You can also crush the mosquito dunks down into a granular/powdery like and mix it into your soil. Works like a charm for me.
Thanks for the tip Michael, I'll try that also 💚
I watched a video that said it got moldy in their soil. So no mold with yours?
@@littlechocolateoxox I've never gotten moldy soil using crushed mosquito dunks in my pots. I crush my dunks into a powder, not chunks Different climates, different types of soil, too much moisture, reusing old/unsanitary pots, and etc...there's a number of things that can cause mold in the soil.
@@michaelfirster9205 oh okay. What do you use to crush them? I really don’t want to use anything I use for food like a coffee grinder lol.
@@littlechocolateoxox Actually, I do use an old food grinder now, but when I first started, I'd placed one in a couple of sandwich bags and tapped it with a hammer. Once you break it up, they start crushing fairly easily. I keep my old food grinder clean and in the shed.
💚💚 glad to hear there has been a decrease in gnats for you ! Thanks for the update ☺️
Thanks Justine 💚
Someone said in FB group, that they think the fungus gnats are in the potting soil we are using. I am not sure but one thing is certain, I never had them either until this past season (2020). So glad someone shared the mosquito bits in water with me too.
Yes, definitely something funny going on. Too much of a coincidence. 💚
I agree. I found out my bag of soil was full of fungus gnats. it was winter time and I didnt want to throw everything so I kept it and now try to fight the gnats (silly me). Maybe I will think twice next time haha. I heard some people treat the bag of soil with mosquito dunks right after it gets home to insure that there is no fungus gnats.
@@CycyTruong yes, definitely a bigger issue this year, I was shocked to see how many I had. Never had the problem before.
They definitely are in many of the commercial potting soils AND in the pots.... esp fr Walmart & Home Depot
I just found you as I'm battling my own fungus gnat situation! I'm also in Canada and will check out the dunks for sure. 💚😊💚
Definitely work. I stopped for a couple of weeks and I couldn't believe how many came back. I think you just need to keep doing it. Thanks for watching. 💚
Hello! I'm so happy I found your channel and videos! I am also fighting fungus gnats, and have never had them before. I am in the Niagara Region of Ontario, hello Neighbour! Thank you for sharing your experience with Mosquito Dunks. I have been making dunk tea for a couple of weeks but I am still struggling. It's so frustrating! I have a lot of vegetable plants to start in the coming weeks, and I'm so scared that they will be stunted by the gnat larva. Wishing you the best in your battle. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Fingers crossed, mine are pretty good now, I just see the odd one. I use electric mosquito traps also, the help. I do have a video on that of you want to check it out. When they go on sale on Amazon I buy them, I have them in every room now.
@@jungleflowerscanada5384 I've been looking at those! Thanks!
It’s been 2 years now, did it work. Thanks!
Yes!! I've had a house _full_ of plants for over 15 years now and *NEVER* have I _ever_ seen a single fungus gnat flying around until 2020... I added quite a few additional plants this year (2021) and the colony has just *EXPLODED!!* So I think you're right: the soil and/or plants in our stores (I live downtown T.O.) _must_ be pre-invested right now 😕 Thanks for helping me solve the mystery! And wish me luck with some Dunks... 🤞🤞🤞
I know, my parents house was full.of plants and I never saw a finished gnat or thrips either, now it's a constant issue. The mosquito dunks definitely make a difference as I got lazy and stopped for a while and the little buggers came back so quickly 😫
Do u know how much water and mosquito dunks need to be use?
💚 great improvement. Plantrunz such a great idea
Thanks Cindy and yes, I love Plantrunz 💚
💚 thank you I bought the mosquito dunks from the website you recommand. I will try the same tommorow! Hopefully those gnats will go away. I am also planning to use a barrel of water with mosquito dunks inside to water my flower garden, I hope that it is not harmful for the bees. I want to try to reduce mosquitoes this year. Really like your videos. Thanks again!
I have a pond and I'm going to put one in there this year as we do have a problem with mosquitos in the summer.
