❤❤❤Loved this interview! Was lucky enough to hear Horace with Tom Harrell, Bob Berg, Roker, et all. Horace was a force of nature!
Loved "Gregory is Here" changes w/ Brecker Brothers.

Thank you for posting. Horace has been my favorite musician since I first listened to him about 50 years ago on my father's hard bop albums. Saw him live 2 separate occasions in Detroit Baker's Keyboard Lounge as a kid--unforgettable.

@@glansing69 Yeah, glansing69, my father did me right by taking me to see him (i was about 12 yrs old the 1st time)--my pops made the effort to introduce himself and me to Horace between sets the 1st I saw him--Horace did not disappoint--he was very kind, gracious, and conversational with us.

IMO, as far as jazz playing is concerned, Breckers did their absolute best with Horace. Heard that group in1973 and was very impressed with both of them and much less so later on.

Horace performed very little in his latter years; seeing him was a great treat. Such classic jazz tunes on his own, and so many great tunes with Blakey. The HardBop Grandpop!

01:17 Just for the record, it's not Doug Watkins but Curly Russell that's playing bass on "Live at Birdland".

I love Horace Silver but I was curious about something he said in the interview: don't play too long. When I went to the Village Vanguard to see the quintet, I tuned out after a long time because his soloists "played too long". The soloists were very good but the only one I wanted to hear in an extended way was Horace Silver. Curiously, I heard Coltrane in the quartet at a number of clubs and he played very extensively but I had no trouble hearing solos that lasted from 30 minutes to one hour.
