You'll be happy to know your video is still saving people money. I've replaced my 15 yo Milwaukee NiCad cordless with a new 18v Lithium, but there's no reason to let it rot for lack of batteries. Tried cheap generic packs that fail in no time, so I was about to pull the trigger on $25 worth of cells to make my own. Stumbled onto your video and decided to try it. Got 25% off for Memorial Day coupon, so total cost is under $10. After completing the swap, and removing from the charger, my new pack is at 20.65V. That should keep old reliable functioning for a few more years. Thanks!
Thanks for this video! I have a weed whacker and two drills by Black and Decker that use this battery. The retail for a replacement at Battery Plus is $59.95!!! I can change the cells in four B&D batteries using your method for the price of one B&D replacement battery! I'm VERY grateful to you for posting this video!
I purchased a Drill Master 68413 18 volt battery pack from Harbor Freight Sales for $14.99. The connector was different but a little rewiring or soldering will attach it to the B&D connector. Less than thirty minutes for two batteries and I'm ready for summer trimming for about the cost of one B&D battery. THANK YOU for this tip.
Just did the swap... all is well,,,, I think. The red and black wires on mine didn't need to cross. Ground to inside, red to out side. Thanks for the help
I did it right now. Everything is excellent. Thanks to Mr. Duong. The new battery package was a little bit taller than the old one. I took out a rubber pad at the bottom of the B&D case, as shown in the video and that solve the problem. Thanks so much.
Great video. Went to Harbor Freight on the way home from work. They did not have the "Harbor Freight" model, but had Drillmaster 18V (Basically identical) for $13 (On sale). Had to use the B&K connector as they were not the same. A quick use of wire cutters and a trusty soldering Iron worked Like a champ. Plugged it in to my Charger, Had to replace the B&D charge as it went belly up, and it charged just fine. This was to replace a OLD B&K 18V battery that went belly-up this past weekend. Plan on stopping by and buy a 2nd one to replace my 2nd B&K battery pack as it is also 5->7 years old.
Just wanted to say thanks for this video. I have a bunch of B&D 18v power tools...had 6 batteries but they all died. Bought two HF 68860 batteries today. Like others have said took about an hour to change them out. I soldered the wires to the B&D spade terminals. Works great. 6 B&D batteries would have cost me $240. Six HF batteries....$90. Thanks!!!
This worked perfectly and I am so thankful for this video. I did two batteries, charged them and my cordless B&D weed eater is better than ever! Thanks so much, I also recycled the old batteries at Home Depot. All good.
I have the same drill but both drill & battery are 24v. I've had it in my basement for 5 years without usage.....THAT'S a long time. How long would you recommend recharging that battery for? Back when you and I bought ours, there wasn't red/green light indicators to guide us....LOL!
This was a great video...thanks for the tip...I have 3 B&D batteries that were "bad" I fixed two of them using this tip...going back to get the third. Thanks
This is exactly what I wanted to see. I have the two batteries in front of me right now and am about to make the change. I would have screwed this up if I hadn't seen your video. Thanks!
I see the HF #67029 battery was the red one used in this video and no longer listed in the HF catalog. Headed over there today in Durham NC as I have a dead 18v B&D Single Source battery and interested in this rebuild option. I found 68860 at HF today which seems to have the same size and configuration of NiCd batteries as HF #67029 I'll post results of updating a B&D 18v with the HF #68860 batteries over the weekend.
Sorry didn't catch this earlier. I put the rebuild aside, because running the old B&D batteries through a couple of cycles on the GT Power A8 charger restored 2 of the 3 batteries to nearly new status. The B&D chargers are rubbish. The fast charger is great to have around when using battery packs, but for charge cycling then storing, get a charger like the A8. I use the A8 for ebike batteries primarily, thus the higher voltage (36v lead acid) and current (up to 7a). smaller iMAX or GT Power versions may do for you. www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__6443__G_T_Power_A8_8Cell_balancer_Charger.html
The black n decker 18v battery I have has three prongs on it instead of two prongs you’re showing in the video. When I opened the battery up it has three different wires on each prong. Would this still work with swapping from the harbor freight 18v battery?
Thanks for the great tutorial! Do you happen to have the Item # for the Harbor Freight battery? The one I purchased the prongs are completely different.
Didn't work for me. Apparently they have changed the ends on the Harbor Freight unit, and I had to unsolder the ends from the Blackand Decker unit and solder them onto the leads from the new battery. I double checked everything, but the batter only charges up to nine volts. I also notices that the leads are a smaller diameter on the new battery.
Harbor Freight no longer carries the battery used in the video. I used HF 68860 18v battery and it fit perfect. Swapping out the cells was about an hour job and required splicing the old terminals to the wires on the new battery. Make sure you check the polarity of the terminals on the old battery before you get started to make sure you hook up the new cells correctly. Note: The HF 68860 battery is the larger 1500 MAH battery so hopefully I will get a little longer run time out of it.
Most 12v nominal (14.4v peak) tools will run at 18v nominal (20v peak), just faster, and viceversa (but slower). Best thing however is to use lithium ion 18650 cells instead of NiCd. Lighter, more capacity, lower self discharge.
I'm fed up with B&D batteries,-they're too expensive & don't last too long. There are cheap versions over here[UK] but my charger wont charge some of them. - one has live on right[generic one] & the other original B&D has live on the left! Also there are 3 connectors & the middle one isn't used. Seems to me your batteries are all the same,-not a confusing bunch of nonsense,-like we have!
black and decker 18 vt. standard battery with suppose to be 50% more lasting power is not true. I compared it with the original battery that I bought with the drill in 2006 and the old battery last longer than the 50% new battery that they are bragging about. It's false advertisement. what with black and decker. the old battery works longer than the New 50% more lasting power battery???????????????
BTW how much weed did you smoke before filming this video? I think you smoked 3 bowls of pure THC Crystals. Be honest dude, you're in good company, no narcs in here.
NEXT TIME replace it with a 18 volt but with say 10 full amp hours. Give it some super kick juice powerful enough to drill holes into the Democratic Party's skull of new ideas maybe even penetrate the so-called glass ceiling but you'll need tanks of air to breathe since that is way up their like 45 miles up.
Questo poveraccio sta accumulando un pezzo che a ricomprarlo un caricabatterie di un giravite originale e batterie costano più del ricomprarlo insieme una fregnaccia

