oh the late Julia McGirt/Nixon! This must’ve been one of her last public appearances before her passing 🙏🏼 What I would give to hear her performances as Effie 😢
The love and respect and support that these ladies have for each others’ performances and interpretations of their shared role is so enlightening and so affirming, this is what black women have always done regardless of medium, but here it is on Broadway.
Being a theatre actor is so damn hard - you schlep from audition to audition with your giant talents and get rejected repeatedly, you struggle to make a living, but you do it FOR THIS. To sing these songs, to build these relationships. It's a beautiful thing and I am so impressed with the Actor's Fund for supporting their own in such a loving way.
I love this! Thanks you James and Seth I can’t imagine how hard it must be to do these every day! Find people and questions and clips and not to mention the technology. I love these so much to watch them evey day! Love Effie and dream girls!

Thank you so much for this! I have watched it several times over the past three months! Each time is like the first time. What a great way to commemorate the 40th anniversary of "Dreamgirls." Sadly, these ladies played the "Effie" role before my time. However, getting this background into the show's history has been a major highlight of my 2021. Thank you for paying tribute to my favorite musical when nobody else will. #Dreamgirls40

I always thought they had to dumb down vocally the Effie role because they knew no one would ever top Miss Holliday. Black people love passion and pain. Because of our history, we relate. White folk can only take so much. Then it just becomes loud and screamy. We call it passion.❤❤❤❤Love you Jennifer Holliday.
