I had the luck one day, many years ago, of walking around at Skamania Lodge in Washington state one afternoon and hearing something that thrilled me. I walked past a conference room and heard a faint piano lydian scale through the wall. Just up and down the scale a few times. I found down another hallway an unlocked door and crept into the empty room-except for a man at a grand piano on the other end of the room. Warren Bernhardt was sitting there running through some pieces of tunes. I had chills... I had heard him on many records (Michael Franks for one) and knew what he sounded like but had no idea what he looked like. I listened-mesmerized at the sheer beauty of what I was hearing. I wondered silently how someone could be hanging out at the lodge and sound so GOOD! You see... I had no idea he was in town.... he got up from the piano and walked across the room right toward the door I had come in. As he got close he just smiled-I made eye contact and said very quietly "You sound great!! Simply beautiful" ...he stopped, nodded and said "glad you liked it-Warren Bernhardt-thanks for being quiet and letting me work" He walked out of the room calmly.... I sat there stunned! I went to the front desk and asked if any jazz was scheduled at the Lodge. The lady said "Yes... some jazz concert tomorrow. I've never heard of them... couldn't tell you who exactly." I just smiled.... "Thanks!"
What a needle drop at the beginning...was wondering what song they came out of with that much steam and then they hit the head at the end and it was Bullet Train. Wow.
Erskine... Dang! .....Pat Metheny says the drummer is always the leader of the band. I think all of these guys were the leader that night! ...but man, that drum solo....
great performance !!!! we had the honor of having the God of bebop saxophonists here in Italy !!!! In these years Mike used the Dukoff on his MKVI and not yet the Dave Guardala mouthpiece ....
That may have been one of the most unbelievable, beautiful things I have ever heard... They were flawless. I am in awe. Music, played and made at its highest level.
I waited for so long to see a show of this incarnation if steps ahead (esp if the step by step cd). Unbelievable video (and sounds surprisingly good). BTW it feels a bit cut - any chance you can also upload part 1? Anyway big thanks Luis 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Up in heaven Jesus and Mike are the best of friends, Jesus can't get enough of Mikes playing. That's why he continues to postpone his return to earth.

Tempi strani gli anni ottanta; erano i tempi dei giganti...ora stanno morendo ad uno ad uno in questo orrido millennio.
That may have been one of the most unbelievable, beautiful things I have ever heard... They were flawless. I am in awe. Music, played and made at its highest level.
