The future of post-millenium jazz is safe...... Glasper, Esperanza, Gretchen, Gregory, and Tal amidst many others evolve the art form superbly. Seems like only yesterday Roy Hargrove was a newbie. How time flies. Must "Cherish The Day."
i love the original, i cant disrespect sade like that but Lalah sends chills down the soul. So I give respect to this song on a different level and appreciate this unique interpretation
I was going to post something similar. This version sent chills down my spine and soul. It's truly magical and beautiful! Can't compare both versions because they are totally different from each other. Love both of them.
She is an exceptional and powerful artist. She has her father’s amazing tone and phrasing. What moves through the DNA is truly spiritual. She can sing a polyphonic, so she’s a superhero vocally.
Wow. Real-deal artists, ladies and gentlemen. Real singers. Real musicians. Reallly fine and interesting arrangements, full of respect for the original material, and innovation that they bring to the table. High craft developed through so much hard work. You can't fake such excellence. All hail Mizz Hathaway and Mister Glasper, and the brilliant people they surround themselves with!
This is musicianship and award show will not recognize true talent. They place our music in a box that consist of 5. I need not mention them, because they are invited to every show. Black Radio and Black Radio 2 along with a list of Robert Glasper Albums; Canvas which is one of my favorites, should have won. Lalah is a true def of R&B just like her father. Just let me know when They in the 757 and I will be there. Peace to Mark H. Who is a beast on the drums. Cassy B, and Derick Hodge on the Bass! You cats be doing it! One love
Jerry Williams Reading your comment was like reading my Mind. Can't speak enough about that Canvas album. Derrick Hodges Live Today album. As a matter of fact, I only tell people I truly like about this body of work. I'm a hipster when it comes to Glasper, Hodge, Otis Brown, Kendrick Scott and 'nem
It really bothers me that this woman sang an actual chord by herself in sync with the music and the crowd didn’t loose they whole mind. They must’ve told them to be quiet because they was recording but if you gonna post a live performance, I need to live vicariously through other ppl going ham on my behalf!!!
Lalah Hathaway is out of this world amazing. OMG! smh its like if you close your eyes and listen; she will sound just like DOnny on some of the runs she do. smh
Google must have heard me talking about Robert Glasper because, how did this end up in my "recommended?" I have this album and this is the ONLY time I have ever heard ANYONE attempt a Sade song and kill it! So good
One of the undisputed Queens of Soul /Jazz..Blessed by God with a supremely gifted talented vocals this is what separates her from the rest..only a few possess this Jill Scott, Jennifer Hudson to name a few..
I just love this... and Robert Glasper keyboarding is so on point... THIS WHOLE PIECE IS SUPURB...EXTRODINARY MUSICIANS THE SAX AND DRUMMER... CUTTN UP...I listened to this 4 times already
I cherish this day, I hear this version of another beautiful singer's song (Sade, who sings like gentle running water). Perfect live roots band as well. That sax vocal... I agree with the comment Lalah doesn't need that extra reverb/delay (it lifts her tops though, ethereal) - but her low register carries through it - and its what you get for live engineering, extra boom coming out of the PA, so ambient. Thanks Lalah, band, Robert. Wow... Heart Chakra.
Holy cow how the Fu*k did i miss this? Being a True SADE fan and all. Been a SADE fan since 85, never missed a tour. Will travel for SADE. I've played a lil bit of Mr. Glasper but now i'm a fan. Gonna visit and listen to his whole catalog of music. We thank you and Lalah for this beautiful rendition.
I can’t believe this song is 10 years old and I’m just now hearing this beautiful song by Robert Glasper and the beautiful songstress Laila Hathaway 🙏🏾❤️🔥👑🔥🔥👑
Buff, mucha tela... buenísimos! I´m so hooked on this incredible song... At 6:29 her father´s heredity can be clearly apreciated. DH, the male most beatiful voice in this world... What a pity he passed away too soon... I can imagine him among the audience flowing along his daughter´s artistry.
Song is dope but I'm missing the Chris Dave Factor. Saw them in Houston @ The Grove and they killed it. Colenburg sounded like his meter was set to 208 on here
Rest in Peace Casey.. Thank you for inspiring and blessing us through your amazing gift🎉
I swear, Lalah could put out an album of her singing the words of the back of a Capn' Crunch box and I would buy it....
Lol... I know, right?
yes, me too! That girl can blow!
Ronald L. E. Coleman Facts
the first simple run gives me chills every time
Ronald L. E. Coleman lol
Robert Glasper is our modern day Quincy Jones. An exceptional collaboration with Lalah Hathaway's vocals . Musicianship is unparalleled.
Except Glasper is married to a BLACK Woman
Periodt!
But BETTER… Glasper🤍
Robert Glasper is the Herbie Hancock for the next generation…Musicianship. Thank You R.G.
That damned Bass us so fine I want to scream .
I am like 11 years late, BUT this type of music will never get old. I LOVE A "LIVE" BAND and a "SENSATIONAL" vocalist.
Absolutely, Since Covid only done two gigs, Steven Wilson and Crash Test Dummies both brilliant in their own way!
Robert Glasper and Lalah Hathaway always a winning team.
VL B Lalah and Marcus Miller as well!!!!
The future of post-millenium jazz is safe...... Glasper, Esperanza, Gretchen, Gregory, and Tal amidst many others evolve the art form superbly. Seems like only yesterday Roy Hargrove was a newbie. How time flies. Must "Cherish The Day."
agreed!
I'd add Lizz Wright and Laura Mvula to your distinguished list.
Spot on!
yes yes yes and yes sir. totally agree.
If I were new to jazz, who would you recommend I listen to next out those you’ve mentioned?
Her voice is healing, what a gift!
I just said this today🫠
i love the original, i cant disrespect sade like that but Lalah sends chills down the soul. So I give respect to this song on a different level and appreciate this unique interpretation

