Thank you for sharing this. In the past, I was a bit hesitant to use Tana because I'm currently using Obsidian and Logseq (and thought it already too much). However, after watching your explanation of some of Tana's features, I think I will give it a try :) Additionally, using VS CODE to make Obsidian and Logseq work well together is really beneficial. My philosophy for tools is that the majority of them should be those quite simple and widely adaptable. I mean, they should be sort of 'classical, i.e. I can fully understand, take a good command of, and they themself should be easily accessible, namely like a 'protocol, independently from certain brand or under the control of certain entities. So these tool are universally accessible, always useful, and the point is for me I can also well manage them because of these characters. These tools are like screwdrivers, knives, pen and papers, chopsticks..etc. In PC software, the comparable ones maybe those who have become almost like standards or protocols, e.g. markdown..etc. For those who have potential to become like that, being open source may count much. I think we should be careful not stretch ourselves too thin in those 'complex tools, --they are powerful, yet limited in use cases, short in adaptability, operating to us like black box. Unless in special tasks when they can't be replaced, we shall always use more 'common yet 'concise tools instead.
Quick capture is also why I really love Tana, it is much slicker than Obsidian, and I am always itching to pull out my laptop when I want to add notes. But Tana's word processing is so ugly ;__; and I have great annoyance with needing the internet to access all my notes. Thanks for this video and helping me to feel not so crazy in combining tools!
I'm an Obsidian user who is currently learning to use Tana and Supertags to organise a lot of disparate 'shards' of content. I am intrigued as to why you find it necessary to go through the Logseq phase when Tana is an outliner that is very good for moving chunks around and getting the structure right. Then I would go straight to Obsidian for a really good editing interface with word count visible on the pane and everything. I appreciate that a possible perceived weakness in Tana is lack of Markdown, but at outline stage that can be more of a hindrance than a help - in my not-very-humble opinion!
I hear the point, but I think it's a matter of personal preference really. I like the way that I can move information around in Logseq. I also find it easier to retrieve information and remix things.
The struggle I have is all three tools have good and not-so-good points. The ideal tool would be all three merged together. Due to the nature of my work and life moving from one tool to another becomes painful and I'm at serious risk of getting myself into a muddle. However I think I may try using Logseq and Obsidian I like the idea of creating a clean version of my Logseq notes. Good causes especially men's suicide prevention something I am presently funded to research. It would be an interesting thing to get your thoughts on these tools in relation to therapeutic journaling for my research this year
I think Obsidian is probably the closest to being able to solve for a multitude of workflows, given the plugin environment. But yes, I also wish that everything was available in one. I can highly recommend separating action vs reference items, though. I think journalling is very important. If you're looking for highly structured journalling, I would recommend Tana. Customising a supertag makes it very easy to prompt specific thoughts.
I am not using tana yet as i am still on the waitlist for the longest of time for many months.. However looking at the video, I was wondering why you can't do the outlining in Tana and forgo the Logseq altogether.
Great video as usual. The back and forth between apps I understand. I am on some kind of wait list for Tana so I could try Freeplane or RightNote. But I don't understand the Tana voice recording step(s). That seems to be added friction in the process unless that is the way your mind works best. Is there any other reason that might be applicable to someone like me too?

Fair point - but if the black box works and simplifies your life, I'm not too opposed to it

Logseq allows more flexibility than Tana. Having the files accessible in Markdown is also a major win.

It's simply a great transcription service, much better than using something like Otter.ai. So yes, definitely added friction, but worth it for me 👍🏼
