  • Ocean Ramsey believes she can tell the anti-Jaws story: small blond girl in a bikini, big shark - but somehow, in this situation, everyone ends up just fine. Even enlightened. As a shark researcher, she and Juan Oliphant have been working on the North Shore to redefine the world's perceptions of sharks. It's working.
    Take Ocean Ramsey's ultimate shark course to learn more about shark behavior and how to minimize the chances of an adverse encounter: bit.ly/ytoceanr...

    Ocean Ramsey is ridiculously brave. I remember watching Jaques Cousteau as a child, he and his crew from the Calypso swam with sharks, but were much more careful and cautious than Miss Ramsey. I just can't imagine grabbing a great white's colossal dorsal fin and riding it like a living conveyer belt. Ramsey's footage is amazing and mind boggling.

    As a biological oceanographer, I can respect the message these folks are trying to convey. We need to protect the world shark populations. However, I doubt that a quarter of a million sharks are killed EACH DAY and I also agree that this message needs to be carefully qualified. NEVER approach a large shark in the water. Their behavior is totally unpredictable and while they are quite likely to flee, if they decide to do you harm, they have the necessary equipment!

    Dear Ocean Ramsey and Juan Oliphant for the wonderful and nice video that I fully enjoyed.
    I'm a 63 year old man from Sweden that really scared of Great White Shark, so to the grade that can't see a movies like "Open Water" without the feeling that watch a horror movie.
    The thing is that we don't have any dangerous sharks around the Swedish coast, but just taking a swim in open Swedish waters scares me. This feeling has creeping up on me the last 30 years or so, but before that I had no issues to swim or dive, even in shark infested waters as I did many times while traveling abroad. Does this mean that I hate the Great White Shark? Not at all, I admire that beautiful and graceful animal as I think have the right to live as anyone else on this planet. So the only way to to fight this "Great White Shark phobia" is to face it by watching RUclips videos and learn more about the Great White Shark.
    If I got the opportunity to see the Great White Shark in it's rightful environment, I for sure would gratefully appreciate that as one of my life experience. But as it is nowadays I can't afford to travel anymore as I once did do to my limited pension.
    I wish you Ocean Ramsey and Juan Oliphant all the best and good luck with your wonderful job in the preservation of the sharks.

    Sharks don't know what we are they don't want to eat us they are simply trying to find out if we taste good or bad. Many times people are uneducated about sharks which also causes them to be a point of interest in the first place. Also its situational in many of the videos this girl is in a cool setting not splashing and screaming or bleeding. These will cause sharks to go crazy and attack you. Also sharks are animals and like any animal they have rules we just need to learn and follow them and killing them off won't be a good idea it would not only affect the sharks but the ocean as a whole. I'm for sharks but that does not change the fact that they scare the shit out of me. They're just animals not the next Jaws just a creature trying to survive.

      I Agree!!!
      Sure it is true that sharks are naturally predators, however it is untrue that they do not perceive feelings and emotions like we do. The only real reason why we're not like sharks is because we have grown in a world full of others like us, in turn, making the planet safer and more neutral for most humans.... While on the other hand sharks have to fight every day for survival, and every creature on this planet is rigged with an instinct that would make them do almost anything for survival. This includes humans... and being at this time in history it is important that every single human on this planet realizes that fact, for at this moment we threaten every single life form that inhabits the planet we share and call home. Earth.

When you do something like this you are putting your life in the hands of a predator. Great whites are pretty much the perfect killing machine and I'm not saying that as a bad thing I think it's actually pretty damn cool. I have always had a fascination for sharks and most sea life but I would never take a chance with my life by getting in the water unprotected or not in a cage and free swim with these sharks. She could do everything right and still get killed. This kind of reminds me of that guy who loved Bears so much and decided that he was going to live with them and then ended up in the belly of one. I can tell you another story...called the Wreck of the USS Indianapolis.Swimming or diving with any sharks is dangerous..they are not pets nor something to be played with.Always treat wild animals with respect and distance,they can and will kill you.She is a researcher and knows the boundary between what she can do and what she can't do.As a diver i have probably seen at least 40 species of sharks from Great Whites to the Dogfish Shark.We do need sharks to help keep the eco system clean but we should also just let them be as well.I don't agree with some actions she took here because it could lead to severe problems later on considering that most people would panic at the site of a Great White.The Great White,Bull,Tiger and Oceanic Sharks can be very aggressive when they are feeding or hunting food....they can also attack without warning if that shark is a pregnant female about to give birth.Though they showed her swimming outside a cage ...they had one real close"Just in Case".

Both practises can walk aside and none is more important than other.

