Ok so I haven't read the fanfic this is apparently based off of and I just might after I finish this comment but without context or anything the character's mermaid(or merman here I guess) tail and wings kinda remind me of legend of Icarus! After Icarus (Keith) falls into the ocean, after his wings have melted of course, rather than dying he finds this merman (Lance) and falls in love. Perhaps learning the lesson of hubris from his lover later on.
It really doesn't fit their character traits in Voltron of course, and I'm sure it's not at all how it plays in the fic, but I really think just the aesthetic of the piece fits the narrative I created pretty well?? I'm not really sure,, besides the point but I love the art here as well! Kudos to the artist for the astonishing piece : )
