Basic Korean 01 : Greeting, "I," "You," 반말(informal) vs 존댓말 (Formal)

- Опубликовано: 4 окт 2024
- Hey guys! So I started wearing braces... as you might have noticed midway from the slurpiness here and there. It's hard for me to speak and pronounce some words correctly, both Korean and English. But, I tried my best.. sorta. Thank goodness I recorded at least some bits before having braces inside my mouth. If you have any questions or suggestion, leave them in the comments! I look forward to reading them.

Hey everyone, I wanted to talk about something that was in the video but has been removed. About one minute in, while I was explaining why my speech suddenly became a bit slurred (it’s because I started wearing braces back then), I used a term that I now realize has offensive implications. As a non-native English speaker, I wasn’t fully aware of the connotations of that word at the time. My intention was just to make fun of myself, but I’ve since taken it down and will be more mindful in the future. I sincerely apologize for any hurt I may have caused! 🙏
finally i can open the link ❤
Hi! Just letting you know that the word “r*tarded is a slur in English and VERY HIGHLY offensive!
when she did the guy voice as well😭😭😂😂
Lmao that caught me off guard 🤣🤣🤣
Ikr bro! KSBSKSNWJDJSNKSNSMS ahhhh it's so adorable im.dying AHAHHABANS
Your classes are well taught. I enjoyed your Korean lessons, esp. the explanation for ㄱ,ㅋ, ㅂ, ㅍ, ㄷ, ㅌ, ㅁ, ㄹ,ㅎ. I'll never forget how to pronounce those 한글. Thank you so much.
Can't wait for your next lesson.
Thank you it means a lot 🙏
Yes 👍✅ she is right I also also wanted to say but i can't type too much long 😂😂 , but i also ❤😊🌹 thanks you for your great explanation
Omg is it official? Are you teaching Korean now?? Whether you are or not (and please don't feel pressured to, because I'd only want you to do it if it's bringing you joy), this video is great! Thank you so much
Yesss I'll be posting more Korean language contents although not exclusively 😊
And you're welcome, I'm really happy you like it!
@@KoreanwithMissVicky 감사합니다.
I'm brazilian and I've always loved learning new languages. I have spent many years of my life learning english and spanish and, now that I am fluent in both, I decided that it would be interesting to learn korean (BTS had a major part on this decision). At first, I found it very difficult to learn by myself, but I found your channel and you explain everything so well, with so many details, that it became easy. 선생님 감사합니다! You're doing an amazingly good job! ♥
Ayye, me too~ I'm fluent in Spanish and English and I'm learning Korean because of BTS' influence. This channel really does make it very easy to understand.
yep, BTS made me learn korean :)
. Espero aprender coreano porque inglês não deu aaaaaa 😭
I just wanted to leave this comment so express how grateful I am that you make these videos.
I’ve only been learning Korean for a little bit over a month, and I know so much more than I thought I would by now because of you. Everything you’ve explained, you’ve explained it very clearly, and I don’t think I’ve been confused once. Not to mention that because you’re a native, you know a lot more about daily life than other creators/services would.
The fact that you included both 존댓맬 and 반말 in this lesson is unbelievably helpful, I feel very comfortable with distinguishing between the two, and when to use them both. Although it’s only the tip of the iceberg with all the rules that come with these forms, I’m feeling ready to start learning with much more challenging content. My goal is to be able to fluently speak some basic Korean phrases after 1 month, and because of these videos, I’m armed with all the right knowledge to get me there.
I’m taking notes as I play through all your lessons, and I must say, these videos are crafted with care and are, at least in my opinion, perfect! I cannot stress enough how helpful you are in my journey to fluency! I’m also learning Spanish, but it’s not as fun and easy because there’s no Miss Vicky in the Spanish community 😁
고마워요! I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the future!
I know this video is a couple years old now but the r slur caught me off guard 🙁
R slur?
Thank you so much! Now I can communicate with kpop members lol!

