Agree. It’s a solid record. Different vibe than the next couple albums, SSLP and MMLP (which are his two best IMO, but could just be showing my age lol) are where he really found his “sound” that made him so famous and respected. But nonetheless Infinite is a solid record and is a great one to put on in the background or like you said, a late night drive.

@SirMaski I sort of see Bad One as Eminem embracing his shadow self instead of creating a separate persona for him. He understands that Shady helped him survive by being the one to fight his battles, but now he has to take ownership of his actions and can't keep blaming Shady for his bad behavior. Also jf he kept the tracks like Tobey and Head Honcho off of the album, the deluxe could have been worthwhile lol. I do think Temporary was needed on the album tho, and I think it fits the concept to well to scrap

I do appreciate that Relapse has gotten more love since it came out. I was starting college around then (you youngin') and I remember really vibing with it while all of my friends didn't care for it. Its reputation at the time was that it was inconsistent and all over the place, and I'm vindicated by hearing you say it's more cohesive than my friends at the time thought. I'll admit nothing has matched his early run and I haven't been too enthusiastic since he's been more consciously pop in his production, but he still has his moments. The new one's probably my favorite in at least a decade if just because it feels like he has ideas instead of grievances that he's working through.

Good list, but since you included Shady XV and Hell The sequel you should have included The Re-Up and D12's albums as well. Also I will always love Encore, lol. To me the only bad songs are Big Weenie, My 1st single, A$$ like that and Rain man, the rest is great and the bonus tracks too.

NGL I was kinda falling out of em after hearing about the trans stuff off his new album, but this helped me remember why I like em, he's definitely been overly edgy but I respect that he's grown out of that mentality overtime and his stuff still sounds nice to listen too, even in spite of the cornball lyrics in later years

Apparently my Eminem discog ranking is very controversial so in the spirit of the video I’ll let you be the judge:
    1. The Marshall Mathers LP
    2. The Eminem Show
    3. Relapse
    4. The Marshall Mathers LP 2
    5. Recovery
    6. The Slim Shady LP
    7. Music To Be Murdered By - Side A
    8. Music To Be Murdered By - Side B
    9. The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace)

It is possible for Em to do the shady voice himself if he did what impressionists do which is where they practice saying specific phrases in the voices and styles of other people for a long time, so when they're doing them they nail it but if they go beyond they start to fall apart. In previous attempts Em may have just tried it in the moment but on the death of slim shady he may have been practicing those specific parts for years so that he could nail them when recording time came around which is easy to do if you do enough punch ins and comps

Just gonna say this as a fan of Eminem, nobody would blame you for shitting all over everything he’s put out. It’s common practice nowadays to take the worst that M has made and blow it out of proportion and make it seem like everything he’s ever done is garbage. But I applaud that even in the midst of his worst projects, you actually take the time to talk about some stuff that is good. That’s what I think sets you apart from literally every other music reviewer on this platform!

