    A few days ago, I found this channel and I thank the YT algorithm for this present! Most Koreans say it is so easy to learn Korean and I always feel somewhat sad to hear or read this. Somehow, it puts me under presser and lowers my motivation. BUT finally I found someone who is totally aware of the struggles and difficulties we foreigners try to overcome. I really love the clear and structured way of your teaching. It´s so nice to listen to the explanations and go through your examples step by step. Please keep teaching us in this awesome way! And thank you so much for all the effort you put into your videos. I sincerely appreciate it!!!

    Thank you for the lesson! I’m new to your channel and you‘ve already helped me a lot.
    I know you already did an excellent video about how to use 은/는/이/가 and explained a bit about 을/를 as well, but still confused as to when I DON‘T have to use them. Sometimes there are sentences where I‘d put a marker but the book or teacher doesn’t use one, especially if the sentences are shortened down.
    Like for example, “Do you like cake?“ If I translate that full sentence it‘s 너는 케이크를 좋아해요? But in I see this kind of sentence shortened to 케이크 좋아해요? without any marker so many times and I don’t understand the rule behind it...
    You did say it can be removed but why is it there sometimes and sometimes not? Do we only have to use it if we definitely need it to understand the sentence and can otherwise be left out?

    • @KoreanwithMissVicky
      @KoreanwithMissVicky  4 года назад +16

      No no it's okay I got what you mean, and yes that's a perfectly understandable question. To be completely honest, I don't know exactly how to explain this. I'm still trying to figure out if there's a certain pattern by observing every kind of speech I make with or without 을/를 and 은/는/이/가. I promise I will do a video or community post about this as soon as I figure out a way to explain this. Thank you for the great question!

      i think if the context is clear enough for the speakers, you can leave it. i can't find a proper explanation since my native language grammar also have this so it's natural to me. it's kinda hard to explain

    • @lingobyte1473
      @lingobyte1473 2 года назад

      I don't know if you already understood but here -
      1)Basically assume you are a bakery owner. You hand over a pastry to a kid and ask him, "is it good?" The kid will most likely reply with either a yes or a no. Now observe the sentence, you did not specify the kid's name or the object about which you were inquiring. You just asked if it is good since the eye contact with the kid and the handing over of cake already explained who you were talking to and what you were talking about respectively. So similar to how you don't always specify the subject an object in English, you don't ALWAYS have to do that in Korean either.
      Else just take a look at the sentence instanced by Viky - "이 책 정말 좋았어요" as you can tell, she did not use the object marker 이 even though grammatically the sentence would be, " 이 책이 정말 촣았어요" why? Simply because it was obvious.
      2) In certain situations where it is absolutely necessary such as a phone call where the context can never be as clear, you specify the subject and object. Another thing is formality. You generally specify the subject and object when speaking formally, for example the ㅂ/습니다 sentences since it is a business and money related situation and you need to specify the subject and object as clear as day so as to not cause any confusion. There are many more reasons but this is what I found to be most common. Also, generally when talking to people for the first time, it is polite to use markers :)
      I am a fellow learner too, let me know if I go wrong

    This lesson is really helpful!! (The others are brilliant as well). Best Korean language learning method. Even though you're attractive looking (even pre-ps😊), I prefer this way of learning 'visual written and aural explanation' over face to face learning, because looking at a person - at least for me - distracts somewhat from the learning content, as one is reading the emotional expression of the person, rather than solely being immersed in the learning content. (But that might be just me, because I'm a musician - aural).
