Meatloaf has a huge catalogue of hits. Huge. This album stayed in charts 522 weeks.
That's 10 years. Love Meatloaf, but I don't think that is actually accurate.
@@goldengreen7763 it is, UK album chart
@@goldengreen7763 it's accurate in the UK he was mega popular
I wore out 4 cassettes of this album.
@@phoenixfox3379 damn it hearing about cassettes makes me feel old as even though I was born in 97 we used them heavily up until 2011
*TO ALL:* _This reaction was at the beginning of my "Meatloaf journey" and many things in my commentary were spoken from a place of being uninformed. Then again, that tends to happen with a first-time reaction. _*_RIP, Meatloaf!!_*
The whole bat out of hell album is a hit
You're seeing the brillance of Jim Steinman and the pure passion and theatrics of Meat Loaf. In a word Perfection. It never got any better then this album.
Very well said! This was indeed epic, performance rock! Ear and eye candy!
the guitarist and producer was Todd Rundgren.
“I don’t think they had many hit songs.”
Nope, they created one of the greatest rock albums of all time. 😂
No hate, you’re just in for an epic journey.
and one of the best selling albums of all time too i believe. bat out of hell is an album that should be in everyone's collection
@@itscrazyal I’ve listed to it an absurd amount of times. I broke the cassette player in my step fathers truck when I was a kid because I couldn’t get the tape out.
I didn’t know the car had to be on to take it out so I used a screwdriver. That got stuck and when I tried to yank it out I shattered the passenger side window.
Fun times haha
most of their songs were too long for mainstream radio.
Yeah my jaw hit the floor there. But at least another person is learning.
I wanted to comment on that line that made me chuckle, but I see someone already did.
The album sold 50 million copies and received 14 Platinum record awards and spent 522 weeks in the UK album charts.peace out.
One of the best albums ever! I probably wore out 2 or 3 cassettes.
Masterpiece. One of the best songs ever written and performed
Absolutley 100% agree with you
@@jburgs100, I second that!
Fun fact. Motorcycle sounds performed on guitar by Todd Rungren...one take.
i may be wrong, but Bat Out Of Hell was the the third most selling album in history forever, don't know if it still is.
Yes, it still is. I checked the other day. 🙂♥️
One of the best songs ever written is "For crying out loud" by Meatloaf. People don't write like that anymore. Even if you don't react to it..don't let that song pass you by.
'I was lost 'til you were found
And I never knew how far down I had fallen before I reached... the bottom'
Jim Steinman is my definition of genius. Such a loss.
It’s my favourite - just love it.
You’re right….my favorite too. Which is hard to say because I love them all so much!
Agreed, For Cryin Out Loud is a great one
When you paid to see his show, Meat Loaf gave you a show.
And I did.. And he did!!
Fucking A!!! I travelled all over to see him concert.
on occasion he had to be rived with oxygen backstage. he truly gave it his all onstage.
To date: 50 MILLION copies of this album have been sold. Who really needs a hit song when the entire album is a hit.
The album Bat out of Hell has the Guinness World Record "The Longest Charting Record". And everyone who has listened to music back then knows the album by heart. It is and remains the best album ever. Meat Loaf wasn't a band. Meat Loaf is the singer. He was and is also an actor and now calls himself Michael Lee Aday. He had his first success with his role on the Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). He was born 1947.
Meat Loaf, although being the nickname of the singer was definitely the “band” at this point. Jim Steinman wrote every song and played piano on this record. Todd Rungren produced and played guitar.
Marvin Lee Aday
This whole album, in my opinion is one of, if not the greatest, of all time. Bat out of hell and back in black. 2 albums with every song being a hit
One of the few albums you can put on and let play
The entire album is pure EPIC ROCK
The album Bat out of Hell spent 522 weeks in the album charts THATS 10 YEARS!!!!over 43 million copies sold.Every song on the album is amazing from ballads like "Crying out loud" to 300mph tracks like "All reved up" a rock n roll masterpeice.
It's over 75 million copies sold. And counting,
@@henrikl1394not according to wiki.what is your resource?
Oh bro! Meatloaf had many many hits 👍 you’ll have fun discovering them
Meatloaf is not a group, he is the singer. A rock n roll god!
