Super Monkey Ball 2 - Unused/Beta Stages
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 12 сен 2024
- This video show some of the more interesting debug stages in SMB2. There's a lot more debug stages than this but most of those are either the standard square ''glitch floor'' or are stages that already appear in the game.
2:56 Oh look, a reasonable version of Arthropod that isn't a million times harder than it should be.
0:08 It's actually possible to explore this level but you need to delete the level's .tpl to make it run properly. The reason why this crash happens is that the level's .gma and .tpl (model and texture files respectively) combined go over 2 MB, which is the maximum that can fit into the game. Upon landing, the .lz (the collision information) causes the game to run out of memory and hang
I almost cracked when i heard that long and loud beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep
0:14
Is THAT how censorship sounds in the Super Monkey Ball universe? XD
Ouch! My ears.
Anyone else kinda find unused stages kinda unnerving? I don't know how to explain it.
Theres a section in monkey target where if you look backwards you see an infinite ocean. I think that is kinda unnerving too
Tbf I think super monkey ball as a whole is very surreal. The huge backgrounds combined with the floating abstract architecture is the main reason for me
0:11 Were any of us truly ready for this?
This actually scared the shit out of me. LMAO.
And it goes like this “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA”
Probably some sort of overflow exception. Just from the overview shot we got, that level is absolutely massive and littered with objects of all kinds, Including lots of those white squares that denote invalid or missing objects. I bet it was some dev's paste bin for copying complex assets from.
Bahahaha that's what hell is like
2:09 top 10 saddest anime betrayals
0:12
READY?
"Let's- NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN"
Is this the super monkey ball equivalent to sleep paralysis?
Nice pfp
0:12
AiAi was not ready
AGREE.
0:09 Why didn't Dr bad boon use this world to stop the monkeys?
*sigh*
This franchise really needs to make a comeback!
The versions nowadays aren't as creative. I see Deluxe as the last best one.
Idk, but I think it has something to do with AmusementVision not being a part if the franchuse anymore...
Somebody really needs to do some research and find out what's up!
ig it'll be me!
Amusement Vision merged with SEGA so Deluxe wasn't the last one they made.
Forreal?! I didn't know that!
But have you seen or played the games after Deluxe?
I can't be the only one that thinks the games aren't what they used to be.
+Daijon Banks
You got a MAJOR point there. Amusemwnt vision was an amazing addition to these games that existed in the past. I & most of the sega fans must have loved the decoration that they made in SMB 1,2 & DELUXE.
I mean...the ones that exist NOW are okay but sometimes even harder than the others. Adding jumping in BANANA BLITZ was alright and absolutely useful.
Imagine that in a SMB game that sega AND AV would make, there would be jumping even MORE stages and more party games....maybe not the "more stages" part because there was PLENTY in SMB D.
And since its from sega and made for the NINTENDO, youd totally expect to see being kid freindly with all the bright colors and more joyful charachters but I absolutely LOVED how in the AV games they made the atmosphere a lot more realistic and I pray to lord jesus in the heavens above that it will happen again.
Daijon Banks I have step and roll, and I don't have a wii fit.....
#hardcoreasballs
Not to necro a dead comment thread buuuut.... Banana Mania, remastering 1&2 (and Deluxe's added stages) is a pretty good start to a series comeback I'd say.

0:14 ah yes my favorite soundtrack in the game
I'm really curious about what that last stage was originally gonna be used for, like maybe there was some kind of planned adventure mode in the works
2:15 This stage IS used, but not playable. If you wait at the title screen, this is the stage used for the controls explanation.
Seeing some of these gigantic stages as well as rolling around through the cutscene backgrounds makes me really wish we got a good Monkey Ball adventure game
9:25 excuse me _what_

Host: Ok are you Ready?
Me: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Occasionally, I had dreams of bizarre stages in this game, so it was a real treat to see this video. It's really interesting to see the handful of them that didn't make it to the final product.
I wish I had dreams about bizarre Super Monkey Ball stages, too.
Mariostar75 It's kind of annoying how dreams happen randomly and can't be sustained very well. Dreams of games can be really fun, they can bring new vision to something that you've seen everything of. From time to time, I've also dreamed about other games like Tetris DX, Kirby, and even Darius.
"It's kind of annoying how dreams happen randomly and can't be sustained very well. Dreams of games can be really fun, they can bring new vision to something that you've seen everything of."
Wow, I guess you have the same opinions on dreams I have!
Fun fact: I am working on a Pokémon platformer fan-game called Eevee Land, and I wish I could have dreams about it so I can potentially see what my project could become in the future.
