Beans, Cornbread, Fried Taters, Corn on the Cob with Tomatoes & Cucumbers on the side is HEAVEN! Just like my Mama & Maw Maw used to make! That is a true SOUTHERN SUNDAY SUPPER!
In this world, with so many broken up families and parents who work too much for sit down meals with their kids... and if they do its take out... it's just nice to see a normal family enjoy good food and each other like you all do.
For me, it takes planning and commitment. That experience of the meal and what is given to the family creates the soul of the family. I work a LOT but I take time to make a real meal at least once a week, twice if I can. If I do it more often, I am broken down with the load. But that one meal brings us all together. Now that my children are older, I tell them: Come over. I'm cooking. ❤
I am from Louisiana and growing up we had Family Sunday Supper at my granny's house every week. Everyone was invited. We would see family, friends, neighbors, and sometimes even strangers would stop by to see what the hype was about! She never turned anyone away. She would cook so many different dishes and each family would bring something to put on the table. It was how we stayed close as a family unit. She even had a party once per month for everyone who had a birthday that month, and we celebrated every holiday together too. To this day, I still do Sunday Supper, even though she has since passed on.
We didn't necessarily do an extended family dinner weekly, but we all did do things weekly in smaller units and we did the Monthly pot luck birthday dinner as well with all the cousins, aunts and uncles, etc.
@@katie7748 Oh don't. My daughter has decided not to have children, as the world is the way it is. I can't say I blame her, really, but I would dearly love to have grandchildren. Do y'all have a Walmart where you live, if so check out a container of bacon grease called 'Bacon up', it's on the shelf. Don't you put onions in your beans to cook? If you keep the head on the onion and just cut it all up so when you're done just cut the head off and it all falls apart like you cut it, makes it easier. I'm 72 from La & have lots of tips to share & no one to pass them on to so I'll share with you, hope you don't mind. 😊👩🦳❤
@tenthousanddaysofgratitude yes I would love to learn all you have to share ! I'm not a new cook but I just started about 3 years ago cooking a home made meal every night for my parents and I need help
I made a big Sunday dinner this past week, it's been so hot and we've been so busy that I just haven't felt like it. I miss having them so I did Meatloaf, Mashed Tators, Fresh corn on the cob, homemade bread, slice veggies from our garden, roasted Brussel Sprouts,
Hi Brooke I cook vicariously through you, I look forward to your videos as I suffer with severe pain constantly. Please keep up the excellent work for those of us who so appreciate all you do. God bless you and your beautiful family ❤
You are such a breath of fresh air. Makes my heart so happy that you are continuing the Southern traditions that my mother raised me with and that was 40 to 50 years ago. She would always have cucumbers and tomatoes sliced for every meal, well, breakfast and supper. Didn't really do lunch that I remember. Beans, cornbread and fried potatoes with chow chow on the side, oh, my Lord ! Best eating ever !
I'm E TN girl too, and there was ALWAYS beans on the stove. BUT, I was taught that you never salt them until they're cooked tender because it will make the shell hard and they won't get soft.
Yay Sunday supper!! One of my favorite videos you put out. My grandma cooked for her big family every Sunday as I was growing up. I never fully appreciated how much work she put into pleasing her family and wanting us all together. Thanks for bringing up good memories.
I love these videos!! It takes me back to those sweet Sundays at my precious Mama’s house!! She’s been gone 20 yrs and I still miss her so bad!!! Love to you sweet Brooke and your whole clan❤❤
Brooke I love watching your channel, especially the Sunday suppers!! You've inspired me, for the last month or so I've been making some kind of a roast dinner with a bunch of sides and I use it for the rest of the week in tacos or lunches or a casserole.. And I do always make a dessert, that's the rules lol. Yesterday was a big ol split turkey breast on top of potatos, carrots, onion and celery, with homemade dinner rolls and chocolate chip brownies! Now I have turkey salad sliders for lunch and we'll have pot pie this week too! It's like: Sunday Supper, the ORIGINAL meal prep!
I slice my potatoes when I make au gratin and scalloped potatoes. I also do sliced potatoes when I fry them in Crisco. I like the texture of a sliced potato.
Yesterday! Sunday I made 2 6 oz ribeye, 1 can potatoes soup (half a can of water to wash out can.) two whole potatoes to bake. Turn on high cook for four hours. Yum!
We have started a Family Fun Day Sunday on the last Sunday of the month for our whole family and friends. It is so much fun! And my momma and aunts always said we had to "look" the beans to check for bad beans or rocks...so i always say i gotta look the beans! 😂
Love great northern beans! We always made ours with a couple nice hammocks!! My grandma used to make a similar pie, but she used orange jello and mandarin oranges!
