This is a really great video. You have a bunch of great ideas and avenues/resources. Thank you for the video. I want to get into the IT field, trying to decide where I fit. 🙏🏻
Whatever it is, don't be a generalist. Specialize. Generalists are already saturated and are not that in-demand and don't get great salary. Specialists, however, are extremely in-demand and pay is great because there's not many of us.
1. What’s the difference between Cybersecurity Analyst and information security analyst? 2. Is a Masters in Computer information systems helpful to get cybersecurity roles? 3. Can Cybersecurity Analyst and information security analyst be automated?
Ehhh, the titles get mixed around by HR, so there is't really a standard across different industries. A maters degree can be helpful, but masters are usually if you want to go into management. Some of the tasks can be automated, but not all
Right now I'm an IT admin for 6 months. I do a lot of cybersecurity work (monitoring for phising emails, monitoring weird APs on the network, security campaigns etc...) Do you think this would be a good place to jump into a cybersecurity analyst role? Or should I be aiming for a little bit higher tier title in the security realm?
Yes, those a great skills to have! I would aim a little bit higher, although it would depend on the company. it might be worth taking if th company has a lot of opportunities
Just now watched your video. I'm currently a Cybersecurity student in the Indianapolis area. I've got a year left in school and do not know what job opportunities will come my way when I get through school. Thanks for the heads up!!!
As someone who is looking for a career change but with very little computer knowledge other than the basic, what is the first step to learning? Thought about looking at online courses but would have to start from the ground. What kind of course should I learn first?
Interesting stuff. i am looking to get into the cybersecurity field. Is there advancement in job employment? Can you easily move up the ladder once you get your foot in the door?
Thank You for the video. I am a computer dullard.. I literally know how to send an email only, but I completely damaged my lower back in the retail industry I have been working for the past 9 years and I have to come out of my comfort zone to learn something I have never think of learning, because I want that freedom of working from home, live in the UK and be able to go back home to my family in my country any time and for how long I want, so being able to work from anywhere.
Although it is frequent to read about the enormous demand of cyber security, I have read several times that is not that easy because it is seen as a sector that makes no money to the company, which one is the correct one? Also I would like to ask about working overseas with cyber security, how easy would be if for instance you want to relocate to let's say Australia or Switzerland?
Well, maybe not upfront. A lot of money is lost due to attacks such as the Colonel Pipeline ransomware attack that just happned...and cost the company millions
If you want to protect valuables in transit from being stolen you need armored vehicles and guards. Infosec is the same just with networks. It's not a cost, really.
@@nicoleenesse thanks Nicole (love the channel btw). I don’t get why our field is so misunderstood by the general public, it might be media’s fault and journalists preference for clickbaiting the user into the next “l33t h4xx0r attack” rather than giving accurate and relevant information about it

I am hoping I can get an answer to this question. When you get an entry level job as a cyber security analyst, do they usually have you shadow someone or do they “throw you to wolves”?
Its both. Usually, they are aware that you are entry level. Ideally you should be guided but you should also continue to learn more and more about your company and networks. Continue to learn security issues new and old, software, etc. While working to secure your company's network you need to keep up-to date on all things security..
They won’t throw you to the wolves, they will throw you too the monkeys, and there angry, and hungry, and on fire 🔥, I’m joking most entry level jobs they have someone looking over you

I can build you a computer from the ground up and install the OS in about an hour. I have basic networking understanding (setting up routers, passwords, firewall type devices). So nothing professional, but I have the drive to learn if I am pointed in the right direction.

I might be considering a career change in the future. I haven't worked in anything related to this field. I do have avid PC gamer amounts of knowledge about computers so doing something like this, in theory, wouldn't seem too daunting of a change for me. Definitely feel like it would be something I could catch on to. My question is what would be the best direction for me? Is it something a potential career changer would need to consider schooling for? I see people mention getting certificates first and considering schooling afterwards. Is that a viable path for someone in my position? I'm currently a real estate agent so any situation where I'll need to be working people or doing any form of social networking related to this field would be like second nature to me.

So, is Python the go to programming language when it comes to cyber security?
Depends on what niche you are going into for instance if you were to go into application security..javascript would be needed more than python

Thank you! Glad I could help. tons of opportunities
1. What’s the difference between Cybersecurity Analyst and information security analyst?
2. Is a Masters in Computer information systems helpful to get cybersecurity roles?
3. Can Cybersecurity Analyst and information security analyst be automated?
Find out next time on Dragon Ball Z!

Start with the basics. Google IT support certification will go over the foundations
I’m Changing careers. I have my MBA and I’m two semesters away from completing my AA in cyber security. I’m looking to break into the industry.
You can do it!
Interesting stuff. i am looking to get into the cybersecurity field. Is there advancement in job employment? Can you easily move up the ladder once you get your foot in the door?
Yes, there is tons of advancement
Don't even think about australia, there are no jobs, people are killing each other for a few jobs that are available.
If you want to protect valuables in transit from being stolen you need armored vehicles and guards. Infosec is the same just with networks. It's not a cost, really.
@@Louis13XIII this is a great visual
@@nicoleenesse thanks Nicole (love the channel btw).
I don’t get why our field is so misunderstood by the general public, it might be media’s fault and journalists preference for clickbaiting the user into the next “l33t h4xx0r attack” rather than giving accurate and relevant information about it
You note Boston as high competition, but didn't note that Atlanta is home to GaTech, the number one cyber security undergrad program in the country and one of the best grad programs. That area I would expect to be biased towards gatech grads.

I am hoping I can get an answer to this question. When you get an entry level job as a cyber security analyst, do they usually have you shadow someone or do they “throw you to wolves”?
You will always shadow someone...but you never know!!
Its both. Usually, they are aware that you are entry level. Ideally you should be guided but you should also continue to learn more and more about your company and networks. Continue to learn security issues new and old, software, etc. While working to secure your company's network you need to keep up-to date on all things security..
They won’t throw you to the wolves, they will throw you too the monkeys, and there angry, and hungry, and on fire 🔥, I’m joking most entry level jobs they have someone looking over you
Hello, I just arrived at this channel, I'm starting in cybersecurity, but I have 3 questions, can you help me? 1: Is it better to go after these certifications soon? comptia, CSSP, EC-COUNCIL...

3: Are AIs or this tech bubble that burst ending or could they end up with jobs in the area?
Could I get a job after completing the IBM security analyst on Coursera without any experience?

For cyber security, do you recommend the google it cert over the IBM cyber security course? I am really not sure which program I need to go with. I can build you a computer from the ground up and install the OS in about an hour. I have basic networking understanding (setting up routers, passwords, firewall type devices). So nothing professional, but I have the drive to learn if I am pointed in the right direction.