To me, some days I think The Death Of Slim Shady his best abum, other days I think it's a top four Eminem album. I like every song on the album, but after Shady "died" on Guilty Conscience 2 and Marshal took over, the album became less interesting somewhat-although "Temporary" shocked me by being a genuinely moving Skylar Grey assisted cut, where Eminem pens a heartfelt letter to his daughter, giving her comfort and advice for the day whe he inevitably dies and leaves her behind.
Most critics just hate it because of the alleged anti-woke content, straight up, and others lie to themselves and say he "didn't mean it." Well, no, he meant most of it on some level, he just normally would not say it that way: "
Ain't never really truly over 'til Lizzo sings... .
.if you're mad 'cause they're clownin' you for poundin' them donuts,
Put 'em down and either do somethin' about it or own it."
It was a joke, but he meant it, too. Like the Candace stuff. A lot of truth is said in jest. Shady allows him to say all the things he wants to say, in the worst way. He's not writing a nuanced essay. He knows fat people aren't fat just because they eat per se, but he ALSO knows you can't change unless you want too. That's the truth.
The pure jokes were obvious, like effing dead bodies, drop kicking midgets, dangling babies, wanting to eff Candace Owens so he won't diss her (even though he just did, and meant every word.)
Eminem IS fairly progressive. He supports trans rights and BLM, and hates Trump. But he is not progressive ENOUGH for the fringe minoriy online, who view it as transphobic to say you won't have sex with a trans person:
“So transgender rights, where do I stand?
I'm all for 'em, I really am pro
But intercourse with you , would I have? No
I'm just bein' honest , now I'm an asshole.”
These are the same sort of lunatics who wrote mot of the reviews for this album, who secrety or sometimes overtly see it as flirting with a "right wing agenda", and disguising their offended intolerence by saying Eminem is doing "old man yells at cloud" type lyrics, while dismissing how well written and produced this album is. Each song leads into the next, and the album tells a story thoughout, as Eminem delivers double and triple metaphors on the same subjects, while somehow geting more preverse and funny with each verse, until the album loses a lot of it’s humor and depravity as the Shady character is dominated by the more sobr style of Marshal Mathers.
Anthony Fantano, in particular, was transparently perturbed and seemingly unable to tolerate any joke at causes he (and Eminem!) agree with*1: he poorly hid his bias and censorious impulse by essentially suggesting it would be more daring and risky for Eminem to attack something right wing. (Which Fantano would, conveniently. agree with more.)
Fantano and other critics absolutely do not understand the majority of Eminem's fan base. We don't care if he makes fun of Trump, or Clinton, or uses the "gay" word. We respect his freedom of speech to take a stand against Bush or Trump. Agree or disagree. We also understand that Slim Shady is parody, and don't take his insane depravity seriously. We laugh and move on. Shady is a mirror on the dark aspects of America, it's vices and impulses, delivered with subtext and humor. Which is not to say that every Eminem song has to be super deep, either. Sometimes a joke is just a joke.
We needed "ten songs" (as one critic put it, saying he only needed GC2) of Eminem going at woke BS, precisely because of people complaing about it. It's a joke, not a dick, don't take it so hard. As a cripple, "Brand New Dance" was catchy and hillarious AF. Vintage Slim. The Death Of Slim Shady is top tier Em. Critics are cancer. These are the same kinds of people online and in reviews, who somtimes claim MMLP is a "favorite" album", who would have protested it back in the day, they just turned into permanently online keyboard warriors. These are the people Eminem aimed his Slim Shady ire at, and justly so.
    "Little white, middle-age, upper-middle-class
With a glass of wine and your cigarette
    Bitch, get off the internet
You ain't even fed your kids dinner yet"
They are the same kind of losers who in the 90's tried to stop us from smoking weed and playing violent video games. In the 90's, this led to PC culture, anti-drug PSA's, and congressional disscusions about video games and their myriad alleged harmful effects, such as leading to school shootings. Currently, we have ultra-woke culture, trigger warnings, and censorious anti-free speech "hate speech" laws. They used to try to ban or censor entertaiment, now they may just edit out "offensive content” from the movies you stream The same authortarians with different excuses.
For me, as a pure listening expirience, it would have been way more fun if instead of "Bad One", for example, (which was a great bop with good lyrics-just not as strong or interesting as the earlier, more Shady-centric cuts) Shady and Marshal had temprarily found commom ground and gone after Trump-maybe a cool story-telling song where they invaded Mar-A-Lago, or someting. Given his well documented Trump hate, it seems odd that nothing like that was on the album.
