Currently in the middle of completing my Google IT Support certificate, and already landed a good job. Definitely looking forward to getting more certifications. Thanks for the video!
Nice work!
thats awesome! did you have any other background in IT?
What type of job is it?
@MzKizi Zeno Working tech support for a hospital. Mostly trouble shooting and upgrading of the hospitals hardware & software.
@@muhammadmoor-el8431 Did you have a prior degree ? What do you think helped you land the job since you don’t have the certificate already ?
Thanks for these vids, Nicole. You're helping people like me (noobs who feel overwhelmed with the tech industry) form a solid plan of attack for getting our careers off the ground. Keep up the good work👍
Thank you blackswan. I appreciate the comment
Being able to compromise is key in cyber security. Not everything can be done like what you read in a textbook. Certain controls will break your systems. But you still have to protect them. Finding alternate ways of doing things becomes your entire job.
ahahha they do!!
You've created the most informational and simple to understand video regarding this topic. Thank you so, so much!
You are so welcome!
Great video, you hit some key points that are relevant to me. I haven’t entered the cybersecurity workforce yet but will eventually. I completed my BSIS and about to complete my Masters in cybersecurity management and policies, I also live in the Atlanta region. I’m taking an educational sabbatical since I’ve retired from the military and plan to get my PhD or DIT before or between looking for a job. I’m originally from Ohio and have been offered positions over there for the DoD, but have not decided. You have an cheerfully personality and look forward to future videos and information.
Aww, thank you!!
My long time friend landed himself a career in this and is already making almost 100k within 2-3yrs. I am working hard wiring up houses for 3 times less pay, though I could make 60hr, it won't be as quickly earned. I'm motivated now to jump on this new and booming career. Currently watching an 8hr long cybersecurity course on YT. So far I'm enjoying it!
Yes!!! You can make a lot really quickly
Same here , which video are you watching?
@Joshua Howland which video are you watching? I'm doing same here
Same! I’m currently serving active duty and although I love being in the Army, I work long hours, do a lot of cross training, additional duties, and fulfilling multiple leadership roles while making pennies in comparison to this. I can honestly half of that in the Reserves, part time, while making this my full time career. I am so interested in this field and excited about my transition. Prepping for it now as I have one more year to fulfill my contract.
@@nicoleenesse I have an important question on this, I don't have the money to go get a 4 year degree or the time for that really and I'm struggling to find decent 2 year associate degree programs. Where can I go, what can I do to try and get into this. I have some prior experience in networking and telecommunications, and got a comptia A+ cert so I have basic knowledge but what avenue should I take to begin learning this and start within decent time frame even if that is 2 years? I would greatly appreciate any advice.
I am from the Houston area and currently enrolled in a computer science- cyber security degree program from Liberty university and I learned a lot from your video and I’m definitely excited to learn more in this new field. I have a knack for IT and I want to learn all I can from future internships and other companies to network here.
That is amazing. I am glad!!!
I'm in the Dallas area and agree that Dallas organizations offer good compensation for SOC analysts. Dallas has a reasonable cost of living, too.
Yeap
Shhhhh! You’re too loud😐
Great video. Have A+, N+, and sec+. Been in the industry for 8 months. Was planning getting into more of a blue team role. But decided to go for more of a risk management role instead (end game is CISSP). This video helped. Here in Cali, help desk role is $24 (my current rate) I noticed some SOC positions getting less. So, thank you for stating that SOME analysis positions are entry level.
Aye bruh I jus passed my Sec+ and I’m tryna get my foot in the door, I’ve always been a computer geek so I passed this with nothing but a couple Practice tests but I can’t go to college cuz I’m broke as hell so now I’m just trying to figure out what I need to do to eventually be in an analyst role. Do I start out as help desk then just grind my way up or do I try to find volunteer work? Any tips gonna help bro
@@SuperWubDub First off, congrats on getting Sec+, that time and money will be an investment you WILL see. I would recommend applying for the Help Desk role. Think of the Help Desk as a paid internship. You will apply most of what you learned from Sec+ like application hardening, etc. However, if you want to investigate PCAPs then Help Desk is not the place for you. You will need to find out what YOU want to do in infosec. Everything is tied together, however, some people have higher skills in different subjects. To get a job in help desk with no experinece you will need to SELL YOURSELF. Show that you are willing to learn and keep growing. The cert gets you to the interview. It's up to you to nail the interveiw. Best of luck.
@@SuperWubDub If you go work at Walmart or Starbucks they will pay full tuition
Amazing. Do you actually work 40 hours a week or does it vary?
@@alanl9497 I'm working 40 atm. But you still qualify if you're part time.

This is a really great video. You have a bunch of great ideas and avenues/resources. Thank you for the video. I want to get into the IT field, trying to decide where I fit. 🙏🏻
Whatever it is, don't be a generalist. Specialize. Generalists are already saturated and are not that in-demand and don't get great salary. Specialists, however, are extremely in-demand and pay is great because there's not many of us.