So glad I found this thread of conversations on this topic. I have a housefull of plants, I ALWAYS pour boiling water over any soil before I use and I've never had fungus gnats....until 6wks ago. I'm blaming my Colocasia corms that I was bringing out of dormancy (first time doing this). Even though I've never had gnats I hang yellow stickies to make sure. So I was shocked to find gnats there about 2wks after I started watering those corms. Is it possible the eggs or whatever stay dormant in the corm, I'm thinking yes. So these were in my grow tent and no where else and the only other things growing in there was overwintered Mandevilla & Geraniums with no issues since October. I just recieved my Amazon order of dunks this morning. What I did was crush one dunk in a freezer bag and sprinkled a heaping 1/8th teaspoon over all the pots in the tent. Then I put a 1/4 of a whole dunk in my 2gal watering can that I'm letting sit over night. I'll water each pot over the top in the morning to activate the dunk power on top of soil but then go back to bottom watering going forward. Ugh I hope this works because I will be pulling my hair out if those buggars make their way out of tent and upstairs into my houseplants. I'm needing my tent because my seedlings are outgrowing my germination shelves. 🤦🏻♀️ Life of a plant lover/grower. Thanks for letting me vent 😂🤣😂
Vent away, I'm with you. I just did another video on a few hacks I use if you'd like to check out out

@@jungleflowerscanada5384 Just watched it, will for sure look for the machine you showed. I wish I could fog but having an indoor cat that gets violent about car rides that isn't an option for us. I wouldn't trust even putting him in a seperate room with that chemical present in the air. I'm so glad the dunks in the watering can have been successful for you. I'm encouraged life can go back to normal in about 4wks. 😁
Fantastic videos. Do you think the mosquito dunk formula is it safe to use continually?
Yes, I stopped for while and I started to see the little buggers again, now I use them all the time.
Green Heart, Love your videos, Thank you
Thank you so much Veronique 💚
What type of water do you use, water from the tap or distilled water?
Love your Dragon Scale.... congrats. Just got a Frydek & Poly myself
Thanks Gary, just saw your comment now 💚
I just bought a package of 6 at my local Peavy Mart in Saskatchewan a few days ago. You might also try looking at places like Canadian Tire and Home Hardware. I didn't look at either of those, but I think I heard somewhere they may be available there.
Thanks for the heads up, I have tons of them at the moment though 🤪🥴
Thank you for the information 😊
You're welcome 💚
Thanks for sharing, Mosquito Dunks were $12 cheaper than Amazon for the 20 pack at Urban Nature Store in Ontario.
I'm so glad 😊
💚💚 glad to hear things are better.
Thanks Sheryl 💚
There seems to be a real problem with fungus gnats right now. I've had plants in my home for years and am experiencing this for the first time. I've used some Organic potting soil for the first time so it may be that the gnats are in there. Other than that, there is nothing else I've done differently as far as my plants go. They are really annoying. I will be trying the mosquito dunks for the first time this weekend. Fingers crossed this works. 🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾
Just saw your comment now, I have found mosquito dunks to be the best watering prevention. I just put a new video out about some other hacks if you want to check it out
ruclips.net/video/3JaYjwHjpQs/видео.html
I am also battling fungus gnats this year and had to buy sticky paper for the first time since owning my plants. 💚
There is definitely a pattern here, what's going on????💚
I ended up with a gnat issue when I repotted some of my plants with an infested bag of brand new soil 😭 I ordered (Amazon) these dunks a few days ago-before seeing this video. I will also be using Diatomaceous Earth alongside the dunks.
They are such a pain and definitely an issue since 2020. Good luck, I hope you get them under control. Check out my video on the mosquito trap, ot works great once you get them.under control. 💚💚💚
💚 , where did you get the big yellow sheets from? I am in brantford Ontario and I have only been able to buy small yellow flags locally that I have seen
I got them from Amazon, I'll try and find the link for you. Did you see my video on the mosquito trap, it's working great for me.

