Great video man. I grew up in Mayfields time and I loved guitar. Back then I was dancing to the music and not listening to the guitar unless it was really in my face. As a result I didn't have the respect I should have had for the R&B guitar players. When I started learning how to play guitar I listened and learned that those R&B guitar players were really throwing down and weren't just loud and in your face.

I’m not sure I’ve been more mesmerized by a video. The story… the beautiful lyrics and musicianship. And your rendition…. Superb.

This is the only guy that made playing the guitar look so easy as if he was only strumming downward. Your analysis of his body of work is dead on and I can really see that you appreciate His contributions to music

Lovely homage to the great man who I was lucky enough to see live in London in 1988. Well done sir !

Wow. I learned a lot about Mr.Mayfield in this video. I knew he was a big influence on Hendrix's rhythm styling and was a legend, but I have never heard this song, or knew what happened to him. And HOW did you learn this song in his tuning? Amazing man. What a beauty.

I had to have another guitar in standard tuning to reference for the guitar I had in the Mayfield tuning.

Two things I gotta do: Dig deeper into Curtis Mayfield. Never a disappointment there, I just need to do it.
And get a mellotron pedal. I love that sound.

You, Sir, did an absolutely Impressionable version of that Beautiful song; it brought back many memories for me, as I heard of Curtis., yet never listened to his music; yet, as I do understand, Jimi Hendrix himself, was very much influenced by this Great Artist and now I know why; thank you again...

A VOICE OF A TIME GONE BY.......I WAS BORN IN 80' BUT THIS WAS PLAYNG IN MY HOUSE, AS MUCH AS ANYTHING, WITH THE LIKES OF MARVIN GAYE, AL GREEN, YOU GET THE IDEA...OF THE GREATS I JUST MENTIONED, HES THE MOST UNDERATTED, AND PROBABLY THE MOST TALENTED. WROTE MUSIC THAT MAKES EVEN MORE SENSE TODAY THEN IT DID IN THE 60S AND 70S....THIS JUST RESONATES WITH ME, AND YOU COULD HEAR IT IN MY MUSIC......JUST BEAUTIFUL....JUST REALIZED I HAVE A SONG I JUST WROTE CALLED THE ESSENCE OF YOU, THAT IS IN THE VAIN OF THIS SONG, NOT NEARLY AS BEAUTIFUL...AND IT WAS DONE UNCONCIOUSLY, PROBABLY, INTHE BACK OF MY MIND FROM WHEN I WAS A KID...BC I DONT EVEN REMEMBE HEARING THIS SONG...BUT I STILL HAVE THE ALBUM AND IT WAS A STAPLE IN MY HOUSE GROWING UP.....THE BEST, BUT VERY TRAGIC WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM...EVEN SO, HE LEFT SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL FOR ALL OF US, HIS MUSIC...WHICH I KNOW IS APART OF THE SOUNDTRACK TO MY MY LIFE FOR SURE...AMAZING! GOOD JOB FRAN!

Appreciate this. Do you think it's possible to play "Think" in Open F#? I can't find an instance of it and am wondering if it was played in standard, potentially by one of the session guitarists. Thank you. (Posting this lesson on Soul R&B Lessons on FB).

I don’t know how you managed to explain the song in a way that made more sense to me, but you did. Because to me, this song is like algebra… or calculus… and I was an English Lit major, so it almost broke my brain. 😆

I loved the Chambers Brothers and Curtis in the Super Fly album- but afterwards the beauty of People Get Ready style he created got lost and I lost interest in him - until his tragic fall and subsequent death….
I loved that early stuff - so unique..