    • @madman2u
      @madman2u 6 лет назад +5

      The ocean is plenty and roughly 100 million sharks are indeed killed annually by humans. Since we're basically hunting them more often than they can keep up with our demand(i.e. procreating), we're hunting many shark species into extinction. If sharks disappeared from our oceans, we'd seriously alter the food chain in the ocean. We may see an increase in certain species, which means that the species this animal rely on for food will eventually disappear too and then this species die and so on it goes. This is already happening naturally though but it's much slower.
      There is a balance to be maintained. Of course, all kinds of animal species die out every day without people even taking notice, but at least it would be the natural course rather than us humans being the sole reason.

      death the kid But what she is saying is that they won't eat you and trying to prove that by swimming next to them and touching them. Bad idea. Wait until that shark is hungry and then we'll talk. It's no secrete that sharks attack humans but it's generally for food or territorial. People were saying the same with Steve Irwin and look what happened. He got stabbed by a sting ray because it felt threatened. Face it, we will never be able to control these wild animals just like they will never be able to control us. I'll swim in the ocean knowing that if a shark is hungry there is a chance I'm dinner.

    273,973 sharks killed each day ! (Seems very accurate ) but my main point is 273,973 sharks per day x 365 days in a year comes to a total per year of 100,000,145 if this has been happening for 10 years then why are sharks not extinct already . Also going on those numbers 11,415 are killed every HOUR of every day . Now bearing in mind they do like blaming shark finning which seems more of a eastern thing then out of the world population probably half might even think about eating shark fin soup and only a tiny percentage of them actually doing the catching and finning 11415 sharks per hour seems a lot to kill every hour

      Being a vegan is not the cure can you imagine the land and water it would take to grow vegetables for every one of the 7 billion people on the planet we would have to wipe out every natural habitat on land . If ya want a cure look at population control .

    • @deepseaknight416
      @deepseaknight416 7 лет назад +6

      actually we use less space growing plants than we do animals the main reason being u need to feed animals plants that uses up more space than just using that space to make plants for the humans to eat. example you use up more space, water feeding something like a cow plus the cows food needs watering and land for the crops to grow as opposed to eating what they eat cutting out the middle man/ animal. but yeah you are right, population control is also important nothing alone is a cure but individually is a cure but little things u can do can help the animals and the environment. Hope this helps clarify a few things. I love the sea and sharks especially although i don't think untrained people should randomly start swimming with shark (or even her cuz imagine the rep sharks will get if they bite her out of curiosity) i do enjoy that it makes conservation awareness. cheers

      israel segura and what about places like the countries in the artic circle or the massive amounts of land that can't be farmed because the soil is not productive or what about the natural habitats that get wiped out to make enough room to to grow all this stuff bearing in mind only a small percentage is organic and a lot of pesticides are used which are killing off more animals or what about the fact the only reason half the people can choose to be vegan is by using fossil fuels to transport fruit and veg around the world but it's fine to use them dead animals to get there food cause that suits a vegan mentality or what about the fact that the reason half of people are still alive today thanks to animals used in medicine or the fact that rape seed oil is causing massive deforestation because people are more worried about there weight than what it does to the environment ... if your a vegan try looking into the things from history that would not have happened if it hadn't been for killing and using animals

      426 09 and how much land space does it take to grow those vegetables and how many animals get killed making that space to grow them but it's easy to ignore that so ya can seem all high and mighty because ya won't eat an animal like I just replied look at the forests being cut down because of rape seed oil and what about people who live in deserts who don't have fertile should we just let them starve because they can't grow enough food

    • @deepseaknight416
      @deepseaknight416 7 лет назад +1

      Ok to answer each of your points lets start of with the arctic circle. If u cant farm vegatables to eat then because of the temperatures or soil qualities then u cant farm the food for the cows, chickens, pigs etc. So u have to ship food there either way, except u are using more resources by not taking to account the all the food ( the water and space that planting corn takes up)and land that the animal uses plus the transportation of its food and itself to where to the location where it gets sold it goes through one more step. That covers transportation now for the part about the pesticide u do realize they put pesticides on the food that they give to the animals right u are inderectly eating it this way, this plus the high amounts of nitrogen fertilizer that is used in animal feed gets washed into the sea, also wild fish are being overfished to feed chickens or used as fertilizer for animal feed. Its just not efficient. You say look to history and i see we have made many mistakes that humans have made because we aren't perfect such as slavery or war( not that im compairing slaves to animals just an example) just because we have been doing something doesn't make it right. Im not vegan because i feel bad for pigs or whatever but because its not a substantial method. Something as simple as not eating fish can help shark numbers go up. Hope this helps
