It is fun to see these very same Easyshares coming back into vogue. I have two of them, a Z740 and a slimmer CD82. They are both great cameras and I feel that they are great street cameras on their own merits. Neat to see Kodak back in the game again with new cameras with the Pixpro series...

I bought an Pixpro FZ55 as I like my Nokia phone as a phone/sat nav/ payment device but the camera is not great and I wasnt prepared to pay an extra £800 to get a phone with a far better camera that in any case will probably only last about 3 years. The credit card sized FZ55 looks like a toy but has a modern16mp CMOS sensor and USB charging, it takes really great photos, in daylight way better than my phone and I paid £80 for it, metering is spot on and AF is fast too, default output is great and it has a proper 5x optical zoom with a proper 2 stage shutter button Nobody else is making tiny decent quality low prices P&S cameras now and I am 100% satisfied with it for the price paid, I take it everywhere and used properly people are amazed that I used a tiny £80 P&S to produce such photos, I suspect it is still made by the same company (Asia Optical) that made the easyshare cameras

Released in 2011 was the outstanding Kodak Z990 MAX which I have just used to remind myself just how brilliant it still is, by far the best superzoom camera I have ever used with its 12mp BSI CMOS sensor and 30X zoom lens, it was way better than the Z612 (which was OK) but somehow was overlooked, way better than any other I have owned from any brand and a total bargain on the used market now

I have the Kodak Z712 which I bought new when it first came out. It has always done everything I needed and produces great photos. I'm sorry you have had problems with your earlier model. It has a wonderful Schneider very sharp lens. Some of my photos from this camera have been printed in the newspaper I write for. I also have several dSLR cameras, but oftentimes I can get a better image with the Kodak Z712.

Scott, fascinating video and storytelling. Are you saying the CCD sensor is not developed and made by Kodak? More important than manufacturer is the developer. Kodak has become deified recently by multiple cameras made by other companies but marketed as containing Kodak CCD sensors. If this camera has that product in it, it's probably good enough... As long as it has a genuine Kodak sensor in it!

Did Kodak make imaging sensors for the easyshare line of cameras in the US? Or did they only manufacturer the more professional grade sensors here?

Can someone tell me what kind of sd card do I have to use?

Old "standard" SD cards with a max capacity of 2GB. SDHC & SDXC labeled cards will not work. You should be able to store around 500 images on such a card. I would recommend getting as high a class/write speed card as you can reasonably afford.

Totally disagree, I have had many Kodaks and I have owned cameras from many brands, I really rate many of the Kodaks, P880 was excellent with a great 8mp sensor and a pretty unique 24-140 manual zoom lens, I still have it and it takes great photos with great colour and contrast. The P712 was also excellent, the P850 was a bad camera but all brands produce the odd lemon
Then there was the Z990 with a 12mp CMOS sensor and a 30X zoom lens starting at F2.8 and 28mm with OIS, really really good and nobody else was really making anything better at the time. Even the budget 5mp DX4530 aimed at non photographers was surprisingly good for its time, looked a bit toy like but the images were great for its day and super easy to use.
There were loads of good Kodaks (they had a big range). Sure they all had flaws like any brand and there were a few not so good models, but in general out of all the brands of small sensor compacts, I always had better results from the Kodaks. The quality of the cameras was not the problem, it was more that keen photographers were put off by the brand image as they didnt see them as enthusiast cameras, the name "easyshare" etc was a turnoff and things like the share button gave the impression that they were for novices, they were more attracted to "cybershots" and "powershots".
I have a Z612 as well and its really nowhere near as bad as you make out, not one of the best Kodaks I agree, but I have had some far worse cameras from other brands. Z1012 was pretty good as was the Z712, and I say again, the P880 is one of the best cameras I have ever owned (1 big flaw is the power button which eventually fails, but that takes years of regular use).
I can afford a really expensive camera from any brand if I wish, but I still regularly use the P880.
Your point about Kodak not actually making the cameras can be said of other brands, Nikon are marketing to this day cameras made by Asia optical who also make the Pixpro Kodaks today, Canon have sold some really overpriced underperforming cameras, the original G1X had a ridiculous OVF which was partially obscured by a view of the lens, anything other than wide angle shots and it had terrible AF Sony made the very expensive DSC F828 which was also terrible , looked really cool but was just a bad camera when compared to the previous 717. Overall, I just cant agree with pretty much anything you have said in this vid and a few of the Sony superzooms looked great and had a cool sounding "cybershot" name, but were actually pretty bad, oh and dont get me started on the Nikons I have owned with completely useless matrix metering

The mass market for P&S cameras has dissapeared Kodak P&S didnt fail, the market was evaporating Kodak didnt have anything else to fall back on, they tried printers but that was never going to work as the market was sewn up by HP etc. Whilst the compact camera market was booming Kodak enjoyed a large market share and right up to the collapse they were selling well, but nobody is making cameras like these now because the mass market isnt there. The quality of Kodak cameras was no way anything to do with their collapse, millions were sold and enjoyed. Olympus has pulled out completely, Canon only now sell a handful of P&S cameras, Nikon sell one or two which are made by a third party company in China. Kodak cameras were just fine at the time and some were great. Later thehe smartphone killed the market stone dead. No matter how good Kodak cameras were, any brand would have failed if it was heavily reliant on small sensor P&S cameras, the market changed, that is the only reason Kodak failed, it was not the quality of the cameras. You could equally claim that the other manufacturers also failed as they have all pulled out as well, Fuji have also quit and Kodak superzooms were easily as good if not better

I have a Z612 and its really fun to use, it powers up really fast and is super compact, images look good if you use it properly and make use of the EV adjustment which I find quick and easy, battery life is OK too, not the best Kodak, but I certainly wouldnt call it a bad camera, oh and the EVF is pretty good for its time too, nowhere near as bad as is made out here
