      I'm the same way. I just retired a 25 year old bow. Think my new one is around 12 years old. I have had the same worn-out cammo for 23 years. I still fill the freezer. You don't need to look like a sportsmanship celebrity to drop your deer. It's just being smart enough to know what you need to know about your hunting area.

    The thought that kept going around and round in my head while watching you walk through the brushey woods and the grassy field that down here on the Eastern shore you would turn into a purple raspberry of chigger bites...... Guess that isn't the case where you hunt. Well done young man.

      USE PERMETHRIN!!! I hate a stinkin tick..
      It can get you busted sent wise, but just treat your clothes in it and let them dry outdoors & then wash them in whatever scent free soap you use. I use Dead down wind. I started hunting on September 1 and I can only remember picking one tick off of me this year.

    I dropped two does one right after the other within seconds last season on opening day with my Marlin 336. This opening day for antlerless, I went out and saw nothing but bucks including a big six and a nice shooter 8 that fed at 15 yards in front of me and I couldn't touch them. Then a doe walked up behind me and busted me. Can't make that kind of Murphy's Law up. LOL That's how I hunt, from the ground. Never a tree stand, never a shooting house, never a ground blind...just whatever Ma' Nature provides for me out there. Good job.

  • @SharingTheOutdoors
    @SharingTheOutdoors 10 месяцев назад

    Took my very first bow deer on the ground, and all the years since only done it one other time. Same situation, heading to my spot and deer were on their feet, so I just picked a low spot that headed out into the field and a fork horn tried to slip by at 15 yards. Pretty intense, but difficult to sit still enough for long enough to get it done. Congrats!

    I used to use the 3” schwacker and switched to the #269 and have found I get the same cut as the 3”, with less bent blades to straighten before resharpening. Also like the hunt plug system way better than the bands

    • @turtleman5111
      @turtleman5111 10 месяцев назад

      What do you mean? I just bought some Swacks, didnt get a shot yet, and I use a Xbow, because I'm old; but I saw some reviews that say that the bands might break upon shooting? I wouldn't want THAT to happen! I also have to ground hunt; sometimes shooting thru weeds. I've done it before, and thankfully was using Toxics+Spitfires which worked perfectly.

    I sorta wish the does in my area were as plentiful so I could get a decent shot at one with a bow, but I do not envy the amount of ticks! Only ever shot does with a muzzleloader which is fine and all but they just don't come around within bow range during archery season. I'll probably have does all around me just because I filled my antlerless tag during early doe this year. We have 2 more days before archery season opens for MI.
