I own and use the Olympus 17mm f/2.8 and the Panasonic 20mm f/1.7.
I primarily use the 17mm as a backup to my 20mm because I prefer the image quality, focal length, and maximum aperture of the 20mm.

Thank you for revisiting this lens which is under rated . It’s an ideal starter lens for the amateur . A true representative of what size a MFT lens should be. Perfectly suited to my Oly EPL8 as an every day carry camera.

Glad you liked the video. I'm thinking about doing some videos on under rated m4/3s equipment.

Weather sealing with Oly started with the EM5 not the EM1

Yes you are correct I'd forgotten about the EM5. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.

I use this lens a lot.
It gives very natural looking images, so that I tend to pick it and use more than other sharper alternatives that I also have.

Yes it renders images very nicely.

Mine pretty much stays on my E-P5. It is a great little lens for street photography or just when you are out and about and want a pocketable camera.

The other alternative is the Olympus 17 mm f/1.8, which is a very nice lens, not as tiny as this lens, but still compact.

Yes that is a good alternative. OM Systems announced that were going to release some more primes recently, hinting that some of the older models would be upgraded so it would be nice to see a new version with some weather sealing and better optical performance.

The lens has been discontinued and the only way to purchase one is second hand. Try looking on EBay.

I wanted a black one and every now and then think about selling my silver one to buy it black. It is a great little fun lens.

Does anyone know how this compares to a Panasonic 14mm 2.5 when used on an Olympus body? I didn't know about this lens when I got my Pen camera a couple of years ago.

I’m sorry I don’t have any experience with that lens.

The 17mm is pretty good. But the 14mm is considerably better. Both extremely small and light lenses.

In my experience the Oly 17 is soft compared to the Panny-Leica 15. I would prefer the angle of the 17, but the lack of sharpness is very apparent.

I've not used the 15mm. When I got the 17mm f2.8 it was the only Olympus prime for m4/3 and the Pana-Leica hadn't been developed. Later on I wanted to buy the 15mm but it was seldom in stock here in Australia and I ended up with the Sigma 16mm f1.4 which is a phenomenally sharp lens. It's only downside is its size. Thanks for watching the video.

Some people like this lens better then the f1.8 version they say it renders images better. Not sharper but looks better. I think its the lens profile.

I really like the rendering of the f2.8 I've taken a lot of my favourite photos with it.