Mariostar75 Just last night, I dreamed about Dark Forces II, where Kyle was fighting stormtroopers with lightsabers. Heh.
Kyle? Are you talking about Kylo Ren?
That final level was crazy. Would’ve loved to see something like that in game. Of course the time would have to be huge for it.
0:11 Ready? Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!!!!
1:58 I really like the concept for this level. Maybe it would've made more sense to keep the middle where it's at but the two sides further back.
5:50 is the coolest unused stage in any game ever
i dont remember this but i guess i already commented something about this exact stage on this exact video at the same exact time 3 fucking years ago
15:56 Cut adventure-type stage? Or just an excessive obstacle course for testing?
Could also be for monkey race
I love how most of these test stages start on a custom debug ramp with all the speed switches. A lot of these are just the 3D backgrounds downscaled, which is interesting.
That thumbnail changed
I still wanna know what the stage at 16:04 was intended for. Maybe it was just the result of a level designer getting bored and wanting to make a really fun test level?
I totally haven't done this before.
Most likely a idea for a overworld. It doesn't seem to be an ordinary test level in my eyes.
The idea probably got scraped in the mid-late development of the game. Which this idea might have inspired the creation of Monkey Ball Adventure.
MandL27 It's probably the beta story mode world layout.
What do you mean?
It might be a removed minigame or unused overworld, but i struggle to see how it would work as one, theres no scenery! Another possibility is they were trying to see how far they could take a level, or just a test for how much the engine could handle
2:09
Ready?. . . FALL!!
WTH???
I love how the sets and skyboxes are there own levels.
2:57: if only it were that easy
My favourite level is definitely the one at 0:13
5:11 hardest level ever
5:48 Now that's aesthetic.
13:20: does anyone else play monkey dog fight just to explore dr.bad boon's lair?
Some of these look like they could have been finished with the right texture mapping and background also at 13:22 why the fuck?????
4:28 Dizzy System on steroids!
beta dizzy system
16:00 Why's the timer frozen?
0:12 I'm possibly thinking it's a test map?
Oh yeah, and why does the level freeze? The files combined make more than 2 MB, but the Gamecube can only hold 2 MB. Once the monkey lands, the game freezes. There is a solution however, and that is deleting its texture file.
ruclips.net/video/KBqIkErtJEk/видео.html
The level runs fine on dolphin
Did anyone else notice that the monkey was going 30 miles per hour
@@TheLetterT511 Probably a DevKit.
I think the last one may be some kind of Hub that was scrapped during development? It would have been interesting.
As an aspiring game designer, that final debug level is beautiful. A test site for all the different elements of the game, a programmer's playground... I wonder if they considered the physics engine complete once they were able to correctly play through that gauntlet of a stage?
Stupid
James Chapman
i want to know what your calling stupid.
0:14 OMG THAT GAME FREEZE
9:27 How the heck did that happen?
@John Mandia If you turn on show collision you can see the death barrier is right before the goal, thats why that happends
9:27
READY? *UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU*
Some of these give the impression there was going to be a 2 player race mode. The ones around 12:00
That's in the game as one of the party games.
0:06 did anyone else notice the monkey going 999MPH?
Confused why there's so many dislikes
1:13 appears in the game tho it's probably an early version
0:10 could have been either
A) A glitch stage
B) A texture testing stage
C) A stage from the original Monkey Ball with the textures gone and used as a test level.
6:31 uses the planned new goal model.
My guess is B, but it's a Test Stage for many things, such as a Font test and an Object test.
Its none of those. Its an ACTUAL REAL test level.
22:35 Ayyyyyyy curvy bridge!
2:16 Heyyyy! This the Stage that was seen in one of the Demo Videos.
Nicodapeek2
I do recall that now! Wonder why they took it out. Likely cause it just demonstrates what the objects do.
Those levels containing the areas for the cutscenes makes a theory that maybe the cutscenes for the story mode are in game cutscenes?
SoniMarSponge 53 yeah, making them in game makes a lot more sense than prerendering them, considering it was a GameCube game as well
They are mostly in-game
0:12 The Gamecube froze upon touching the ground. XD
That happens no matter what. The game will always freeze upon touching the ground, on a real Gamecube or Dolphin.
I wonder if the A button was used as a placeholder for switches.
Yeah Probably.
Fun Fact: The A Button model is still used if you wait on the title screen long enough
0:10 Phone buzz

Finally got around to fixing the title. I referred to these as ''Debug'' stages because you can only access them with the debug menu action replay code. I have a feeling the previous title may have mislead some people judging by the poor retention this video has(the average person watches this video for only 4 minutes before clicking away).