Good video. Just the right amount of detail. Also nice to see how he overcame some minor problems near the end.
Great video.

yeah no harbour freight...
no drillmaster either ...
Worked great for me, thanks !.. B&D batt is $29 on amazon.. The one at Harbor Freight is only $14.99. saved me some cash.. awesome.

Still intrest in Brandnew Black and Decker Replacement Battery Pack? You can shop on loopower.

Hehe. loved reusing the existing prongs from the Harbor Freight battery pack. I just went through this and now I know just what to do. Thx again.

Did the 68860 battery work? I'm looking to rebuild several non-functional B&D Single Source batt packs...
well?

+M.R.Smith how do i know which one i would use
The current DM 18V batteries at Harbor Freight is 68413
Does the Harbor Freight battery last as long as the original B&D ?

Awesome ! What about B&D FSX-treme 24v ? (B&D shows it to be compatible with HBP24.)
Slick !!! I have a dead B&D battery I am going to try this on!

Can we use li ion mobile batteries for drill battery pack?????

Would you happen to know the charging amperage on this? I have the same model but lost the charging cable, but I have a hobby charger.
can this be done on a black and decker 12V slide battery also ??
This is fantastic! My 14.4 has gone! Could I replace with the 18?
Most 12v nominal (14.4v peak) tools will run at 18v nominal (20v peak), just faster, and viceversa (but slower).
Best thing however is to use lithium ion 18650 cells instead of NiCd. Lighter, more capacity, lower self discharge.
If you replace the 14.4v with an 18v it will overheat and destroy whatever tool it goes with most likely.
I am going to try that with a Kobalt battery.
Hi, is it working 18v to 12v batteries
Do you have harbor freight part # ?
Hi there where’s to buy it this batteries please thanks
Thanks for this useful info.. Sale now!

no yours is a lithium. you can not repair a lithium with a nicad battery.
