I had a chance to make a couple bowls today and am going to edit the clips and get a full review up for these tools. I can tell you that they are everything I had hoped they were. They hold an edge incredibly well and they can be lightly sharpened to an unbelievably sharp edge for that last finishing cut and will leave you a finish you have to see to be believed. These are far and away the best value in a tool I have every come across. On dirty hard woods like mesquite and ironwood I will stick to my PM tools and finish with this one. On anything else and for those of you who want to stick to one tool. You can't go wrong with these tools.
@@kendallnorthern7824 that’s what I hoped. It looks the same and is also parabolic. Maybe the handle isn’t as long idk but from what I understand the m42 is a great tool steel.
Good info.. getting ready to upgrade a 1/2" spindle Gouge. What are your thoughts on the Crown Cryo vs the Crown m42 Cryo? How do you compare these to Sorbys tool? Thx for any and all input
It really is a nice tool. I have used it extensively now and with the British Pound being down against the dollar it arrives at your door for around 90 bucks. No other M-42 tools are even close. And I own lots of the others these hold there edge better.
Just back from Axminster tools and come out with a Crown M42 Razor Edge 3/8 bowl gouge .really looking forward to using it tomorrow
Just ordered mine from ebay, ive gone for the 5/8
THESE ARE WITHOUT DOUBT THE BEST GOUGES IV'E EVER USED ... HIGHLY RECOMENDED !! GREAT REVIEW KEN :)

I’m curious if anybody knows if this is the same gouge design as the crown Ellsworth gouge?
The Ellsworth has a slightly different grind. It’s easy to use the Ellsworth jig to change it.

I've a sneaking suspicion Santa will be bringing me a 3/8" crown cryo m42 gouge this year. Looking forward to it :)
