I ran a one shot last weekend for Magpie Games Community Play Day. It was Masks: a New Generation Generation game. SANTA was a time traveling dude from the far future who thought kids needed a little more hope. But he was being invaded by Fae and other dimensional mystical beings that he had no defense for. The Naughty and Nice lists were essentially Census/historical data on everyone. So much delightful chaos.

I love that Matt, Travis, and Liam fully zoned in on focusing down Chutney as the final antagonist. Travis started talking after stabbing Santa and they all knew it was a more interesting story because it hadn’t been told before like the standard plot.

It's super subtle, to the point it's very easily missed since others are talking way louder while they're just whispering behind Ashley, but near the end there Travis tells Matt "You have to stop me."
It's all fun and games until Santa actually dies so Travis wanted to make sure he had his moment but that it wouldn't actually lead to the death of a beloved fictional character. Shout out to Julie who was perfect in her role of "new person who can't believe this is happening".

I watched the episode after your last demystified in preparation since you said you were doing this one!
13:40 One small correction: they are not rolling advantage for any attacks or spells or anything like that. As Liam said to them whenever they asked: "the star doesn't work on violence". They do have it for resistance or anything defensive.
even though I caught the rest of the movie connections, I somehow missed that the monsters were the kids lmafo
The spinning tower is such a cool battlemap.
I usually live-post my watching on your discord so I added a whole thread for this one so I could still do so not in the regular episode channels.
    SPOILER
I thought FOR SURE that when Chutney looked at Santa and the restraints, it was going to be a classic cinema bait-and-switch where it looked like he was going to stab Santa, but he stabbed the restraints instead. But NOPE. I was so not ready for the real result.

I was just looking for this episode's Demystified yesterday! I was 12 hours too early it seems
One of the best one-shot ideas I've ever encountered, the elves actually inspired me to make a Christmas Elf warlock of Santa when my friend did a mini-campaign last holiday season. We workshopped it but she was a "winterfied" version of a Spring Eladrian Elf (I think we dubbed Cami a Holly Elf), Pact of the Tome, Santa Patron. It was really fun

Maaaan I cannot wait until these episodes get to the Mighty Nein campaign. I just watched the supposedly "painful" episodes 92-97 and loved them overall. The first dnd game I solo ran was a one shot where my characters were all Christmas Elves. Two players picked their classes, but the other three had me create their characters. We had a paladin, a warlock serving Krampus, a bard, a druid who had spent time in the Faewild, and a Barbarian. I took a lot of inspiration from Liam's one shot, including elements of the plot. It was a lot of fun to run, gave me a taste for DMing, and it led to a second installment the summer after for a "Christmas in July" installment that we didn't complete. By the end of the first adventure, the paladin and warlock got together, which was really sweet. Now I run a homebrew game for my table and I'm glad I tried these two one shots as practice. Christmas in July had the Miser brothers as enemies and a sorcerer from a later Rudolph movie as the BBEG.

I was inspired by Travis here in a recent "ancient roman gladiators" oneshot. Almost as soon as the game started I began to hint that my goal was to kill the Emperor, and it's the whole reason I was here. Finally when the arena games were in full swing, I used my last round to cross the space, misty step into the stadium box, and double-attack the Emperor.
GM later revealed that he was possibly gonna be our ally 😂. Instead, our rogue joined me and finished him off.