I can't get a link but this is the description

Hi, I have this issue for a long time. After lockdown I bought it immediately. After watching your video I have confident to get rid of it. Just want to know could I use on my orchids? Is it mix water and pour it into the plants? Thanks
I think it should be fine. I pop quarter of a dunk into my watering cans and it takes a couple of weeks to fully dissolve. Definitely works
@@jungleflowerscanada5384 Thank you very much
Thank for this video, yes, helpful. You do have lots of plants, just like me. Thanks for your reply, just a few minutes ago. I did write back, but it did not work that way. So I will copy and paste here. Also, I am planning to start seedlings for vegetable beds and hope there will not be gnats there. Another moths...
This is the reply for your message a few minutes ago.
Thanks so much for your email. I just ordered mosquito dunks from Pickering, along with 2 packs of12 sticky Stix. I have 77 plants and some in the water, and so far it has cost me so much. Never had this problem before, well, I have not had as many plants before, but still. You know, I just wonder if this is done on purpose so we shell out more money into their packets.....??? Makes one think....
And on top of that, some other sites recommend using dunks for several months. Not so much fun, because oxygen water is also very good for plants. Also, I use humic acid for them as well and they love it, so do gnats.
Anyway, I also tried hydrogen peroxide, but gnats seem to love that and multiply happily. So we shall see.
Thankfully mine are pretty much gone. Did you see my newest video that I put up on Monday, I speak about fungus gnat treatment in that also. Thanks for watching
I had problems with fungus gnats this year too! First time. I swear they came from the orchid bark I purchased.
Yes something funny going on, to many coincidences 💚
Me too! I've had a house _full_ of plants for over 15 years and 2020 was the _very_ first time I ever saw a single fungus gnat flying around my house... And I'm out of potting mix now too 😕 Definitely hesitant about getting more at this point
It makes sense cause mosquito dunks active ingredient is a bacteria that kills larvae (both mosquito and Fungus gnat larvae) thanks for the tip
Hi did you try crushing them and sprinkling them on top of the soil? It worked or me when I got gnats on my string of Pearls. Eighty nine dollars for a dragon scale plant?????
I know, they sell for.$5 now 🥴
Hello. My house has been infested with fungus gnats this year... :( I bought some dunks, but I'm getting mixed answers on how much water for one dunk? Also is it normal that it hasn't dissolved completely? I put half a dunk in a bucket last night and this morning it was still intact. This morning I broke it into little pieces, but I still see tons of little bits floating on top. Is it normal? Thanks! :)
Hi Lisa, they take a long time to dissolve, what I do is just leave them in my watering can and if you can remember to fill it when you've finished watering to allow it to sit in the water until next.time. they should last you a couple of months. You don't need to break them up. You should see results after about 4 weeks. If things are.really bad for you, you.can buy a spray called Doktor Doom Fogger. You need to spray and leave the house for around 2 hours. It is AMAZING, it kills all the adults and helps with the process. If you have pets you need to remove them also. I have 2 dogs and they are fine.
What I got from others, use about quarter of one dunk to a gallon of water. Let it steep overnight or longer if you can. I have several one gallon jugs from distilled water I get, so I am using it for dunk tea. Hope this helps too. Alena
Can you please share the mosquito dunk to water ratio (or your exact method of using it)? It wasn't super clear in your first video.
I just bought a bunch of plants, but I'm really afraid of insects... Would love to treat the soil right off the bat before I start really noticing anything.
Hi Deborah, I just put a quarter of a dunk in the watering can and topped it up with water. It lasts for weeks, it is very slow to dissolve. There really isn't a ratio.
@@jungleflowerscanada5384 I see. May I ask how big (L or Gallon) is your water can? Or do you just keep filling it up and watering and filling it up until the 1/4 tablet all dissolves?
@@deborah3783 I just keep filling it up. It's probably 1 gallon.
@@jungleflowerscanada5384 Thank you! :D
I like the emergency blanket idea 💡 because it's one of my ideas as well 👍
They work so well 💚💚💚
A huge battle! Trying carnivorous plants like pitcher plants and butter worts to help 💚
Yep 💚
@@jungleflowerscanada5384 I’m just starting my journey into plant care and the thought of pests is almost putting me off the whole adventure! Thanks for sharing your experience. So very helpful

any updates?
