Phenomenal idea about bilingual subtitles! I wish I could afford your resources!
I've got an entire library of foreign film content I would translate to Spanish/ English in domestic violence if I ever win the Powerball 🎉
Alas social workers don't have that kind of cash and SAMHSA hasn't ever been interested in taking a grant proposal for the batterers instead of targets.
Keep it up. Great cross cultural competence the public rarely sees from attorneys.. mostly because most legal actions any US citizen might be a party to don't involve international relations.
Note after watching.. I think I learned a great deal about the elements that are legally relevant as you asked questions about your guests understanding of what was said and how he interpreted it in a cultural context. For example regarding the question about JS' apology, his need for a translator, and did the translator help him understand the lack of sincerely in the apology.
His response was that he didn't understand a word he said but he didn't believe he was sincere because of the translator as well as culturally embedded ques that weren't present (ex. lack of sincerity in the bow).
Mutual assault I am imagining (by extension of the law regarding interference in business or lying about an STD) that as you indicated there "is no self defense in Korea, only differences in the level of mutual assault."
My guess is that the punch was not nearly so grievous as the behavior that provoked it AND that while illegal would be completely understandable from the point of view of a South Korean court.
    Good stuff!

Are you aware that online translation software using artificial intelligence (AI) allows you to upload a video file? It can translate the audio into subtitles, dub the video with an AI-created voice, or both. The AI voices are no longer robotic-sounding; with good software, it's eerie how real they sound. These apps and software do most of the work. You should check it out if you were unaware of it, unless you prefer human translation.

What a great interview!! You asked really interesting questions and you are so down to earth and honest. And I love how candid you both were, it made the interview more human. And wow, you flew to Korea for this interview and that's a testament to your craft. Thank you so much for it all. ❤

Thank you for interviewing Yu Dalgeun , Thank you Yu Dalgeun for knocking Somali on his ass! I’m American, Half Korean, my Mom is Korean. My dad retired from the US Army. I wish I learned to speak Korean but have not :(
Id say this was more of a podcast as opposed to an interview as we got to learn more about you as well which was also pretty cool. This was awesome to learn about both of you and watch/listen to 🙏🏼 Yu Dalgeun I salute you 🫡 You did what possibly thousands of Americans would want to do to him or worse! 🤙

What an interesting interview! Thank you to both of you for making this happen, as well as the translators behind the scenes.
When I first saw the clip, it was a very strong dichotomy to see Mr. Yu's composure in the moment and Salami's false posturing. All talk until someone actually steps up to challenge him... Consequences of his own actions.

I live in Japan, but only got to know Ramsey Ismael after he went to Korea.
I admire the Korean people and Mr. Yu Dalgeun!
I have been to Korea many times and they have always been the most warm and helpful people I’ve met. When I was with family speaking Portuguese (I’m Brazilian) or even when I was with friends speaking Japanese. There was not a single time I wasn’t treated with kindness in Korea.

I absolutely love the segues in to his background and how it connects to the patriotism and hence the intention/reason why one might feel pissed at Johnny (Ramsey Khalid Ismael)'s actions (and rightfully so). The whole thing was a Fuc Around and Find Out waiting to happen. Awesome interview!