In 44 years I have personally worn out one vinyl record, three cassette tapes, and two CDs of Bat out of Hell. This is the best album ever. Plus the cd that my son stole from me when he left for college.
Wearing out a CD is pretty difficult.
meatloaf, one of the greatist live concerts artists ever
Every song on Bat out of Hell was a masterpiece.
one of the greatest debut albums ever
Im 50 + , I've Had MEATLOAF on record, 8track, cassette and CD..NOBODY can go from. Screem to a whisper like Meatloaf.
Bat Out of Hell is one of the top 3 best albums I have heard in my 76 years of loving music. Bat Out of Hell 2 isn't bad but 1 has 0 bad songs.
Billy Joel stood up on a table first time he heard this
dude I totally hope this is true lmao
@@Puckanm it is.
I BELIEVE MEATLOAF is more well known as theatrical singer but one song that was always played on the radio by him is two out of three ain't bad.
Six out of the seven songs on this album were released as hit singles, and the seventh is my favorite song of all time, so a pretty good album, you might say! One thing I recently learned about this track is that Steinman was inspired by the opening of Hitchcock's Pyscho, where the camera starts out really high above a town and comes down to zoom into a bedroom window. The opening lyrics do the same thing, moving from a description of the whole city to the problems of just two people in it. Genius.
RIP Mearloaf!! Missing a great part of history now. U will be truest missed. Passed away last night at 74.
Meat Loaf (2 words) is the singer, not the group. He is incredible. Check out the official video for "Paradise by the Dashboard Light." It's much easier to understand, and funny as hell, yet just as theatrical. It is also on this album (Bat out of Hell) and for good reason one of the top selling albums of all time. Jim Steinman is the songwriter, and HE is the eccentric one. He wrote everything you've ever heard from Meat Loaf, and some other huge hits like "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and "It's All Coming Back to Me Now." He is rightfully in the songwriter's hall of fame.
I 2nd this request! I hope you react to the 8 minute version, it's the album version and the best in my opinion. The whole Bat Out of Hell album was something like I had never heard before. Nice reaction!
I love meat loaf
Meatloaf was all about the stage presence he was the king of the rock opera, that is why he stands out he had great music, he was blessed with great lyrics and he had IT on stage. In a time when videos were promotional mainly stage presence was HUGE. His live shows are what sold albums. He was a master of getting the crowd into his music. He actually PERFORMED for the audience. When you saw Meatloaf you KNEW he was going to put on a Hell of a show. THAT is what made him so great and his backups and his musicians were top notch. Bigger than life and they wanted YOU to feel it. His music stands out because of the intensity and the passion they gave to it. A very under-rated band in my opinion. R.I.P. Meat.
The whole album "Bat out of Hell" was a hit, not one bad song. For its time was controversial but compared today not so much. Songs were written by Jim Steinman who was with him in his band, singer and pianist in his own right. RIP Meatloaf, he passed yesterday 1/20/22 There will never be another album like Bat Out of Hell, Meatloaf elaborate stage shows was due to his experiences on Broadway and live theater
Meatloaf ..."Objects in the rear view mirror may appear closer than they are"
You Took the Words Out of my Mouth, was the 1st song released that sparked the success of this album and was big hit, but no one seems to react to it. Give it a listen
That was my 1st favourite song I remember as a little girl, along with Total Eclipse of the heart a few years later. I must've been under 4 years lol, around 1978
Meat Loaf! 🥰 Sorry, but I'm currently in fangirl mode. He usually plays a character/a role in each of his songs. He emphazises that he's first and foremost an actor and secondly a singer. He started out on Broadway, e.g. "Hair" and "Rocky Horror Show" (Eddie and Dr. Everett Scott). He also played Eddie in the movie "Rocky Horror Picture Show". He even played Shakespeare on stage. You can watch him in about 60 movies. I recommend "Paradise by the dashboard light" if you want to react to another Meat Loaf song.
Great reaction video, thank you for sharing! You're right, it is a lot to take in on the first viewing and you did a grand job of it. Only because you asked, here are some background facts!
