    Good tip. I sometimes put the inlay dot in between the drill press stop when setting it even with the surface of the fret board. Pull the inlay out and drill to the perfect depth without measuring!

    You could easily store boards of the right thickness nearby too, very neat.

    Oh maybe something like this would be better for my tube idea, is to get a bit with scribing knives at the ends, maybe grind away the center, so I only scribe a circle in the wood, like a mm deep or so, then insert a brass or maybe bronze tube of that circle diameter. Kinda inspired here man!

    Can you use a Forstner?

      A forester bit would be the best choice, but I don't believe that they are made smaller than 1/4" .
