Barbados should just expropriate the land and pay nothing for it. Mia Motley is setting the reparation discussion across the Caribbean. All the colonizers descendants are saying that nobody now is to be blamed yet they still benefit financially
So, from the Drax family point of view, their ancestors stole the land, but now the present descendants demand payment to give it up. Oh! And the present descendants continue to profit from the illegally obtained properties. That's a kin to someone today stealing your car and demanding payment from you to return it to your possession. Increase the taxes on the properties. And in addition, make it so complicated and difficult to sell to a new owner as an investment.
To claim that the sins of his ancestors should not be taken into account today exemplifies the acknowledgement myopic dissonance exercised in obfuscation of the generational wealth accrued as a direct result of the 0:13 atrocities inflicted upon the ancestry of, not only the Bajan peoples yet still the peoples of the Caribbean in general as the empire stretched out within the region, that has yet to restituted. Thus, claims of denial those aloof today should not be lauded with the burden of reparation are futile, for that is exemplary of asserting those who were systematically culled during the Second World War should be forgotten and history should ignore what was perpetrated…that has proved to be an impossibility…hasn’t it. I think that the Barbadian government is within their legal rights to take that land for the benefit of the people, especially when you know the history of this plantation. These people exploited African slavers to amass great fortunes so why not take it over and use it for the benefit of the people.

The fact that Mr. Drax is still privilege to have the same surname of the slave masters is another indication of their power and "right". How many of us black people can unequivocally say we have the name of our ancestral parents. Our names have been changed possibly so many times that we do not have genuine connections to our birth ancestors. Mr Drax should be willing to turn over the property without the government paying him a cent.
Mia Mottley reminds me of some of the great Caribbean leaders before her. Such great like Michael Manley, Errol Barrow. In Jamaica we have a lacky as PM. The Drax Hall estate in Jamaica is a multi million dollar housing property for the filty rich in the US, England and Canada. So I have to commended PM. Mottley for her bold action.
What makes Drax any different to any of the other Plantation owners that were allowed to cut up their lands and sell them off to Barbadians. The whole issue of reparations should have been settled before a Black Government allowed for any of the Plantation lands to be sold off. The law fraternity saw an opportunity to make a lot of money through conveyances, and conveniently got pretty wealthy by looking the other way....! None of this should impress anyone.

The Barbados government shouldn't pay that 👿 one dime. The government need to find a way to take away that property from him without paying a dime. His family has benefited enough from the free labor of blk people.✔
Bds. should assume ownership of the land and sugar/rum company and run the business to use the profits to benefit the people to build the housing and provide lucrative jobs for the workers. Soldiers were against the Haitians. The slave story is a hoax told in reversed.
Drax came to the land now called Barbados when according to history it was an empty land. From whom did he stole it?? Drax, through the prevailing enterprise at the time, and by the effort he put in, developed for himself and his posterity something that has the government of Barbados choking over it with greed. The government of Barbados, in the time that Drax first went there, never found him, or charged him with doing anything wrong. How can the present Barbados government do so now?? What gives them this right?? Have they at anytime pointed out to the Drax Brothers that what they were setting up in Barbados at that time was wrong?? Why are the Drax Brothers now being found guilty of a law that did not exist at the time that they came to Barbados and through hard work developed their plantation?? If the Drax Brothers had chatted and chatted as these Caribbean governments are doing, with one and a half of their eyes, on other people property, there would be no plantation, or wealth, for these governments, to be greedily striving to grab, with all of them, seeking to glorify themself, as being the one who was able, to ignite the mob sufficiently, so as to get the coup-de-grace, of their desire, delivered. It would seem that a lot of people want to be the government so that they can look or be called good merely because they have spent other people's money. The Drax Brothers earned their wealth: using the enterprise which was legally available to them at that time. How can these governments, who are claiming to operate under this changed law, strive so man fully, or woman fully to deprive someone of what is their legal right to have. The Drax Brothers were not found guilty, in any existing court, in their time, of having broken the law. A seemingly skilled tongue does not always speak honestly neither of honesty. Is it that, "the government of Barbados then", allowed the Drax Brothers, to build wealth, by by using, what "the government of Barbados now", calls nefarious means, as a means of establishing a Trust(with the Drax Brothers and their descendants, being the trustee), which "the government of Barbados now", can, or is entitled to collect upon??
History is not written by those who had the land taken so their names are not recorded and we're told they didn't exist. It belonged to whoever was on the island at the time. If they didn't sell it then it was stolen.
@@judyrichards3651 Do you know who is Henry pollard? Barbados is one if not the only Caribbean island whose known existence started with a majority white population. Since no one who existed before the British came to Barbados can be found, to whom should reparations be paid? The plantation owners bought their slaves. They made an investment. Just as Drax was getting involved in sugar, he acquired 22 enslaved Africans in early 1642, at a time when nobody else had even a handful of slaves. In 1644, he purchased another 34 enslaved Africans. By the early 1650s, his plantation, Drax Hall Estate, was worked by some 200 enslaved Africans. Drax never went to Africa: Neither did he stole Barbadian lands from Africans or Barbadians. There is no living being with direct relations to the people who existed in Barbados before the British came who can lay any claim to what the Drax Brothers have developed and is still owned by their descendants. The Barbados government is a rogue. A brigand masquerading under law misappropriated.