The album was produced by Todd Rundgren, who did the guitar-motorcycle noise leading into the instrumental halfway through the song on his guitar in one take.
The composer Jim Steinman (seen sync-playing at the piano in this video) was inspired by songs like "Leader of the Pack" and "Tell Laura I Love Her" to write the ultimate motorcycle crash song.
That's Roy Bittan (piano) and Max Weinberg (drums) from Bruce Springsteen's E-Street Band that you can hear playing on the audio track. Rory Dodd and Karla DeVito are the backing singers, and the harmonies in the backing vocals have Rundgren's fingerprints all over them.
As for Meat Loaf, yes, he's 73 now. Always gave 150% of himself at every live performance, so much so that he'd need oxygen after every concert.
"Bat" is definitely a love it or hate it song, so glad you enjoyed this!
on the album is was ellen foley who sang the female parts... karla toured with meat and appears in the videos lip syncing ellens parts... ellen foley was on the original airings of the show NIGHT COURT as one of the attorneys...
Thank you for alot of information. Happy you added Todd Rundgren. Todds finger prints are all over that album.
If it wasn't for Todd Rundgren The 1st album would never have made it. Todd Rundgren & MEAT turned out to be Truly Good People. Thanks👍
Bat out of hell. My first album. Every song is a hit.
It's called Rock Opera. He had so many hits that stayed at the top. Just be glad you started this journey. You won't regret it. He's also an actor - Fight Club, Rocky Horror Picture Show. He had a very traumatic real life, but God gifted him with that incredible voice.
You want to react, do Paradise by the Dashboard Light. LOL
What a timeless ERA it was, when rock was highly musical and EPIC! Absolutely MASTERCLASS!
God I can’t stop crying, RIP big man, you sang with all your soul
He was and still is one of the greatest performers of all time .
His vocal range is awsome.
To call this a motorcycle crash song, is a terrible injustice, I would almost say insult, this is a beautiful, masterful, mesmerizing, i would almost say perfect, power ballad.
If you get a chance to watch any of his concerts, it's a joy watching the character he plays. RIP MEAT LOAF peace and love y'all 🤟
I believe Todd Rundgren made the sounds of the motorcycle on his guitar. Check me on that.
This was my Mom's favourite song so we played it at her funeral service. Awesome! 😎
Every song on this album was a hit, I believe. If not a hit, they each got mainstream terrestrial radio play and is considered a classic. It’s Born to Run-level perfect.
You just witnessed one of the single greatest live performers to ever live!
Many many hit songs research is golden!
_Hello Bradley, and thanks for your feedback! 1st time reactions and the element of surprise is even more golden. IMHO, I think research takes away that element. I know one thing... after this performance I'll definitely be looking at more of his work!_
Meat Loaf has sold over 80 Million albums.
First heard this in 77 on radio shack nova pro 10 headphones. Epic , no other words.
I had this on 8-track. Steinman and Rundgren were genius here on this project.
I feel as if a part of my youth died with the passing of this wonderful entertainer and genuine human being. Marvin Lee Aday (Michael) AKA Meatloaf your musical performances will live on! Thanks for the memories.
Amazing talent, amazing energy, truly special and one of a kind, I forgot how much I loved meatloaf, beautiful, such an amazing performer, truly a gift he had, and extremely unique, he was one of kind, the whole band was talented, truly one of the greats,
This one is awsome, hes so good
Jim Steinman wrote the entire operatic album and recruited Meatloaf for the vocals. When every record label declined the project, Steinman went to the very prolific Todd Rundgren, who believed in the album and financed it out of his own pocket. The great Ellen Foley was brought in for lead female vocalist.
All of Todd’s band Utopia (Todd, Roger Powell, Kasim Sultan and Willie Wilcox) played on the album in studio with additional piano by Steinman. Everyone contributed numerous background vocals.
Todd engineered and produced the album, while at the same time producing not one but two albums of his own that would come out that year: The Hermit Of Mink Hollow and Adventures In Utopia. All and all, 1978 a banner year for Todd and his financial investment in the project paid off in spades.
There was some drama because in the videos we see Carla DeVito, who was in the touring band, passionately belting out songs in Ellen Foley’s voice. When the videos came out, Ellen was offended and Carla was mortified. She thought the video would be live and had no idea they were going to overlay the album track over the video.