First of all, amazing work on the video! Watched the whole thing and enjoyed it to the very end :D Secondly, I'm interested in doing this myself. what sort of hacking device do you use, and where can I purchase one? Please answer, it would mean a lot to me :D
the stage at 226 technically is used for the tutorial
+Zachary Perl (Anankos the Silent Dragon) This comment... This is what I was going to say. xD
+scrap561 There's someway, somehow that I can make my levels? Hack or something? (And how can I see all of those stages in my ps2?)
that last map is like almost all the maps combined into one
Some of these are used in deluxe :D
2:08 Isn't that used in the cutscenes?
Some of these almost seem like some sort of hub world for story mode, where instead of just selecting a level from a menu, you have an ingame hub and you just roll to the level you want.
0:11 - 0:16 Ready? AAAAA-
5:10 how far in the ocean did you go?
I love the way this dude Aiai dances
Me: *Hacks Giant Computer*
Giant Computer: 0:13
This is interesting... Most of these stages look like mock versions of actual stages... I can make out UFO, Dizzy system, Strata, Spasmodic is hidden in there, all of the world 3 levels, Flat Maze, 8 Bracelets, Post- Modern, Jump Machine, Domino, Warp, Dynamic Maze, and some other levels... Very strange... I wonder how these were played?
i'm thinking a lot of them are just proof of concepts
Serial Jump?
URL...
Arthropods! Also, theres no gaps between the stage.
Most of them were Beta versions
The level seen in 0:13 mark crashes due to missing texture - on dolphin emulator you can skip all the invalid writes/reads by holding enter. After a while the game works afterwards.
It might be the game's work of trying to fix the corruptions, or it's just a glitch.
Actually, it crashes because the gma and tpl flow over 2MB. The gma, tpl, and lz cannot flow over 2MB collectively, which causes the crash on 186.
At 5:10, where would this take place? I can hear the credits theme, or what I assume to be the credits theme, but I have nearly zero clue about the area; all I can assume is when you're in the sea, but even then, I don't know for sure.
That's the Padding Floor. SMB2 has a ton of internal "slots" for various stages. Most of them are for regular gameplay stages, and others are used to store areas for cutscenes or party games and the like. Even with those, there are still slots that aren't used for anything, so those slots instead reference Padding Floors like the one you pointed out and the one before it.
Most Padding Floors have the same layout (square with the goal,) but they can have different environments. The first one had asteroids, while the second one had an ocean surface above it and a water reflection on the level. It's not like that on purpose, that level simply happens to be in water and use that music track.
The wiki explains it with more detail. supermonkeyball.fandom.com/wiki/Padding_Floor
@@pastarhythm2762 Yo, that's really interesting; however, seeing what you mentioned in the first half, could new worlds, heck, areas even, be added, seeing as you mentioned that some slots are unused?
@@niche8137 I don't know how the game handles environments, so I have no clue there. In terms of levels, though, I don't see why a modder couldn't make their own map and assign one of those unused stage IDs to it! I have a feeling it's already been done, as a matter of fact-- There's a mod that ports the SMB1 and Deluxe stages into SMB2, which probably took advantage of the leftover stage IDs to fit all of those stages in there. I'm sure it's not that simple and there would be some complications, but I bet it's doable.
@@pastarhythm2762 What I'm assuming is that, while they're still unused IDs, the game'll automatically cut out levels/stages when said IDs are used; maybe they were used as a failsafe of the pre-existing worlds, of sorts? I don't mean that as a way to ignore what you said, as what was originally there is still something entirely unique, but maybe it's because it finds the pre-existing worlds in the files?
15:55 Is this an unused master stage?
Lloyd Johannessen Jk? How would anyone have enough time to complete it given the scale?
13:39 Looking at the right I noticed a SEGA arcade board at the right? Which one is it? It looks similar to the one in Sonic Spinball in the third level.
It may be the NAOMI since monkey ball started on naomi, but it could also be the hikaru or chihiro
I have a few questions for these debug stages as i'm trying to get them for myself.
1. Are you able to get these debug stages on the Xbox for Super Monkey Ball Deluxe?
2. Did you use Action Replay to get these debug stages?
1. It is possible to access debug stages in deluxe with a hacked Xbox.
2. Yes, I used a code to access them from the debug menu.
Ok thanks
Also one more thing. What do you mean by Hacked Xbox
@@jake19673 One with a custom bootloader (my guess)
Probably a homebrewed Xbox, usually hacked via the Splintercell method.
