Thanks for watching! 😃
I'll probably never need to know all these details you give, but I love to watch your channel anyway. I find it fascinating how site built homes are put together and all the ways you solve problems you come across. I can't help but think how much easier it would be to just all have houses like you showed us they have in Iceland, though. 😅
I just received a shock when I saw that your subscriber count is now standing at 362K. It is so well deserved. Thanks for sharing. 👍🏼
Thank you. Couldn’t be here without you! You keep watching and I will keep making videos! 😁😁
Another fantastic job. Trust me. Get yourself a palm nailer! They are great for nailing in tight spaces. I installed a bunch of joist hangers on a job once and couldn’t pick up a hammer for two weeks. Wrecked a tendon in my wrist.
I just want to say how incredibly helpful I have found your videos. I have an old 1930's brick built house in the UK that is not straight or square, that we are renovating slowly room by room, Your videos have given us so much confidence to tackle everything. We love the way you "split the difference" when things are not square and that is just what we needed to know when we were tackling our very wonky walls.
Thank you so much for all the entertainment and encouragement to get in there and have a go 😀
That is so cool to hear! Happy to help! If even just the motivation to go for it!! Thanks for the comment and for watching!!
Question about UK construction for you: Why do drywall installers coat the entire sheet in mud rather than just the seams and nail holes? It seems so excessive.
@@Heymrk I have no idea to be honest. I think plasterboard is quite a "recent" (past 20 or 30 years?) thing over here. I have always lived in houses with brick construction with brick or block interior walls that are plastered with a bonding coat then skim finished. My ceilings are plaster and lath, no boards at all, but my house is a mid 1930's construction.
These videos are always interesting and I love seeing how he solves multiple problems
I am very thankful for ur time and effort to give us a weekly update.. I am sure it is not easy. I appreciate it alot!!!!
That is great to hear. It is a lot of work but I love it. Thanks for always watching!
It is a pleasure to see how you manage to do everything by yourself, without any help. Specially how you overcome the obstacles of remodeling an old house.
Currently sistering ceiling joists and rafters in a 1946 Queenslander that was attacked by termites. Thanks for making the videos. It must make the job so much harder.
I really enjoy your videos because of the following - you explain things in layman fashion. Your attention to detail, i.e. cleaning, sorting and discarding the mess, open to suggestions on how to do things - you are not married to thinking your way is the best, the sequential and chronological evolution of your personal house rebuild is so satisfying and complete, and your use of time lapse and real time is spot on. I find it medicinal and therapeutic. And you seem to enjoy doing it not only for yourself, but for your audience as well. Bravo.
Love this comment. Thank you, Scott!
That was another incredible enjoyable episode. These videos remind me of my dad and I was thinking about the fact that your son wont remember the house being transformed but he and any siblings will have this videos to watch. And that makes me happy for them.
Another good one from The Fixer!👍
Another great video, love watching you work your magic
I was looking through my grandfather's text books, and I saw that strange joint for the rafter ends, a 2x4 in a bird mouth supporting the rafter on the sill plate. The book was published in 1902 by Frederick J. Drake and Co. "Modern Carpentry, a Practical Manual" by Fred T. Hodgson.
Woah. That is pretty cool! I really thought it was just something they made up on the spot. Thanks for sharing!
I love how you are doing stuff RIGHT NOW as opposed to wrong later. :-) Really amazing job on your house so far!
Probably just me, but I would have connected the joists to the rafters with long RSS structural screws. Two of them each would have been more than enough. Another great job on this.
your videos are so relaxing. I love watching every single one! thank you for being a great person!
Great job all the time.
Thank you.
Did you see the little face in your piece of wood Matt hehe? It was around 6:20 time mark. Made me chuckle 🤭 another great vid Thankyou :D
I just found your channel and have been binge-watching your videos. I really like the detail that you put into your videos. Great job, thank you.
I always enjoy your videos!!! Love the REAL deal!!
Another nice video. Waiting for more. Thanks for inspiring me. 🇧🇷
Mr. The Fixer: Can you speak about your background in building? Where did you learn all that you know? Do you have another job besides RUclips? I learn so much from your videos - I wonder where you find the time to do everything!
