I brought a 22 year old motor home. A 2 birth, built on a Boxer chassis. I travel all the time and free park. I love it. When I was young and my husband was alive. We owned 5 V.W. Combies. Over the years. But now over 70. I cant crawl around in a van. Motor homes have a bathroom and I have a full kitchen. I just love it. I have a house but happier in my motor home.

James I watched your first video a few weeks after you posted it as I watch a lot of van life videos it just popped up and at first I thought ahh this is just another boring van life youtuber but I have to say I stuck with it as we were in similar situations and backgrounds and I have to say I'm glad I did because the content you produce is unique. It's so interesting and fun and most of all you and Helen are so open and honest. I'm not surprised you have more fans as nobody on RUclips is doing what you are doing. You my number one favorite channel and apart from a few car fixing up RUclips channels I don't watch much van lifers as its boring bollox and they copy each other. About full time van lifers, most of them do take a break from their van whether it be staying with a friend or relative, or an Airbnb and there's a couple that do house/pet sitting so they can take a van break. Hello I lived in a large motorhome for a year 10 years ago parking on the streets and although it was comfortable I don't recommend it People are always suspicious and bother you even though it was modern and expensive plus difficult to blend in and parking in supermarkets when shopping takes up 2 spaces

Hi James- I am really enjoying your channel. 😊 My husband & I live off-grid & have for a year now. We're not youngsters (ha), but in 2019-2020 our life "spoke" quite clearly and we listened and acted. We've had more conversations about poop the last year than I ever thought possible! We don't have kids, so we missed the opportunity to talk about it then. At the moment I find "bathrooming," showering & trying to survive the cold the most difficult parts. We are not near any significant towns or cities & having that infrastructure could be helpful (and maybe comforting). On the other hand we are surrounded by acres of peaceful beauty & stillness and that makes my soul sing. So all of this by way of asking you what is the "unit" you are mentioning? I'm tempted to think it's what we would call a storage unit in the US but there is no way you could use a toilet or do office work or anything like that in a storage unit here in the US. I wish you continued success on your channel. 🙏
Jane: yes the unit is a storage unit - it can be seen in one of his videos. Some have a toilet and some don't, depends what you want to pay for. The UK is much smaller than USA (Ha Ha ! But it's something you don't appreciate unless you've been there). I have been to USA so I understand it's vastness. In the UK you can travel from top to bottom usually in two or three stages and it will take two days, but James lives almost in the middle (more north than south) and then you have to consider the petrol costs. I'm glad you are enjoying your peaceful life 💟

Stick with what you have for the time being until you really need a new van or a motorhome. Your channel is great because of you so whatever you choose will be fine. Just don't waste money for nothing. Good luck for winter.

understand the bill anxiety. i've come close to an itinerant life style like you but i wouldn't handle it as well. Especially in the winter lol. My thing is motorbikes, old ones and i'm considerably older than you - as i've travelled about in the UK i have become ever more disappointed with towns and resorts, often so taudry and alien from how i remembered those i went to when younger.

Loving the channel. When I was young I lived in vehicles full time for 12yrs. I had lots of ridiculous comments if I wintered up at one place for a few months. "You're not a proper traveller" bollards. Live your life. You only get one. We all do wrong and we all do right. You have to navigate the moral compass in a way that your conscience feels comfortable with. The rest be damned.
I watched to the end and there is nothing up with me…I’ve really enjoyed your chat. It’s like being with an interesting friend. You don’t come across as grumpy, you often laugh and have a twinkle in your eye. It’s funny when you are unsure and Helen strides out confidently. You’re a great team. Me and hubby got married in Las Vegas just us 2 and Elvis impersonator 😂😂😂 walked me down the isle in the Little white wedding chapel it was absolutely brilliant best thing we ever did it cost ue 2ooo pound for everything including the flights coming up to 23 years in December 😂😂😂😂😂
I must have watched twenty or thirty of your video's now, so I guess I'm a bit hooked. I started wondering why I find them so interesting and I think what it is, is that I get to see a lot of the places in the UK that I probably wouldn't choose to visit myself, even though I could. Also there are a few that I've now seen that I think, you know I quite like the look of that village, maybe I should go. On top of that some of the East coast destinations like Bridlington, Scarborough etc that I haven't been to for twenty or thirty years, but used to visit all the time when I lived in the East Midlands. Now living in the West Midlands the extra hour required to get to those places makes them less inviting. I think I was also spoilt when I discovered Cornwall in the mid 1980's, the worst parts of which are nicer than most of the best parts of the East coast. My parents had a static caravan at Chaple st leonards near Skegness when I was young and we used to go there every single weekend, friday evening to Sunday evening all through the season, so I got pretty sick of the place. Anyway good luck with your ongoing travels, I don't mind the odd advert, although I don't watch them, and I hope she says yes some day.

I watched to the bitter end 🤣 . My missus can't understand what I see in your channel. I think the truth is, I am envious of your life and its a form of escapism when I watch you. I dream of a life without all the bloody bills, taxes, and rates. Maybe you can hop on a ferry to Calais, Cherbourg or maybe Ireland? I just got back myself from touring right down to Italy and back. I was a little apprehensive taking the car at first, but it's no big deal. Maybe a little trip over the channel to test yourself?