Today after all these years the African man is still selling they children to Europe. Maybe not for money this time around. But they send they children to the European countries to work they ass off for them and if that child do not do it they cannot return to Africa BECAUSE they are cast out and labeled as useless.
Sir I look at it this way you take my 50 pounds for your property. The property belongs to me now if you want your property back pay me back my 50 pounds simple as that. The white man have not owe me it is my parents that owe what have they done with the money they sold me for?
- Seems like you were educated by a fool concerning African history, and now you parrot their foolishness. Stop with this contemporary white revisionist nonsense about Africa. Being raised on a small Caribbean island is no excuse in the 21st century for being so easily hoodwinked into self hate. Sure, some slaves were sold by some chiefs, but who told you that this was the entire, or even the bulk of the history? Do better. The curse today is ignorance, and your words seem full of it.🤡
Africans were shipped to South America and the Caribbean. Indigenous Black Caribbeans were shipped to New Orleans, where they were joined in slavery of Indigenous Black American POWs,. indigenous Black Americans were shipped to Europe and Liberia.
@@TeaDorsey yes I also know all of that. But my question is how have they got out of Africa in the first place? Did the white man just walk into Africa and pick up people and walk out? No they were sold to the white man by the African government or by the African people themselves. Yes today it is still happening in Africa. Try to marry a African woman and see in today's world how much you have to pay her father or mother or brother to get her.
@@TeaDorsey the price tag is huge. So we much not denies that the African people sold their children to the European countries inorder to get money this thing is so simple give back the white man the money he give you for your children and let him hand you back them.

Is this a successful sugar producing enterprise ? Does it provide jobs and livelihoods for many people in the area ? Will these jobs and livelihoods supporting families now evaporate ?

How many of us black people can unequivocally say we have the name of our ancestral parents. Our names have been changed possibly so many times that we do not have genuine connections to our birth ancestors.
Mr Drax should be willing to turn over the property without the government paying him a cent.
Wish every Caribbean leader was like Mia Motley
Yes
Mia motley don't give Britain any monies,I absolutely stand by all u say Mia.😊
I agree with the prime minister of Barbados start at home as an example for the world to follow.
Reminiscent of the ‘gang’ that has been elevated to the highest echelons, wholly protected by pawns and knights. Exactly therefore where is the confusion?
La lotta continua.
Yes the Barbados government was right this man is one of the richest men in the UK still living off of the wealth of slavery in the modern day he should have to pay!!!
Say what, sitting uk MP😂they kept that quiet
Im sure the Drax family will be glad to leave,if they can find a buyer.
a wise decision
I admire this woman because I see fear in her eyes but she is standing firm. They don’t call this “The Beast System” for nothing. I will ask the Sun 🌞 to protect her from the Beast.
The Barbados government shouldn't pay that 👿 one dime. If no one alive today can be held accountable (according to drax himself) then by that "logic" there is no reason he should be able to hold on to that property in Barbados. The government need to find a way to take away that property from him without paying a dime. His family has benefited enough from the free labor of blk people.✔
Good, his caucas self has benefitted from that for centuries.
Bds. should assume ownership of the land and sugar/rum company and run the business to use the profits to benefit the people to build the housing and provide lucrative jobs for the workers. Mr Drax can be allowed to walk away from his ancestors crimes with no further profit to himself or his family. Do the right thing and acquiesce. He can set a parliamentary example for the rest of his nation.
Do Barbodos get subsides ? What about reparations from the people of West Africa ?
Salute! Who were the slaves before any reimbursement paid, first ,what is the definition of a slave & an employee. The families of those employed at the plantation needs to be compensated for their immediate relatives"s hard work, severance not reparation. If anything that's Africa's responsibility to pay the few molested, assaulted & unlived by their Soldiers who were deployed to Haiti & Jamaica help housed some of them.

Do you know who is Henry pollard?
Is Drax still an MP?
No. Lost his seat 4th July 2024.
Can she run for president of the US?
That why i think today we are a curses generation of people BECAUSE God is truly vex for that worng we have done to him and his chosen ones could life be that bad in Africa that your own parents had to sell us?
I am a black African man born in Barbados but i do not believe one bit about the African slave trade and the way the story was told to me. It take two side the white man did not just when into Africa and pick up people like that the people of Africa had something to sell and the white man had the money to buy.
Do better. The curse today is ignorance, and your words seem full of it.🤡
Please please please tell me the honest truth about the slaves trade please.
@@TeaDorsey And you may ask me how that would happen. Easy every black man that live out of Africa would simply have to leave the western world and return back to the continent of africa okay leave the white man with they western world and we all give back to where we came from. How hard is that to be done?
Is this a successful sugar producing enterprise ? Does it provide jobs and livelihoods for many people in the area ?
Will these jobs and livelihoods supporting families now evaporate ?
Slaves were treated way better than labourers in het Western world. Nobody dies an expensive investment. You take good care of him or her. Stop talking, start working!
Enslaved people were seen as cheap to replace with no laws stopping their murder and abuse like in the western world.
Drax are gangsters and there in british parliament.
30,000 people, but you have records for 200 stop chatting foolishness and tell the real truth

Britain and its people still living in Barbados will try to crush Motley’s government if she goes through with expropriation. They still own the vast majority of the wealth and real economic power in Barbados anyway
That’s great! Side note though…when did people start mispronouncing Caribbean? 🫣
