    That’s so nice that you gave medals to the Swedish crew 30 years later. Meeting your rescue team is part of completing the story. As an aviator I really appreciate this decision making and bravery under pressure. Well done.

    Reason why we haven't built new sr71 is because we have satellites now which are far more effective than a hypersonic plane, and btw modern s400 and anti aircraft stations can easily shoot down sr71

      Yeah idk what Bob was trying to say. I think he’s mentally stuck in a bygone era.

    The SR71 is an unarmed museum machine used for sightseeing flights over countries with insufficiently developed defenses.

      Actually it was mostly used to fly on the periphery of the Soviet Union and China which it did very successfully. It was immune Soviet and Chinese interceptors. It was also immune to the SA-2 SAM and although the SA 5 was a threat performance-wise they could disable it with ECM.
      They also overflew the Middle East and Libya, who had SA-5 and were unharmed.
      It was never shot down because no country could shoot it down, and they tried.

      @@rdubb77 After the downing of U2 with Powers, a similar flight was not repeated. There is no aircraft for such a purpose.

      @rdubb77 6 месяцев назад

      @@milanbaran7291 it wasn’t repeated because we promised Kruschev we wouldn’t overfly the Soviet Union. The A-12 could have easily overflew the Soviet Union in 1962 as it was invulnerable to the SA-2 and all Migs but it was a good idea to keep our word.

    • @milanbaran7291

      @@rdubb77 The reason was new anti-aircraft missiles.

    • @rdubb77
      @rdubb77 6 месяцев назад

      @@milanbaran7291 nope. As I mentioned the SR was invulnerable to the SA-2 which was the primary SAM for the 60s and 70s. This was tested over Vietnam where the SR overflew many times and the NVA had those SAMs. Not a single SR was shot down.
      The SA 5 introduced in the 70s was a threat but it could be neutralized by the ECM system, since an SR had actually listened in to their guidance signals and copied it and sent it back to the missle to confuse it.
      Hence the only reason why we didn’t overfly China or USSR was political.
      You also don’t seem to understand that there was no reason to overfly Russia or China: at 12 miles from their border at 80000 feet you can see hundreds of miles into the country.
      Please stop debating me you don’t know what you’re taking about . Take the loss and move on.
