  • Some of the footage in this video is honestly hard for me to watch. Huge thanks to Shara for helping me declutter the parts of our home which have literally been giving me anxiety for years!!! I have never felt lighter, more motivated, and happier to live in a home with LESS things!! After we filmed this, I made so much progress on other areas in our home and sold the majority of my remaining clothes on Instagram (thank you to all who purchased, we raised some money for charity and it felt awesome). Good luck to everyone who is struggling with this - you can absolutely do it and live a better life with more clarity.

    This is how I was living life for YEARS - pushing clutter and accumulated things around our house. This was such a burden and source of anxiety I literally thought about it every day. It was easy for me to let go of things once I got started and I am so relived this is no longer my life. Would you like to see more videos on home organization and cleaning? A video on free and affordable home decorating? Leave any requests below! Thank you for watching. ❤️

    wow i'm at my mum's house watching decluttering videos and nearly having a panic attack at the thought of how much stuff she has. i want to help her, i think she is an actual hoarder, she can't let anything go, and takes things i throw away out of the bin, even if they are mine or clearly broken. it's hard to walk through the house with the amount of items piled on the floor and surfaces. it's so overwhelming and makes me physically ill. she even broke her shoulder tripping over a pile of coathangers.... i don't know what to do...

      Same story here with me. Watching this video was really inspirational for me but because I believe my mom is a bit of a hoarder and my opinions don't matter to her at all I can't really do anything about the tremendous amount of stuff we have. I have tried several times but I won't force it and just wait till I'm able to have a space of my own.

      You sound like me legit ive written a comment like this on decluttering videos. I know how hard it is ive actually asked her while shes digging around in the bin if shes a fucking trash panda now instead of just a pack rat. Her excuse is always her parents grew up in the great depression. But like she also had ten siblings and lived on farms her family owned whereas now shes one person with the accumulated crap of at least 40 years worth and rents and moves every few years either for work or lease ends whatever so shes like elderly now and she has more crap than a large family and most of it is useless or uneeded. Even if she doesnt use something or loe it she wants it. Its definitely a sort of anxiety too which lucky me she passed on anxiety to me and had passed on a lot of habits which since becoming 16years old have slowly taught myself to break and since becoming about 21 have really gone hard at actively decluttering the boxes and boxes of crap. Still at it and she still geta useless crap from op shops and is gullible so she believes she needs things she doesnt because the news or shops tell her and ive mostly let her specific personal stuff alone and focused on kitchen and other main area things and because shes like that she legit has saved everything from mine and my brothers childhoods including old toothbrushes with like the rugrats or a disney princess on just a couple years ago i finally convinced her to get rid of a 20+ year old potty. Ffs. So yeah i feel ya. Its hard. And its harder when you have to take responsibilty for your parents crap as well as sorting yourself out. Its exhausting. But its very rewarding. I take breaks for sanity and try to do it when shes not around or at the very least when shes asleep. If not i have to hide and have to throw things out without her realising. I often watch a lot of decluttering videos to keep my motivation going when i get overwhelmed exhausted and fed up with my mother.

    My mother is like that too. We literally give away bags of bags items but still everywhere is busting with unnecessary things. I told her to give away my plush toys that she put in a parcel and do you know what she said? She said I am gonna give them to my grandchildren. Like my children would play with those dirty antique plush toys.
    She kept all of my class books. I convinced her to throw my uni books with difficulty. She still keep broken electronics,pencil and pen that won't work etc. She thinks all of them could be used one day but most of them doesn't even touched in 10 years.

      I also have a mum that is just like this..has all my old school books, toys, clothes. She has struggled with hoarding for as long as I can remember, especially newspapers too. I have tried to help so often but can't seem to budge anything. My mum Is a Taurus Sun sign with a Taurus moon rising and after looking into this recently have found people born under this can be very stubborn and can end up hoarding! This blew my mind and I shown my mum recently and she started crying as it made so much sense to her. It's as though it's just in her nature to be like this and it hit home to her why she is like she is. She doesn't want to be like this, but it's as though she can't help it...x

    Wow thank you so much for this. I am literally anxiety ridden because of this issue and having no idea how or where to begin so I have been taking boxes of clothes and other things and just giving them to Goodwill. After separating recycling, donating and what you want to keep, then what are the categories you use to begin separating the items you would like to keep? I hope this question makes sense, lol. Also do you know of anyone in the Seattle area that offers this service? You are a incredible human, thank you for sharing and caring!✨💗✨

