    So glad I found this thread of conversations on this topic. I have a housefull of plants, I ALWAYS pour boiling water over any soil before I use and I've never had fungus gnats....until 6wks ago. I'm blaming my Colocasia corms that I was bringing out of dormancy (first time doing this). Even though I've never had gnats I hang yellow stickies to make sure. So I was shocked to find gnats there about 2wks after I started watering those corms. Is it possible the eggs or whatever stay dormant in the corm, I'm thinking yes. So these were in my grow tent and no where else and the only other things growing in there was overwintered Mandevilla & Geraniums with no issues since October. I just recieved my Amazon order of dunks this morning. What I did was crush one dunk in a freezer bag and sprinkled a heaping 1/8th teaspoon over all the pots in the tent. Then I put a 1/4 of a whole dunk in my 2gal watering can that I'm letting sit over night. I'll water each pot over the top in the morning to activate the dunk power on top of soil but then go back to bottom watering going forward. Ugh I hope this works because I will be pulling my hair out if those buggars make their way out of tent and upstairs into my houseplants. I'm needing my tent because my seedlings are outgrowing my germination shelves. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Life of a plant lover/grower. Thanks for letting me vent 😂🤣😂

    Thanks so much for your email. I just ordered mosquito dunks from Pickering, along with 2 packs of12 sticky Stix. I have 77 plants and some in the water, and so far it has cost me so much. Never had this problem before, well, I have not had as many plants before, but still. You know, I just wonder if this is done on purpose so we shell out more money into their packets.....??? Makes one think....
    And on top of that, some other sites recommend using dunks for several months. Not so much fun, because oxygen water is also very good for plants. Also, I use humic acid for them as well and they love it, so do gnats.
    Anyway, I also tried hydrogen peroxide, but gnats seem to love that and multiply happily. So we shall see.

Also is it normal that it hasn't dissolved completely? I put half a dunk in a bucket last night and this morning it was still intact. This morning I broke it into little pieces, but I still see tons of little bits floating on top. Is it normal? Thanks! :)

    • @jungleflowerscanada5384
      @jungleflowerscanada5384  2 года назад

      Hi Lisa, they take a long time to dissolve, what I do is just leave them in my watering can and if you can remember to fill it when you've finished watering to allow it to sit in the water until next.time. they should last you a couple of months. You don't need to break them up. You should see results after about 4 weeks. If things are.really bad for you, you.can buy a spray called Doktor Doom Fogger. You need to spray and leave the house for around 2 hours. It is AMAZING, it kills all the adults and helps with the process. If you have pets you need to remove them also. I have 2 dogs and they are fine.

      I put half a dunk in my watering can and it lasts for months if you can, keep your watering can full so the dunk gas time to dissolve

      Yes, once it has time to sit in the water it doesn't really matter how big your container is

    I also never had them until this year, and it is so bad, I have tried everything including sticky traps nothing worked, I also just received mosquito dunks a few days ago and soaking them now in the 5 liters of water, I will water my plants with it tomorrow and see what happens. fungus gnats become world wide problem now :)

    Keep the watering to a minimum, plants don't need full saturation all the time, and moist soil is the culperate for the fungus gnats