Let me start by saying thank you for taking the time to make these videos they are very informative and I am gaining useful information every time I watch they are awesome. Great video! I've been an ISSO for the govt for about a year and 7 months. This was my first cyber job. Looking to move into a more technical role in the private sector early next year. I have my SEC+, as well as a masters in Cybersecruity Technology and plan on getting my AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner before i start applying next year. Hopefully this will land me a high paying technical job.
AWS is super hot right now and with a cyber background you will be golden. you set yourself up for success!
The technical jobs are not the ones that pay or have vertical potential. If you just want to be someone's toolmonkey all day you will get nowhere. The real money is in governance and program management along the analyst to CISO track. Top level CISOs make 330k a year. Being a technical role will limit you to the tech you're using, and in the specific role you're using it in. If you're managing the entire program, you're not as limited. So, I would say you're looking at it backward.
@@GTRNightswhat's a CISO?

So, is Python the go to programming language when it comes to cyber security?
Depends on what niche you are going into for instance if you were to go into application security..javascript would be needed more than python
Hey Nicole! What a great informative video! I live im Miami and I honestly had a big career change recently and I dot have a a degree in any computer or tech field but I am currently doing an IBM cyber security certificate through coursera, Would you say this a good step to start?
That cert is a good overview, but kind of hard to follow. I found it really dull to be honest. I am currently going through courses to find some good ones.
@@nicoleenesse yes! i want to find a good one. I heard the google cert is good. yeaa I've noticed it is quite dull. Plz keep us updated on the best ones. I just need some advice on how to jump start in this career path.

Interesting stuff. i am looking to get into the cybersecurity field. Is there advancement in job employment? Can you easily move up the ladder once you get your foot in the door?
Yes, there is tons of advancement
As someone who is looking for a career change but with very little computer knowledge other than the basic, what is the first step to learning? Thought about looking at online courses but would have to start from the ground. What kind of course should I learn first?
Start with the basics. Google IT support certification will go over the foundations

Hi Nicole, I recently passed my CySA+ and I'm looking to tailor my resume but I'm bad at resumes. Also, I will be graduating with BS by the end of the year. What's your advice? Do you think I can get a job before completing my degree?
I believe you can get a job. Resume is very important..just as important as your skill set!!
Right now I'm an IT admin for 6 months. I do a lot of cybersecurity work (monitoring for phising emails, monitoring weird APs on the network, security campaigns etc...) Do you think this would be a good place to jump into a cybersecurity analyst role? Or should I be aiming for a little bit higher tier title in the security realm?
Yes, those a great skills to have! I would aim a little bit higher, although it would depend on the company. it might be worth taking if th company has a lot of opportunities
Not the door in the foot...lol...great info an i love your videos, they've been a big help...THANKS!!
Glad you like them!
0:52 - I would have took that in a heartbeat!!!
Could I get a job after completing the IBM security analyst on Coursera without any experience?
You need a killer good resume and portfolio
Although it is frequent to read about the enormous demand of cyber security, I have read several times that is not that easy because it is seen as a sector that makes no money to the company, which one is the correct one? Also I would like to ask about working overseas with cyber security, how easy would be if for instance you want to relocate to let's say Australia or Switzerland?
Well, maybe not upfront. A lot of money is lost due to attacks such as the Colonel Pipeline ransomware attack that just happned...and cost the company millions
Don't even think about australia, there are no jobs, people are killing each other for a few jobs that are available.
If you want to protect valuables in transit from being stolen you need armored vehicles and guards. Infosec is the same just with networks. It's not a cost, really.
@@Louis13XIII this is a great visual
@@nicoleenesse thanks Nicole (love the channel btw).
I don’t get why our field is so misunderstood by the general public, it might be media’s fault and journalists preference for clickbaiting the user into the next “l33t h4xx0r attack” rather than giving accurate and relevant information about it
Thank you the video was very informative
Thanks
I appreciate your videos. I’m located in Virginia, looking to break into the cyber world. Want to do security analyst just to break into the IT WORLD
I am hoping I can get an answer to this question. When you get an entry level job as a cyber security analyst, do they usually have you shadow someone or do they “throw you to wolves”?
You will always shadow someone...but you never know!!
Its both. Usually, they are aware that you are entry level. Ideally you should be guided but you should also continue to learn more and more about your company and networks. Continue to learn security issues new and old, software, etc. While working to secure your company's network you need to keep up-to date on all things security..
They won’t throw you to the wolves, they will throw you too the monkeys, and there angry, and hungry, and on fire 🔥, I’m joking most entry level jobs they have someone looking over you
How many hours and days is the grave yard shift ?
same as daytime, just at night. So 11pm to 8am is a common shift but sometimes you can stack hours so 9pm to 8am 4x a week
I know this vid is old but itd still helpful I'm wrapping up a bootcamp n prepping for Sec+....this was everything to me