    • @itsblitzzz
      @itsblitzzz  5 лет назад +3

      I would sort the items you want to keep into categories while you are cleaning/decluttering, and then go through them again after the initial sweep. The types of categories will vary based on the items you have personally, but some of mine were "clothing" "travel" "gardening" "miscellaneous decor" "paperwork & important documents" "receipts" "holiday items" "toiletries & hygiene" etc. You can really make a category for anything if you have multiple items that correspond to it! I don't know of any home organizing services in Seattle but I'm SURE there are some. I would do a google search. Hope this helps and good luck. You can do it! 🙌🏻

    Tips:
    1. Just get started
    2. Sort items into categories and go through the categories as a whole
    3. Get rid of items responsibly (donate, recycle, etc.)
    4. Don't be afraid to ask for help (from a professional or even just a friend)
    5. Wait to get new furniture/decor until you have fully decluttered the space
    6. Less is more!

    So... NICE to watch! Hard to find another word really! I bought my first home this year and during that I truly sorted a lot of stuff out. Gave away things, tossed things, stored away things. One thing that I really have found to be a game changer is to have a space in a closet or something for all the clothes I always put on "the chair" haha. That way, even the mess has a place to live. Made a huge difference in my studio flat, where I really don't have anywhere to "hide" those things otherwise :)

    • @itsblitzzz
      @itsblitzzz  4 года назад

      Awesome tip! I can totally relate to "the chair" except for me it is the top of our dresser where I lay things. The solution for me has been to make a point of putting clothes away each day (whether back in the closet or in our dirty clothes basket) so they don't accumulate. Easier said than done, but it has become a habit and I usually do a pretty good job with it. Keep up the good work!

    this vid is such perfect timing for me!!! i’m a high school senior getting ready for college soon and even though i’m staying home for community college my first 2 years, i know that i will be leaving at some point in the near future - so i’ve been going through all my old stuff. i’ve made a lot progress but i still have so much more to go through.
    loved this video so much and i’m excited to see if you decide to make more decluttering videos in the future!!!

    I always got kinda stressed out when in cleaning or decluttering tv shows people just throw stuff away, or break things that could have been used by someone else. It was just for the “thrill” of throwing things and is just disrespectful for the environment. So happy that you talked about how important it is to be responsible when throwing things away/donating!

    I need this not for myself but for my dad who is a BIG hoarder. He still has things from 10 years ago to when he was still a college student.
    We're currently moving houses now and my mom and I are seeing this as an opportunity to easily let go some of things!!
    I just hope everything will go well haha! But for some things, we put them on for rent at www.mygaragerentals.com It's our go-to place because it's free to rent and has no listing capacity.
    Will send this to my mom! Cant wait to start the purge.
    If this year has taught us anything, it is that the future is uncertain.

    Hi Julia, Very nice video and very informative. I too am trying very hard to downsize so I can sell my home and move some place where there is not so much work to be done to the house. The only question I have is you said you bought the little, I think, Bamboo cabinet over your toilet bowl. I love that cabinet. Was there any brand name on it when you bought it. I just love bamboo and would love to create a Polynesian room and something like that would be awesome. Again, great video with a lot openness and truth. Thank you for posting. If you have any videos that would be helpful for homes and life, that would be great. Be Safe, Healthy, and Well.

I am not bringing furniture but its all my personal things and clothes. I dont need 15 winter coats with accessories or tons of jeans just lost. I know when I move i want 2nd hand furniture and kitchen stuff. Thrift stores full of glassware Americans i literally would die of guilt to purchase new.

    I just wanted to say that this was a very helpful video and also that it was really nice to hear you say "ours, we, Nick and I" alot of women that do these types of videos just say mine or I and just completely ignore that they have a partner. It makes it seem like the other person has no say in their home. It was nice to hear you continually refer to Nick.

    This is my first video of yours that I’m watching & I love this.
    I spent all summer getting rid of junk when moved into my new apartment. My apartment is so much more open and free. It feels very good being able to not live the way I grew up.
    One thing I did struggle with was trying to figure out how to get rid of stuff correctly instead of listening to the people who told me “just donate it.”
    Thank you so much!