This is so helpful! I went to sleep and woke up and still remembered some of the basic sounds and rules, so I'm on my way! Thanks for this. It was pleasant to learn to.
AHHH Itaewon Class!?! Park Saeroyi!!
Glad to see another RUclipsr teaching Korean. It's always good to have multiple sources. In the future, when displaying text that needs to be read, can you be sure to leave it on the screen long enough to read comfortably. I had to pause and rewind the video a few times in order to read everything.
That's what you're supposed to do with a video!
Ok I had noticed this before and would like to mention that the casual and formal speech thing is THE SAME in India!!! Like to whom u have to speak formal and to whom casual!!!
Yay I'm more excited now!!! Love ur vids😁
Yep that's right
is it so? i thought you use "tum" for casual, and "ap" for formal..and many other words also~~
@@irass325 yeah ...but she said that the thing about the closeness and intimacy is same in India like you can speak in the informal way to anyone you feel close to or friendly....
@@irass325 i feel Aap" is formal and Tum* is also formal it usually depends !
Yeah tu tum aap are the levels of closeness but you may use aap for a person who is close to you and some people use tu or tum for the people they just met and don't use aap. Thanks for mentioning.
Please continue, this is helping me so much❤
Thank you for your hard work! It helps a lot! 🦋
I can't believe that i'm learning Korean for free !! Luv ya videos so much, thank u soooo much Vicky !! =))
감사합니다 🖤🖤🖤🖤✨
🤗💗
I'm kind of happy that i don't have to think a lot about 반말 and 존댓말 since we also have almost exactly the same culture here in the Philippines on how to use our honorific or formal words, which also don't always apply on how it should be based on its rule.
안녕하세요 선생님. I literally watching every videos on your Korean Lesson playlist everyday. And it really helping me a lot, 감사합니다. Looking forward for more future lessons even tho I still have a lot of videos to watch from this playlist 😊
I know I'm probably late but now that you are wearing. braces, the way you speak is even more adorable. I can relate 'cause I just started wearing them too.
Ths idea of learning casual and formal words together is super cool... Thank you for great content you are the best 선생님 😍😍😍😍
Vicky beautiful class the Korean 💘💘💘💘
Please make more videos on learning Korean! Your descriptions and animations are great!
hi I really like your lessons and I saw you said you looked a bit *r word*, and I was just wondering if in the future you plz don't say that because it has a deep meaning and it can offend people with disabilities... :) I really like your lessons and I know you didn't intentionally mean it!
its always adorable when somebody gets braces for the first time and they sounds like a little kid learning to speak again which is saying again adorable
I love your classes you help me so much in learning korean..and the lesson you taught about the consonants and vowels..I shall never forget that cause u made it so easy for us to learn..THANKYOU SO MUCH😊💖 Keep teaching..and u are doing really well...From today u are my 선생님❣️ Lots of love from d other side of the world💖😊
I truly don't mean this in a mean way, god no... I love your dedication! But I almost died laughing when you said that because of your braces you would smile "differently"... and then you started talking... gold
Hello! I know this is an old video so you probably won’t see this, but I just wanted to say I recently got interested in learning Korean and your videos has really gotten me started well! Thank you so much!
감사합니다 ! :D
How long did it take for you to get to this point where youre good in korean? When did you start learning it? GIVE ME TIPSSS
@@Niniahnn well, i started a couple of days ago, so I’m not very good yet hehe :)) But I would probably just recommend following Vicky’s lesson series, I am a couple of lessons in and it is very helpful and informal :D Hope this helped a bit at least xD

Hello your video is amazing but I just want to let you know that at 1:05 the word after bit is actually a slur and is used as in a derogatory way towards people with special needs. I just wanted to let you know.
3:33 I lost it here 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
i think watching a lot of kdramas, really can be helpful to understand that where to use formal or informal speech. Seriously it works
Thanks a bunch for the 한국어 videos! I like your voice with your braces, you sound very cute. :D
Again,
감사합니다!
lmao i feel so guilty laughing at ur braces
for me is not hard to understand the difference between casual and formal because Romanian language is basically the same with casual and formal. I really think you are the best Korean teacher cause you teach slow for everyone to understand.
Măcar nu sunt singurul român care învață coreeana:)
고마워요
Wow!!i love ur teaching.It's interesting😇🙆🙆
Hello! I just recently discovered youuu! I must say I'm really having a wonderful time learning from your videos, this is my second video hehe :D you're a great teacher!
But I have to ask... I really don't understand how to read the "wuh" in ban-ga-wuh-yo, I watched your hangul video... but it doesn't match how to put together the consonants and the vowels or I just really don't understand.. huhu please help just this one word.... I try to read it slowly with my notes but I just cannot end up with "wuh"
I love your teaching style it's so helpfull for me. You explain in depth and without rushing so it very easy to understand
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!!! YOU GOT ME WHEN YOU DID THE GUY'S VOICE! THE BEST
She sounds so cute with braces🤭
감사합니다.
You're a great teacher. Your lessons are very organized and you explain very well. I like how you make things easy to understand. I am really learning a lot from you. Thank you!
Yes finally a great korean channel i have always lived to learn new stuff and i find korean interesting since aswell it is growing very fast and I think it will be a nice language to add to my languages which are Arabic and English
I'm still confused with letter b(bucket) when used as batchim(final consonant), sometimes it sounds like letter p, sometimes letter m. In any case, thanks for these free lessons Vicky!
how it is pronounced depends on the following letters!! go check her video about it it's explained very well!!
She explained this in her video called *consonant assimilation*
감사합니다 빅키심.. I hope u make more videos like this(with dialouge), it helps with the pronunciation and practice hearing as well..
👍👍👍👍
사랑했어요 선상님😭😭🌹🌹
You should fix this '사랑합니다 선생님'.
In Bengali we also have
informal ami (I) tui (you)
formal ami (I) tumi (you) and
honorific ami (I) apni (you)
Informal for younger (kids) and classmet or friends and for own sibling. Some use with their cousin sister or brothers too but I don't if he or she is not my age or younger than me.
Formal for parents, elder cousins and with close relatives.
Honorific for any unknown person and elderly people.

