontier FIOS 500/500. As for the ONT/DEMARC, does it have to be installed outside the house or can it be installed inside in the garage? If inside, they would have to drill through the concrete wall to run fiber from outside to the ONT. is this something they do? I would think so since regardless they would still have to drill through the wall to run the power to the ONT from the wall outlet inside the house. Next, once ONT is installed, whether inside or out, will they run the Ethernet cable from the ONT to where my router is on the second floor of the house? Or will they just hand it off inside the garage and then I would have to extend it the rest of the way? No phone landline and no TV service, just internet. Since only internet I would like to think this should be an easier install for them.

    Fiber cable type is not multimode to the box. Based upon color coding of the internal fiber cable being yellow that would indicate single mode. Because of the different wave length of lasers the two formats are not compatible. Single mode fiber can be run much farther than multimode cable. The general commercial color coding for fiber is orange for 62.5 micron MM aqua for 50 micron MM and yellow for single mode 125 micron.

      Upon having learned more about the fiber field from installing it over the past year, you are indeed correct that it is singlemode. However color is not the give, rather the number of strands. Is it necessary to run a plenum Cat cable since the ONT is outside and prone to weather? Ethernet CAT cables are not good for the outside environment.

    • @thetechstop3875
      @thetechstop3875  4 года назад +2

      Danial Khan There are many different types of cable. Plenum is meant for environments where the cable is run in areas that involve ventilation of the building. The coating of normal UTP riser cable is toxic, if burned. There’s also fire rated cable, and then there is an outdoor rated cable, but has a thick outer sheath. You can see that cable in one of my other videos involving the camera DVR. Plenum is not designed to be outdoors, however in this instance it is not seriously exposed, and should last the life span of the ONT.

From ONT, the connection to the router is: ONT > Coax > MoCA > CAT 5e > router. I have a coax outlet in my bedroom as well and if in theory it is connected to my ONT (which I don't know if it is), is there a way I could use that coax outlet in my bedroom to get a wired Internet connection?

    Thanks for the video. I have Comcast Xfinity cable now for Internet and cable TV. To save money (I only need Internet but Comcast wants close to $100 minimum from any customer regardless of what services or lack thereof you want) I am considering getting FiOS installed with simply only a 400-gigabit Internet service (no TV) plan. To my mind, the only connection I should need is an ethernet connection between the FiOS ONT box and a wireless router (e.g., Verizon's G3100), plus a power line for said router. All my devices are wireless. Unsure if I also need to plan for the ONT to need its own power supply from the house. I keep seeing mentions of a coaxial cable connecting to the ONT, but do not understand what for. Can you please describe/clarify what my set-up should look like?

    • @NO-END
      @NO-END 4 года назад +2

      If you are getting Internet only the ONT will have Ethernet CAT 5e or higher cable from ONT to Router. ONT needs to get 110 volts from outlet in home. All devices on network are wireless than the Ethernet from ONT and power adapter to power the router. Highly unlikely that you will get gigabit speeds via wireless but what I explain to people is if you only paid for 100 mbps up and down with 10 devices you are sharing 100 not all devices getting 100 mbps. On gigabit you are sharing up to 960 mbps more than enough bandwidth for everyone on network. When I hard wire I get about 890 down also the device that you would use to has to have gigabit network card a lot of people don't know that. Coax is used for Set Top Boxes for video and to give STB internet connectivity for On demand and TV guide Netflix etc. Also if you have Fios network extender you can use Coax to get Internet service for extender. Extender can also used Ethernet, but CAT cable would run from router to extender. On gigabit my extender is connected via Coax down I get 400 down max speed from extender via Coax I didn't want to run Ethernet cable from living room to bedroom when I already had Coax in bedroom.

      @@NO-END Thanks for this explanation! I have a similar concern. I am getting FiOS Wifi Home Internet 200 Mbps service installed with no TV plan and currently waiting for the technician to come in a couple of weeks. I don't want to pay 10$/month for their equipment, so I'm planning to buy my own. However, I don't really know if that should be a modem+router gadget or is it just a router or a modem itself that I need to buy (because I don't know what exactly they will be installing). And besides, I am not sure if any gadget will be suitable (for example, I have my old NETGEAR C3000-100NAS N300 Cable Modem Router, which I believe won't work in Verizon) or must it be Verizon-branded gadget only (because FIOS seems to be using a different type of connection). Sorry for such a wordy inquiry. I hope you would be able to clarify something for me. Thanks in advance!

Frontier was owned by Verizon but sold off that part network they are on West coast Florida and I think Texas.

    Yes, good overview of ONT. Question: does the WAN connection on the ONT use a standard ethernet cable to the router, or, does it need a special cable that swaps some wires??? I recall that old time routers needed a twist of wires in the WAN cable compared with standard wi-fi output to computer wi-fi input. Thanks for help to clarify this

    Trying to figure out the phone line part of it...Does anyone know if all of those "punch down" lever connections are active? All of the red and green levers are connected to line 1 jack on the ONT. If you run wires to each of the 4 line 1 punch downs, shouldn't that make all of them active? I opened my ONT box and there was already 1 pair of blue/blue with white stripe going to the first green/red lever, however I cannot figure out where in the house that wire goes. So I ran a brand new cat 6 cable from the 2nd green/red lever punch down thing to a new phone jack. Solid blue to red terminal screw, blue with white stripe to green terminal screw. When I pick up the phone connected to that jack I get a beep. Not like any telco tone I've ever heard before. I am just trying to figure out how to get a single phone jack connected to this in 2022 without have to pay $325 for a verizon tech to come out and install one to get my phone activated.

    My current Fios CAT6 runs into my basement were it's just terminates as a RJ45 tip that I plug into the router. I want to have hardwired Ethernet access on the first floor. Is it as simple as unplugging the current CAT6 that's going into the basement and running a new outdoor-rated cable to the part of the house where I want it, drill a hole to get the cable into the house and attach the end of the CAT6 to a Ethernet port wall plate? Naturally I'd caulk the hole. Am I missing anything?

      Cat6 and cat7 will both work for gigabit speed. Cat7 has a higher theoretical maximum speed but both will work for gigabit service. You might want to use cat7 if it's a longer run from the ont to where your router is going to be. The price difference is negligible so it won't hurt to use cat 7 if you can get it. One other note if you're ont is outside make sure you get a cable rated for outdoor use...

      The easiest way to reboot the ont is look for the battery backup unit or the power adapter and just unplug it. If you have the old school battery backup unit the one that has the alarm silence and the battery emergency use buttons on them you need to unplug the unit from the outlet and then open the battery backup unit and disconnect the battery for about 30 seconds and then reconnect the battery and plug the unit back into the wall. That will reboot the ont. You can also use the fios app to do it under support.