Only Lalah could do this. The recorded track brought me here...it is so good.
I like how she always sings with her eyes open, connecting with the audience and get her notes out without closing them.🌹 IT'S
NOT FORCED.
It's a skill most folks dont have and it shows her confidence level to look out on the audience and not get distracted
She is an exceptional and powerful artist. She has her father’s amazing tone and phrasing. What moves through the DNA is truly spiritual.
She can sing a polyphonic, so she’s a superhero vocally.
@@kisslena I felt your comment. Her father is my favorite male vocalist...the inflection in her voice is just like her father's.
I can’t wait to hear Lalah Hathaway’s beautiful voice when she sings, @@kevintoney6413.
She definitely IS her Father's Daughter! !! WOW!!!
The incomparable Donnie Hathaway.....yes suh!!
It's incredible when she sings one of her dad's songs u often forget which one if which. Apple didn't fall far. Amazing to have her on earth 🌍
TRULY DONNY’S BABY!!
Lalah's voice is HEAVENLY!!!!!

Man, this is it. Musicianship at its peak. Grab a set of good headphones, a mellow joint and set sail in this one. Nice.
Nicely put. I second that comment.
Having a 420 moment while jammin to this on 2July2018.
JBL J55s on now. EPIC!!!

That's Lalah Harmonizing WITH HERSELF!!! ..She is such a vocal dynamo!
Her signature polyphonic sound ❤
Like her Father...❤
Lalah’s singing puts me in a meditation 🧘🏾♀️. She’s hypnotic. What a gift! 💝
That’s the point of witchcraft..
This is music! Lalah is keeping her dads legacy alive! (8:13) harmony with her solo voice!! sick!!! Glasper and the band are totally grooving out!
I was there to witness this wonderful collaboration. I cherish that day!
Did anyone catch that note she hit in 3 part harmony @ about the 8 min Mark? Her voice is other worldly.
I heard it man. How???......that was magical!!!
It really bothers me that this woman sang an actual chord by herself in sync with the music and the crowd didn’t loose they whole mind. They must’ve told them to be quiet because they was recording but if you gonna post a live performance, I need to live vicariously through other ppl going ham on my behalf!!!
You mean when she answered the piano melody. Yeah that was unbelievable.
All that talent on one stage....the miracles of life. smh

Saw this live. Amazing experience.
8:11 though...blown to bits! She, him, them...Masterpiece!
Her lower register is ridiculous!
She sounds demonic when she does that SCREECHING SOUND!!!
Hers "Lows" go down DEEP but very well measured and felt in the soul ...reminds me of CHAKA KHAN in that regard ...(and Donny!).
I agree