💚💚♥️💚💚
Looks like they are slowing down for sure.
Yes, this nearly broke my heart, what a battle 💚
You put a quarter to the water and how long did u wait for it to dissolve?
It takes a few weeks to fullt dissolve, I just top it up with water after using it and let it sit till next time.
Just bought a monstera adansonii and mosquito dunks, so hopefully I'll have luck with them!
Fingers crossed, congrats on your adonsonii 💚
Im trying out dunks! did the piece ever end up dissolving in the water?
They take a long time to fully dissolve which is a good thing as they last a very long time.
Which sticky boards do you use?
I just order from Amazon, no particular ones
I’ve had it with Fungus Gnats so I bought Mosquito Dunks to use on my plants. BUT I have a couple of Ginger plants growing indoors and I’m just not sure if it’s safe to use on them, as I use the leaves in cooking and will eventually be harvesting the ginger. Any thoughts on this?
I probably wouldn't use it on plants that you eat. Something you could try, now I can't guarantee ot would work would be neem powder, I've used it, very messy, but maybe try putting a good layer of it on your ginger plants. Can't vouch for it 100% but in theory it may work. Also, I'll link a video I did on bug traps, not sure where you live but I just ordered another one yesterday as it was on sale for $12.99. I'll put 2 links here.

Thanks so much for your reply.
Got a Christmas Amaryllis plant and the outer pot has no drainage- I’ve seen some gnats and sticky traps confirm that was the source. I threw away last year’s amaryllis after it bloomed because it, too, had gnats. Trying to keep it isolated from my other plants but now that the gorgeous blooms are popping it’s probably going to be too big for the window sill. Just bought some mosquito dunks and will try this method - hope it works!!
I’ve been using mosquitos dunks for two months, no change. My mother never had fungus gnats in 50 years of plant keeping, I had not either until about 2019, I had to repot those in new sterilized soil. That’s the only thing that worked. I am about to repot all my plants now with sterilized soil. Ughhh I hate fungus gnats!
Are you in Canada? If so, you could try Doktor Dooms Fogger, if you have pets you would need to take them out of the house, or confine them to an area that you aren't fogging. It will kill all the live ones and then continue using the mosquito dunks. I have no fungus gnats at the moment. If you're not in Canada, you may be able to buy systemic treatments to add to soil also. Good luck.
how long to soak the dunk in the water before using?
I leave it in the watering can it takes a very long time to fully dissolve
Mine came from a big bag of miracle grow when i repotted my plants in the spring
Holy Toledo's I have so many gnats this year too!!! I just started using the misquote bits this week 🤞🏼🤞🏼 it helps!!
Great, we can't get mosquito bits in Canada, only the dunks. I wish we could. 💚
i noticed there coming in the dirt,if you had added new plants or transplant some planted some
Yes, I definitely think they came in the potting soil
💚 No gnats in my house, I switched to lechuza pon. 😁
I wish I had the strength to change them all 😅 not for the faint hearted 💚
💚
Yes that’s my problem too .
It's definitely an issue in the last year. Think it will be an upward battle. 💚

Thanks Liz 💚
I also see a big reduction in mind too! I’m so happy!💚
Great, onwards and upwards we go 💚
How much of water and how many mosquito dunk need to be use?
I put half a dunk in my watering can and it lasts for months if you can, keep your watering can full so the dunk gas time to dissolve
@@jungleflowerscanada5384 can i use gal
Of water coz i use measuring cup to water my plant.
Yes, once it has time to sit in the water it doesn't really matter how big your container is
I also never had them until this year, and it is so bad, I have tried everything including sticky traps nothing worked, I also just received mosquito dunks a few days ago and soaking them now in the 5 liters of water, I will water my plants with it tomorrow and see what happens. fungus gnats become world wide problem now :)
Mine are pretty much gone, just an odd one from New plants. I'll link my recent video woth some other tips for you.