If I recall, the album received some unfair and negative reviews and was dismissed as ridiculous rock opera. One critic flat out called the lead song a rip-off of Springsteen’s Jungle Land, and yes, you can hear it. But all in all, the album charted several hits and remains a crowd favorite 43 years later.
Almost every song on this album charted and STILL get airplay. He was in Rocky Horror Picture Show, too. He did theater, Hair was his big one.
This album came out my junior year of high school. It's great to see more people introduced to this classic LP.
I've watched this video of Bat out of Hell dozens of times. Meat was such a talent. The whole package.
Bat out of Hell album is nearly 50 years old. Released 1977. Still on the list of top 20 albums sold and it still sells 10s of thousands each year. I was so lucky to see him at his last concert ever. The BEST rock album, right up there with Pink Floyd.
Who knew? Everyone but you it seems. You’ve got about 10 more to check out and be blown away by.
Meat had an 8 octave range voice and amazing vocal control. You can see the man inhaling air to nail that final note.
if this had you taken aback... paradise by the dashboard light should be next meat loaf reaction
It’s all about story telling. BooH is the end of a life then the rest of the album does from birth upwards. The lyrics are amazing
Every single track on his first album Bat out of Hell is a was a hit song! This album sold 45 million copies back in the late seventies and early eighties! And since then still sells 200,000 albums!
His live performance of Objects In The Rear View Mirror is GOLD, live performances of I'd Lie For You and Couldn't Have Said It Better Myself with Patti Russo are EPIC. They were a powerhouse duet. They are LEGEND.
Every song released off of BOOH was a hit, but also every song on BOOH could have been a hit if released
The Guy on that Piano is Jimmy Steinman who wrote most of Meatloafs songs.
He really acts like that on stage, theatrical and I loved it.
Bat Out of Hell was Meat Loaf's debut album. It remains the 4 th largest selling album of all time behind M.Jackson, W.Houston and AC/DC. In 1977 when it came out, we didn’t have headphones or acoustics, we listened to the entire albums in our bedrooms. Meat Loaf had a theatrical background (He was the original “Eddie” in both the stage and movie version of the Rocky Horror Picture Show). At 17 he blew us away live when we saw the BOoH tour for this album at Maple Leaf Gardens. RIP Legend!
Todd Rundgren played the Motor bike sound effect on his guitar. If you listen closely it turns into the lead.
The song writer Jim Steinman ( who just died this week ) is playing the piano. Todd Rundgren is the guy singer you see. Carla Devito is the lady. Todd did the motorcycle riffs in the song on guitar. This is off one of the best selling albums of all time. And more people buy it every day.
Todd is not in the video. Todd and Utopia did perform the album live briefly before the touring band seen here was up and running.
No hate at all! He is definitely not your typical rock artist and goes all out. Some of his stuff can be a bit overwhelming but it’s still amazing! He is 73 years old. His Bat Out of Hell album has been turned into a full on Broadway Production. I would love to see it!
That's REAL Singing.
Rock opera w a theatrical background. Meatloaf is just the singer. His Bat out of Hell Album is one of the biggest selling albums of all time! Maybe 3rd all time, over 40 million albums.
Most of his songs are like this, they are not radio friendly. Many songs are 9 to 12mins on the album. Even songs you know are cut down versions.
Plz try "Objects in the Rear view mirror may appear closer than they are" the live version! Incredible story telling...off of his second album Bat out of Hell, Back into Hell.
Seeing him perform live will give you an idea why he was so loved!
In an interview Meat said that the original version of "Pardise by the dashboard light" was 27 Minutes long! He told Jim Steinman that he loved it, but it had to be shortened because it wouldn't fit on a record. The shortened version is 12 Minutes.
perhaps not radio friendly these days....but when that album released , 4or 5 of those songs were in regular rotation for years...paradise,,,bat outta hell, you took the words right out of my mouth....,two out of three ain't bad...
He did his second and third (at least) albums in Germany, without Jim Steinman, the composer of Bat Out Of Hell. After over a decade they reunited and did Back Into Hell.