Also personally, I’d love to see a van build, I have finished my van but always look for new van builds as love watching people make their own little homes. I think it makes great content. Ey up, I'm living full time in my Transit. I've given up renting flats because they're crap, covered in black mold and in a right state. I've got to find an accommodation address yet for post, but I've no intention of living in a crappy flat again. You do get problems in a van. Recently my central locking failed and I couldn't get any of the other doors open apart from the driver's door. To get in the back, I had to push the seat forward, folld the seat back over the steering wheel, climb onto the battery and climb over half of a bulkhead wall. It was bloody ridiculous, at one point I had an audience. Garages didn't want to tackle it. I struggled for two sodding weeks and then one evening I pulled up in Castleton and the bloody doors unlocked by themselves except for the sliding side door, which refuses to budge. Houses are a liability and I'm hoping that this van will see me out because I can't afford another one. Life on the road is so much better and nobody knows where you are.

Just once you do get more success James with YT, don't allow it too change you. especially as your openness and honesty is what people like. Once I got a quadrupelling of my monthly income I noticed a shift in my own psychology, I became less empathic to others, so I had to fight against this. So just always be open minded and reflect inside on yourself. 🤓🤠🐵🐱 =)

understand the bill anxiety. i've come close to an itinerant life style like you but i wouldn't handle it as well. Especially in the winter lol. My thing is motorbikes, old ones and i'm considerably older than you - as i've travelled about in the UK i have become ever more disappointed with towns and resorts, often so taudry and alien from how i remembered those i went to when younger.
Stumbled across your channel a couple of weeks ago, after me and the other half had a mini break near Skipton, loving the content, travel, hiking, pubs, charity shops! Loving the channel. When I was young I lived in vehicles full time for 12yrs. I had lots of ridiculous comments if I wintered up at one place for a few months. "You're not a proper traveller" bollards. Live your life. You only get one. We all do wrong and we all do right. You have to navigate the moral compass in a way that your conscience feels comfortable with. The rest be damned.
I watched to the end and there is nothing up with me…I’ve really enjoyed your chat. It’s like being with an interesting friend. You don’t come across as grumpy, you often laugh and have a twinkle in your eye. It’s funny when you are unsure and Helen strides out confidently. You’re a great team. Keep doing what you’re doing…it’s working 🙂

Me and hubby got married in Las Vegas just us 2 and Elvis impersonator 😂😂😂 walked me down the isle in the Little white wedding chapel it was absolutely brilliant best thing we ever did it cost ue 2ooo pound for everything including the flights coming up to 23 years in December 😂😂😂😂😂

I must have watched twenty or thirty of your video's now, so I guess I'm a bit hooked. I started wondering why I find them so interesting and I think what it is, is that I get to see a lot of the places in the UK that I probably wouldn't choose to visit myself, even though I could. Also there are a few that I've now seen that I think, you know I quite like the look of that village, maybe I should go. On top of that some of the East coast destinations like Bridlington, Scarborough etc that I haven't been to for twenty or thirty years, but used to visit all the time when I lived in the East Midlands. Now living in the West Midlands the extra hour required to get to those places makes them less inviting. I think I was also spoilt when I discovered Cornwall in the mid 1980's, the worst parts of which are nicer than most of the best parts of the East coast. My parents had a static caravan at Chaple st leonards near Skegness when I was young and we used to go there every single weekend, friday evening to Sunday evening all through the season, so I got pretty sick of the place. Anyway good luck with your ongoing travels, I don't mind the odd advert, although I don't watch them, and I hope she says yes some day.

I watched to the bitter end 🤣 . My missus can't understand what I see in your channel. I think the truth is, I am envious of your life and its a form of escapism when I watch you. I dream of a life without all the bloody bills, taxes, and rates. Maybe you can hop on a ferry to Calais, Cherbourg or maybe Ireland? I just got back myself from touring right down to Italy and back. I was a little apprehensive taking the car at first, but it's no big deal. Maybe a little trip over the channel to test yourself?
We've got some great trips planned. Just back from Germany (although not in the van)

Personally I like your little one on one chats, it’s great to see how well you are doing and the confidence you have since the first couple of videos too. Also personally, I’d love to see a van build, I have finished my van but always look for new van builds as love watching people make their own little homes. I think it makes great content. But whatever you and Helen do, it’s always nice to watch and as they say, variety is the spice of life so just keep doin whatever makes you happy 😊

James this is question is very light hearted and fun .as you know most families have photos their loved ones around their home. With van life photos may end upon floor of van. That being said do you have a fridge magnet of you both on the wall of back of van?
I think like a lot of people these days most of my photos are in digital format on phones and computers, I do have a box of older photos though
I like the way you deliver your utube vlogs. You tell thing's as they are and you seem very down to earth.
I also like your reviews on different parts of the country and it kind of gives me a free insight of where to visit and to avoid.

I'm 50 and couldn't agree more with not being flash and keeping up with the jonses did it myself no one cares what you have and you just end up totally skint. Really enjoy the content. If you get a motorhome stealth camping won't be as easy I'd convert a bigger van. You Seem a very genuine person Helen is awesome. Hope the channel keeps growing 👍👍

Ey up, I'm living full time in my Transit. I've given up renting flats because they're crap, covered in black mold and in a right state. I've got to find an accommodation address yet for post, but I've no intention of living in a crappy flat again. You do get problems in a van. Recently my central locking failed and I couldn't get any of the other doors open apart from the driver's door. To get in the back, I had to push the seat forward, folld the seat back over the steering wheel, climb onto the battery and climb over half of a bulkhead wall. It was bloody ridiculous, at one point I had an audience. Garages didn't want to tackle it. I struggled for two sodding weeks and then one evening I pulled up in Castleton and the bloody doors unlocked by themselves except for the sliding side door, which refuses to budge. Houses are a liability and I'm hoping that this van will see me out because I can't afford another one. Life on the road is so much better and nobody knows where you are.
Yes it does give you a sense of freedom. I bet the door thing was a right pain in the backside
