Josh: I've been watching your content/videos for a long time now. Your creativity and style has helped to inspire me, even during the hardest periods of getting my channel off the ground. I also recently hit burnout (and made a few videos about it last week) and finally had to question why I create in the first place. I appreciate your solid advice here and wish you the very best.

good tips! it's important to have hobbies outside of your every day hustle. my hobbies turned into content and it's easy to get burnt out. i've also noticed my desire to go out decreased because i'm always stuck at home trying to push through content for myself and others.

Thank you for making this. Seriously, I’m not professional yet, but I have these moments of just not even wanting to look at social media…and I was worried because being a content creator was my salvation from a 9-5. So I was becoming afraid that maybe I was just not capable of being anything more. I really appreciate the idea of having other hobbies to fall back on. I have a similar work ethic and sometimes it can be hard to think of doing anything other than working. So you gave me that permission lol. Thanks!😁

I made sure I stuck to my passion and it coincides with my work! I’m so overwhelmed with work ( videographer) but I love wildlife so I make sure I go out and photograph/video at least ounce or twice a week. I have such a relief from all the stress of work. There’s something about being in the middle of the wilderness and taking in all the amazing nature.
Josh this is great PSA video and I appreciate you sharing this! it speaks a lot to who you are as a human being and the fact that you give so much of yourself to lots of people.

I really needed this. Thank you so much, Bro. I am in what I believe to be the most difficult time in my life. I have lots of hobbies but as a single dad, living in a country like China, you don't get to much much time for anything. I bought new bikes for myself and my kids, and I bought slingshots for my son and I. It really works. We record music, shoot videos and so a lot more. It really helps when you have lots of interesting things you enjoy doing and also being hopeful that GOD's got your back and everything is working for your own good.

This video sounds 100% like what I have done to myself. I love hockey, and started making videos. After 5 years I jumped off the cliff and made it my main business. Over 1700 videos have led to just over 7000 subscribers. A terrible, awful ratio but it is what it is. I just keep going, but this off season ( summer) I have hit the wall in a way I never thought possible. I have made all the mistakes, making my hobby my income, dropping my other hobbies, 16 hour a day work ethic during the season, and not a second goes by that I am not thinking about what video to make next. I have not had a 2 week vacation since 1996, live month to month on my YT earnings, and have zero local friends to even text and say hey lets go get a beer. I have been questioning whether to just quit or keep going because I am so burnt out on hoping the channel takes the next step, thinking maybe this video, maybe this video. I have tried starting other channels but it's hard to stay mentally invested in building a new channel when the first one has not done what I need it to do. I have been burnt now for almost 2 months and found this video when researching creator depression. Normally by this time of September I am excited and making fresh content, but this year I am FRIED and want to vomit just thinking about picking up the camera. Just so damn tired.

This video resonates so much with me, I’m a filmmaker with a company where I make money locally, I started creating content for RUclips to promote my business, but my channel has been growing soooo slow it’s frustrating because here I am putting work into my physical business plus more work towards a RUclips channel, I’m feeling that working on my channel is no more joyful but discouraging because of seeing all the hours I spend on creating something of value and then I only get 70 views on a video I spent weeks creating so this video feels so personal

I can't say I know the feeling since we were never really locked down in FL. Every place manages things differently, and I get that. I also play guitar, drums, bass, keys.. been in many bands, toured.. Touring was the probably the hardest, less gratifying aspect until it was stage time. But that was 50 minutes of the days we played.. the rest? I took up other things which got me deep into photography. Let me just add that as a kid I always loved the stars, telescopes... Then when I started astrophotography that was a challenge. Weather, getting those long term exposures, light pollution, so many things that you have zero control over other than relocation to prime sites. Still, it's very rewarding to enjoy the life you actively live. I can go to the beach and not get burnt out of it. We have rocket launches here I go to, and those are challenging, rewarding, and disappointing when you don't get that "shot".. but you keep at it, trying to achieve something different. Shoots during the day are fun, always learning new gear, and stumbling upon channels like yours that are always so deserving of subscribers. Keep up the good work. I hope things in Calif break soon enough. Being in lockdowns has really increased issues for many people.
As a guitar player first, I can say you never are THAT good to where things are not challenging regardless of what it is.... You will hit brick walls with writing because most people develop a style, and that style is often a hindrance into developing more creative ways of doing anything... painting, photog, musicians, and so on. Creative work is tough since it often is never the same.. unlike if you are a dry wall worker (which I have done and it sucked more than anything lol). Those jobs are easy to get burnt out on. Any job is really... but taking time out for yourself, and out of the zone can really help. I know many in bands, or that did music full time really had issues with the lockdowns. Some players gathered their fans in the front lawns for a solo project. Many took to YT trying to produce content that barely were able to find 1000 subs to be able to do Live feeds.. frustrating for them for sure.
Burnout is common though, and great that you go into detail in how you both appreciate that aspect as a creator, and how you seek to find solutions. Again, keep up the great work in all you do. Your content is very good

I don't chase down views, subscribers or watch time anymore. Life is too short. And its too consuming. I do what I do while it's fun and come what may. I also find that constantly buying stuff can lead to a sentiment of feeling empty...you know, when it's the stuff that owns you instead of the other way around. Since I lost my mom and sustained a work related injury at my day job, I've taken it down a notch and feel much less stressed out; I make time for the outdoors and everything that's nurturing. Wishing you all the best. 🔥

Obviously, the key message here is important. When you said how much time you put into some things, my first thought was, "If you put months into a tutorial, you probably should sell it rather than giving it away for free." In my experience, the time I put into a paid product and the marketing for it usually results in about $500/hour. Can ad revenue from RUclips really be much better?

I found that working alone causes Creative Burnout. I try to surround myself with other creators, offer help with others, and the other way around. The issue I run into is that Photographers and Videographers in the professional realm are extremely territorial. Even to the point that they will try to discredit their competition. Tha can also lead to burnout. I try extremely hard to conduct myself as professional as possible and use my skills to show value to others. I am a full time commercial photographer and videographer. I have no other source of income. I try really hard to find others in my industry that are wanting to work with others. Burnout sucks and can really be daunting, but look for community is basically what I am trying to say. Good luck to you all.