@@davidweihe6052 Was that the period with Frank Farian?
@@Lamm139 I only noticed the Peter Weihe on there (for obvious reasons) as lead guitar.
The Whole of Bat out of Hell album was a hit,it kept re entering the charts on numerous occasions.
“Not many hit songs...” mwahahaha! Enjoy your dive! I was 4 or 5 years old when I became obsessed with Meatloaf! My cousins & I loved this album. There are few albums so good from start to finish.
I grew up listening toMear Loaf ,his a great actor and greatest performer. His greatest , theatrical performer.
Dude! This is theater, performance, power, heart and soul. There is no deep back story, sit back, enjoy and appreciate the storyteller.
All the Meatloaf fans? Lol That’s an entire generation!
One of the greatest albums of teen angst ever created.
The songs MeatLoaf sang were wrote by Jim Steinman to be used in a stage musical before any Albums were even created featuring the music, producers thought that the music would not work on stage but now a hit musical called Bat out of Hell the musical has been created and is very popular
The motorcycle noises in the song were done with a guitar and not a motorcycle. Amazing. Meat Loaf is a legend and has lots of great hit songs.
Todd Rundgren' did the motorcycle sounds with his guitar
And the song is about a motorcycle crash standing in for a relationship that you keep coming crawling back to as disastrous and incredible as it is.
your still young and one day when your older you'll realise this is one of the best compositions ever, thats a good thing : )
This is what you get when you CROSS THEATER with ROcK and ROLL!!!! MEATLOAF......don't fight it, just enjoy the ride!!!!
RIP Meat Loaf passed away last night.
We don't all find greatness, but sometimes greatness finds us.
Well, if you WANT to get your mind blown - Watch his video for "Paradise by the Dashboard Light." All of the weirdness plus 3 or 4 distinct musical styles (and Yogi Berra, I believe) all wrapped up in one spectacular song. Enjoy!
The Yankees player you were thinking about is Phil "Scooter " Rizzuto because that is him in the video
@@edwardcook826 Thanks!

edit: Done and done. Glad you liked it. Best react to that one I've seen!
sometimes a song is just a song.
it doesnt have to be a re-telling of a true story.
"His name is Robert Paulson" If you've seen Fight Club you've seen Meatloaf.
Greatest album ever made
Meatloaf was kind of minor - only 80 million records sold - so yeah, just one of the top selling artists of all time (grin) [and no, I don't hate that you didn't know about Meatloaf - there are many groups I hardly know about which were big] Now it happens I never much listened to Meatloaf myself - I'm more a Uriah Heep sort of guy - but I can tell you, if you are into the right area of music then you will know Meatloaf even if it isn't to your taste.
The vehicle crash song was a popular sub genre at one time in rock and roll/teen music. See also Dead Man’s Curve, Teen Angel, Leader Of The Pack, and most horrifyingly, Tell Laura I Love Her.
MeatLoaf had 12 albums not including the live and the compilation disks and quite a few of the songs on them were hit records certified Diamond, Platinum, Gold and Silver
Certified 14 times platinum. They had hits.
Objects in the rear view mirror , another great song of his
Meatloaf was a great and down to earth person awesome stage presence and all around great singer
Jim Steinman was a genius, wrote all of meatloafs songs including total eclipse of the heart by Bonnie Tyler Read em and Weep which Barry Manilow did among some. Meatloaf was a huge actor going way back to the 70s including the Rocky horror picture show to Black Dog with Patrick Swayze. The debut album Bat out of Hell is I. The top 5 all time Best sellers selling over 40 million and still sells 200,000 a year to this day. Jim and Meatloaf had a special bond and Meatloaf became the songs. His voice his presence will be missed. Grew up to the soundtrack in the 70s. One of a kind
I just stumbled on your reaction, and I had to say that I became a fan of Meatloaf back inmy younger days about the time Bat out of hell came out.. and at one point had all his albums. The greatest love song ever written according to Meatloaf is For Crying out Loud. Jim Steinman was one of the truue greats in writing such hits like this. Great reaction BTW. ( Ireland says hi ;) )
Energy and emotion. Lol. Gotta love it.