6:00 What's that? It looks amazing...
James Carson The stage v:
I'd love to see more videos of debug like this...
This is trippy as hell
I remember finding a lot of these back in 2005 when I got my hands on an AR for GameCube. Fun days lol
5:49, I would go on the "Mad Rings" part if I wanted to.
Dylan Foster mad rings > warp
The entirety of 13:46 is absolutely hilarious
4:55 I thought those were creepy doll heads but then i looked closer and saw they were meteors
I wonder if some of these were finished in Deluxe/Adventure? Obviously they were remaking the Nintendo stage but didn't get around to it.
Don't mind us, we're just putting this apocalyptic bunker level in there...
Looks like Dr. Bad-Boon's hideout from one of the Story Mode cutscenes.
15:30 the background looks like the beginning level from sonic unleashed
Some levels are used with different textures and skyboxes in Master, Extra and Expert mode, mostly the bonus levels. But they have no bananas.
Which makes them go in this.
0:13 Let's EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
+SuperJustinChannel BUDINDOW
Lets G (*crash*)
by seeing this i spotted some things that might have ben cut. first off dr bad boons lab in the 5th world might have been playable and so could his airship. the game might've have hub worlds even.
Sorry, I just noticed you had the word "spotted" in your comment, and you profile pic is a...XD
You know, some of the open world stages would have been better in a non-level based game. I was astonished at some of the bigger stages. If a smb game was made with stages like those and it had a open world feel, I would have LOVED it.
DaWookiee Cookiee I've never played it, so I don't know how good it is, but there is a game called Super Monkey Ball Adventure that is open world
LordFrood It's really bad. :(
0:14 freaking scared me. Forget Freddy Fazbear
5:10 anyone know what that song comes from and where I can find it
One of the party games I think..
the soccer minigame
You absolute hero.
Lot more fun could be done on a few of the stages
Level 186.
On the Dolphin Emulator.
I have a good feeling that some of these were stages left in the game for Super Monkey Ball Deluxe. Notice the similar design in some of the stages, going up in difficulty?
Also 13:40 this is the Monkey Dogfight stage, for example, a minigame that only existed in Deluxe. You can tell due to the more structural design and collision featured on everything, so you could crash into them.
mas games38 As someone who has played super monkey ball all their life, i can guarantee that monkey dogfight was in SMB 2. I especially remember it because there was a glitch on that stage where it you flew into one of the ridges on the bottom, you could fly out of the map, however, they fixed it when they released deluxe.
mas games38 And also, i don't see any stages in here that ended up in deluxe either, they were either in the really late levels of smb 1 or 2, or they were scrapped.
Scoreless Pine Oh I thought it was an exclusive.
Yes but I think they were probably originally going to be in Deluxe.
***** Yeah, but it wouldn't have collision in story mode/regular levels.
masgames38 Actually, the backgrounds of levels DO have collisions in normal story and challenge mode. For example on the ocean levels, it is possible to bounce off of the wall near the player provided the level's death barrier is far enough away.
I know I'm late, but isn't there a way on certain emulators to force maps to load without textures like in the second clip?
Holy crap...the amount of hidden content in this game is INSANE.
But may I make a suggestion? For those stages with multiple pathways from the start, I would recommend showing those MULTIPLE TIMES. You really didn't show us everything each stage had to offer and for as much content as there is in this game, I kinda feel cheated.
ruclips.net/video/Ii700OV_zms/видео.html watch this to get your debug stage fix.
scrap651 Thanqez joo!
Ready?
*(death)*
Ready?
(Just before the announcer says "GO", the game crashes)
HAHAHAHAHAHA Lmao
13:20 why is that even able to be played on?
My guess is that it's using the collision for the map in Monkey Dogfight.
All worlds have some collision detection in the background. However, you normally can’t land on them due to the death planes. However, there are stages that you CAN go out of bounds. This stage has no death planes, allowing you to experience all of that stage’s collision.
well now I wanna see the whale
Ah, yes, my favorite SMB2 level: "-"
That last stage at the end is...really fascinating. I'd imagine it might have been used to test the limits of their engine, all those varying slopes and obstacles and what-not. Also of interest is that silver Aiai statue, does that appear anywhere in the main game?
STAGE 1
-
0:13 LOL
This makes me want to some stages where theres the debugged stages (but are playable and less glitchy)
well basicly like a download thing and you can play them and select them (in challenge mode thingy)
If dizzy system was faster