new here and im very much interested on learning about korean language (hangul) thank you for this.,.im a from Philippines. .,.and i love korea
hello miss vicky..keep on vlogging you really helped me alot..im here innsouthkorea now and im really struggling in korean language especially talking to korean native speaker.
thank you, 선생님 Miss Vicky ! 💜
i still confuse in word 만나서 반갑습니다. why in 갑 the ㅂ sound 'p' and the ㅂ in 습 sound 'm'?
The first ㅂ is followed by ㅅ, thats why it retained its original sound. The second ㅂ is followed by ㄴ, thats why it had some alterations in the pronunciation which was closer to 'm' sound. It is the way Korean says it I guess. Don't believe in me 100%, go and make some researches.
Watch her Constant Assimilation video.
Thank you, your lessons are really helpful, I can 100% follow them and it even makes fun to watch :) ♡
Best teacher ever😭😭💘💘💞💞

What are the different ways to answer 이름이 뭐에요?
Informal: 내 이름(은) ♥이야. /야. & (나는) ♥이야. /야.
1.If a kid asked my name, can I say this?
- 내 이름은 ♥이야. 내 이름은 ♥야.
2. Is it more natural to drop 은 and say this when speaking:
- 내 이름 ♥이야. 내 이름 ♥야.
3. Can I remove 내?
- 이름 ♥이야. 이름 ♥야.
4. Is this okay?
- 나는 ♥이야. 나는 ♥야.
5. Can I drop the 나는?
- ♥이야. ♥야.
Formal: 제 이름(은) ♥입니다. & 제 이름(은) ♥이에요. /예요. & (저는) ♥입니다. & (저는) ♥이에요. /예요.
6. This is the most formal textbook way, right?
- 제 이름은 ♥입니다.
7. When speaking, do most people say without 은:
- 제 이름 ♥입니다.
8. Same as 6, is this correct?
- 제 이름은 ♥이에요. 제 이름은 ♥이름은 ♥이에요.
9. Same as 7, can I drop 은 when speaking?
- 제 이름 ♥이에요. 제 이름 ♥예요.
10. For numbers 6 to 9, can I also drop the 제 when speaking? Can 제 be as easily dropped as 저는 & 나는?
- 6. 이름은 ♥입니다. 7. 이름 ♥입니다. 8. 이름은 ♥이에요./에요. 9. 이름 ♥이에요./예요.
11. Many textbooks say this. But what if I'm just meeting a classmate in uni or a peer at yoga class?
- 저는 ♥입니다.
12. This is what I usually say, and what most textbooks say.
- 저는 ♥이에요. 저는 ♥예요.
13. But I can drop the 저는 in 11 & 12, right?
- 11. ♥이에요. ♥예요. 12. ♥입니다.
Actually the formal and informal thing is same in our Indian Culture. So it's easy for me where to use it...😊
Hey first of all, I love your lessons and I‘m learning a lot! And I have a question, of which I‘m sure you‘ve covered it elsewhere, but here is it anyways: How do I know, when to use the First formal or the second formal Form ( imnida or ieyo) ?
how to form log sentences like "i study korean but it so hard"
it will be in the order 'I Korean study but it is so hard
Thankyou so much for this informative video 😊

i really really love your lessons!
Im here from the first video of hangeul alphabet (sorry for the mistakes but im not american) and it was hard, i also bought a book so i can write the alphabet and at the same time i learnt everything from you. It was hard for all the prononciations because certains letters change the sound . Do you have any tips for the rules of the prononciation s? By the way i love your channel and i feel safe and it s easy to learn with you. Love you❤
I know this is an older video but it’s concerning to me how I’ve seen a handful of ppl in the comments point out you using an ableist slur in your video, but i have yet to see a reply to any of them or at least an annotation on the video explaining that at the time you didnt realize you used an ableist term to clear up confusion for new ppl coming across your video
Get a life
Soooo useful!! Looking forward to the next one! 1😊
I'm an indian...and the fact is that korean and hindi(indian language) are similar 😅so it's not so hard to learn Korean for Indians