I have to do some catching up been busy going thru a hurricane scary scary ,but the roof is still on the house poolcage is gone but know one was hurt thank goodness for mine generac no power for 2 to 3 weeks enjoyed the video great job
Sorry to hear that. Scary stuff. But happy to hear nobody was hurt.
I really enjoy your channel! Thank you!
Enjoy the videos thanks for sharing
Your channel is awesome! Just found you last week. Thank you for sharing.
Awesome to hear! Welcome and thank you for watching!
Lots of work again! Take care!
great job !!!!
My ceiling is so bad! Thanks for the "jack" tip. Gonna glue and screw sisters on both sides😊. I think where rot was cut out I should fill with replacement joist? Can I lay a ceiling on the joists as opposed to drywall under? For the cost and effort, kinda like the idea of putting new joists and bracing on display. Mold Out kills smells very well. Just in case someone out there finds an 80 year old mouse run.
Great video. Thanks
Anybody else see the face in the first 2x8 when Matt was talking about crowning? Just me? Lol 🤷♀️🤦♀️
Good job. One thing I might do is move the the outlet that is right behind the door? Unless that's planned for you next video lol.
great tips and tricks!
You know what you're doing, clearly, but just a note on nomenclature. The "cross bracing" is actually called bridging. Like solid blocking, its purpose is to prevent the joists from rolling over.
Well done again.
Keep it going man. :)
Golly I wish my joists looked like that before sistering. I got 2 drop ceilings, sisters on sisters, 2x4s holding the roof, sisters on sisters with that too. Smh
Nice work
i just enjoy watching your videos even if i dont know diddly squat about fixing houses or woodworking. but what was the point or reason to do this? for more ceiling support?
Haha great to hear. And yes for more ceiling support but more than that, to make it stronger for storage above the ceiling in the attic. Thanks for watching!
@@TheFixerHomeRepair ah ok i learn new things by watching your videos
I know this is going to be a good one.
I hope I don’t let you down! 😁😁
@@TheFixerHomeRepair Yeap it was a good one :D. Can't wait to see the room finished.
Question: Do you nail together sistered joist?
06:30 that board has its eyes on you.
I swear I see a face! Old Man with a beard. Wait .. is that Santa? 😂
Just got done telling some youtubers how 🔥 you are
Tfs❗️
2:50 that cross bracing is doing nothing but making insulating more difficult later... your strapping is performing the same function, plus you will be adding floor boards in the attic.
Curious as to why did you not put wood glue in between the joists?
I don't like that way of cross bracing. Seems like a hassle to insulate. Wouldn't a single board that is mounted flush with the top edge of the joists do the same job as you already have the bottom of the joists nailed with the strapping (or whatever they are called). This way you could slide the insulation in the bay for the whole way without interruptions.
Love your content.
What is the purpose of strapping vs attaching drywall to the joists?
There is a face in the lumber at 6:00 😊
😂 Right near my finger tips, good find!
Eye protection?
I have to say that your lucky there’s not lath and plaster!!! 😂😂😂😂
My wife calls it a tgj (total gut job) she hates it when I do this. Lol
Haha
It could be cool to let go off the inner roof and leave it upp to under the roof. Not energi efficient. But cool
Why not use screws instead of nails on the strapping?
❤❤❤
I'm a kid but I am a eight year old who told you that!
❤
Since I wield the power of the pause button...you WON'T be doing it "Right Now".😄
🙂✌️❤
🙈🙉🙊
You should be proud.
You single-handedly caused a world nail shortage.🙄
Where is the collar ties .... all these older houses no collar ties ....
i do wonder how you must've felt after spending literally all that time looking straight up and working above you, hope you stretched or something after lol
Feeling pretty good. Sometimes it can take a toll. I had lots of breaks moving the camera around so that probably helps.
My opinion is you didñt need to use those straps on those rafters.
Those are some "quality" 2x8s! Disappointing! Inflation is fun
In the old times (10 years ago), I would have sorted them out of the want/keep pile... crazy
first lmao
And no safety.. I'm out
Another Great video from Mr. Fixer. 👍🪜🔨