As an older man, Eminem probably wants to get away from the South Park cartoon side of himself, and that's fine, but I treasure this last gasp of Shady, too. Contrary to popular opinion, there is no such thing as "outdated" humor. Blazing Saddles and Beavis And Butthead will always be funny, and you should laugh at them, should never apologize for it, ever. Just like I will never apologize for enjoying The Death Of Slim Shady.
    -
After Guilty Conscience Part II the concept of “The Death of Slim Shady” (Wherein the original Slim Shady reappears in Marshal’s present day dream and causes chaos with his drug fueled depraved lyrics, culminating in a confrontation between the two and the “death” of Slim Shady) the “plot” of the album original album is essentially over, anyway.
Somebody Save Me, which explores “what if” he had not gotten off drugs is not strictly relevant. Neither is Tobey, where he addresses his GOAT status, his Melle Mel beef, except perhaps the line “Shady Gone, but hey, maybe I’m the GOAT.” Of all the songs, only “Temporary” is required as Shady’s swan song. It even ends with “a lot of people ask me” which is a classic way to end an Eminem album!
If you took Eminem’s verse on Tobey, Eminem’s verse after the beat switch on Head Honcho, plus some lyrics from Bad One. There is enough there for a fitting song where Eminem does a victory lap for pissing people off and restraining his demons once, but actually he won’t be tamed. One song, no features*2 , three or four beat switches. Leading into Guess Who’s Back (got to have Ken Keniff) and the emotional gut punch of Temporary.
The original albums songs after GC2 already sounded like “bonus tracks” that could have fit on a bonus album…but at least all of them have some lyrics that would have fit, and all of them (except maybe Bad One, which sounds like an out of place club banger) would fit sonically as well. On the actual expanded edition, however, two songs-the ones with 2 Chains and D. A. Got That Dope- don’t really sound like they truly belong on the album at all, neither sonically nor lyrically.
That doesn't mean the Expanded Mourners Edition of The Death Of Slim Shady is a waste of time. The Fuel Remix sounds great, and, I think, could have fit better on the album proper than some of the latter cuts that made the album. Just call it Fuel Part II. And hearing Steve Berman again was great! I wish it had made the album. Maybe as a “Hidden” track, ten seconds after the final track on the album. (Which, again. should be Temporary.)
Neither version of The Death Of Slim Shady is perfect. While I think the expanded edition has the two songs that fit the album the least, I don’t think any of the songs are bad, and if Eminem had combined some songs on the original abum, plus included the Fuel Remix and the Steve Berman skit on the album (Kyrie & Luka and Like My Shit could still be worthy bonus tracks) The Death Of Slim Shady might have been the first perfect Emiem album since, arguably, The Eminem Show.
    * 1: See his review of Houdini
    * 2 Which doesn't mean I dislike the feaures on those songs. Big Sean's verse is arguably bettet than Eminem's. And I really like. EZ's verse on Head Honcho, though I think I can appreciate it more than most because I know Philipino's.

Justice for Recovery: I think the album is very unique in the way it was put together. Yes, the album does have a very commercial sound to it, but it's also one of the most consistently introspective albums we ever got from Em. Tracks like Talkin' 2 Myself, Going Through Changes and 25 To Life feel like a punch to the gut for me with how unapologetically he tackles his own struggles and decides to move past them. Not Afraid and Cinderella Man are great motivational tracks that also fit the narrative of moving past your previous demons. Even a song like Space Bound, which at first seem to have no real connection to Em, could be referring to Eminems struggles he had with Kim.
It might be the case that I'm looking too deeply into this, but idk man. I really like the record...

I think "Guilty Conscience 2" should've been called "My Darling 2"
it'd make it that the first is a dark side of Eminem convincing him to bring Shady back to life and the second is Eminem killing Shady off
whereas Guilty Conscience 1 had Dre and Shady having a back and forth as an Angel and Devil on the shoulder and part 2 is just Shady having a back and forth with Eminem whereas in G.C. 1 there was barely any speaking from the person who's conscience it was, the song doesn't even start with something like
"meet Marshall, 51 years old, feeling constrained by the offensive nature of his alter ego, he decides on 1 last album before a sendoff, when suddenly his conscience comes into play"