    3:39 - I think Marisha's character was a Strength domain cleric.
War domain is also possible; they have very similar channel divinity and domain spell options, and the same divine strike (and the same lvl17 avatar of battle). War gets a bonus action weapon attack (War Priest: wis/day uses), Strength gets a bonus proficiency and druid cantrip.
The RP flavour heavily leaned into being strong, which made me think it was likely inspired by the Strength domain.
I thought Strength domain had appeared in an early UA (Unearthed Arcana), but now all I can find is PS:A (Plane Shift: Amonket, which apparently is a magic: the gathering thing, which might be why Strength domain is so similar to war domain.)
If she'd cast Haste, that would be definitive for Strength domain spells, but she didn't. (And the fact she *didn't* cast it is maybe a sign she wasn't playing that domain.)
One piece of evidence in favour of Strength domain is that she only used Channel Divinity to add +10 to someone else's attack roll on a melee attack using Str. Not on her own Guiding Bolt (a ranged spell attack is also an attack, which is all that war's Guided Strike requires). But for flavour reasons she might have wanted to use it on weapon attacks, or didn't think of it on Guiding Bolt. And the CR cast still don't know what "attack" means in 5e rules terminology, as we saw in recent episodes of C3, so perhaps didn't realize it was usable on spells with attack rolls. (Not knowing the details of every spell is not a problem, agreed with your point in your video about that a few months ago. But not knowing the bones of the system and thus misreading rules text when they do look stuff up, that's a problem. I can comment on that vid in more detail if you're interested in discussing it.)
For a lot of the episode I was assuming she was a Paladin since she said "divine smite" early on (and Matt even responded "2d8", I guess taking her literally and giving the damage dice for paladin smite with a lvl1 slot). Each new cleric feature had me scrambling to figure out how she had access to it :P. But I'm pretty sure she actually meant "divine strike", which also gives extra damage on her melee attack. So if she made two attacks on any turn (with war cleric action + bonus, limited uses per day), I may have not taken note of that and assumed it was paladin Extra Attack.
But if she didn't make two attacks on any turn when she could have, that's probably a sign she's not War domain. (Especially in the later fights; in early fights she might just be saving long-rest resources.)
    ---
I comment on the original video 4 years ago with what I was able to reverse-engineer:
    > Classes (subclasses) and levels: They're exactly level 8 (cleric Divine Strike, but proficiency bonus only +3, not +4 at lvl9, confirmed by Taliesin's dex check not save at 2:52:35), assuming they're all the same level.
    >
    > Taliesin / Arthur: Rogue (Thief): Sneak Attack, Second Story Work 3:44:20
    > Julie / Ellory: Cleric (Life): Divine Strike doing radiant damage in an early round of the first fight.
    > Marisha / Cranberry: Paladin(?) / Cleric(?) multi-class: Divine Smite in first fight, Spiritual Weapon at 3:10:40, Toll the Dead 3:12:40, lvl3 Guiding Bolt 3:25:40.
    > It's possible Marisha mis-spoke and meant Divine Strike, and is pure Cleric (Strength), which would fit the the character theme.
    > Sam / Bunglestein: Fighter (Samurai): used Fighting Spirit at 1:18:40 during first fight. Feats: Mobile (+10 move, limit op attacks) 4:03:03
    > Matt / Klaus: Fighter (Battle Master): Riposte maneuver adding a superiority die during first fight.
    > Ashley / Nutmeg: Wizard (unknown): said out loud.
    > Travis / Chutney: Rogue (unknown): mentions Sneak Attack, uses cunning action in later fight.
    >
    >
    > [... further citations of specific things, which led me towards single-class Cleric, none of which distinguish between war vs. strength domains.]
4 years ago, I also didn't see any evidence for subclasses for Ashley wizard or Travis's rogue.
Some wizard subclasses have features that are rarely useful, but we can't assume that a class feature would have been used if one had been useful for a situation that came up. Same for War vs. Strength cleric.

Bigby's Hand (not Bigsby) is the official name of the spell in the player's handbook. (The free SRD version strips off the proper nouns, making it Arcane Hand.)
Most of the wizards who have spells named after them (like Melf and Mordenkainen) were PCs in Gary Gygax's home games in the early days of D&D.
I wonder if Bixby (the ranger companion from Liam's one-shot) was inspired by that, subconsciously or intentionally. Yeah, interesting idea if that's what you're referring to.

I thought it was obvious that my point was that it was a stereotypical voice for a Jewish character (it’s very close to characters like Mort from Family Guy), and not an implication that all Jewish people talk that way, which is obviously not true. Apologies if that was unclear in any way.
