    At last, I found someone who explained how to view the images after shooting Super High Speed Pre-Burst function. THANKS

      It annoyed me too when I was looking in to this function, how difficult it was to find information on playback of the images. So I made sure to included it in my video. Glad it helped.

    Great video. Love my G9, specially for the opportunities with 6k photo. By the way, you do not need to delete 60 separate photos when you taken a pre burst. They are stacked in one file that you can choose from and then you delete the whole file as a normal pic.

    Something I've wondered about but not yet used. With your video It's been made clear - as well as the part about not leaving it in this mode for longer than needed. Thanks

    I have just got my used G9 so am watching all these videos to understand how to use it.
    One point - you mention that pre-burst starts when you focus and ends when you fully press the shutter button. I have the AE/AF Lock button set to AF ON for back button focus but when I press it the camera focusses but I don't see PRE. That appears when I half press the shutter button.
    Given the hair trigger shutter button I find is rather difficult to half press - it shoots through to fully pressed and I have to start all over again ... after the writing to the card had completed.

    • @naturesimagephotography
      @naturesimagephotography  7 месяцев назад +1

      I think I mentioned this in a later video after I had switched to back button focus. Yes you are right - focusing doesn't trigger the pre-burst...half pressing the shutter button does. When you switch to BBF you separate the focus and shooting functions. And it's the shooting function (shutter button) that enables the pre-burst. The hair trigger shutter button...like the rest of us, you will find it gets easier with more practice. The new G9ii has a much better shutter button in that regard.

    I've use a Sony a6400 and Sony a7iii mostly but recently sold my a6400 and bought a G9 instead mainly because of the image stabilization for video. Already love the menu system which simply does what one expects a touch menu to do in a modern camera. The a7iii is more recent and can't hold a candle up to the G9 in that respect. More and more I discover features in the G9 where I think why doesn't Sony do this as well add to that the age of the G9 and the current new and second hand price it makes it even more crazy. Don't see why some people are saying MFT is dead... I'm now even starting to contemplate selling my a7iii and get a second hand GH5 or just more of those compact lenses (only using hte 12-60mm 2.8-4 so far). On the wish list are the 9mm F1.7, 35-100mm and the 100-400mm.

    Nice video and bird shots.
    Pre-Burst is very useful. Unfortunately, I have stopped using burst mode photography on my G9 because of 2 previous incidents which ended up corrupting the content on my memory card. Not only are burst image files lost but it also caused the lost of other image files shot non-burst. I have since tested at various times when I'm not on a photo shoot where I am at jeopardy of losing important content. I have not encountered the problem in test mode but I'm still hesitant to use burst (with or without pre) in fear of losing captured content. Have you encountered such an issue?
    My workaround is to use 6K Photo mode but that does not produce RAW image files (which I prefer for post-editing) and at a slightly lower 18MP resolution.
    If other users have not encountered this - certainly there has been no Panasonic fix for the problem up to firmware 2.0 - then I can only conclude that it is my particular brand of memory cards (Delkin 128GB Prime SDXC 1900X UHS-II (U3/V60) or a hardware issue in my G9. Thank goodness I don't have any memory card content lost issues shooting thousands of RAW images and lots of video footage including in 10-bit 422 HLG. (Now, why on earth did I go and say that!)

    Hi Andrew. Very useful and informative video clip. I will be setting up my G9 accordingly. Particularly as I am going on a wildlife trip to Cyprus at the end of March and will definitely be taking lots of bird photos. Your comments on Hard Drive and camera SD card storage space and battery life need to be considered by anyone using fast burst setting or video. I use 68 Gig camera cards and always carry spare in a hard case even with the dual slot on the G9. As for the computer Hard Drive I use 4TB drives always backed up. And the camera battery ? Always take at least 3 spare batteries when I am out for the day particularly if video will be shot.

    I use the pre burst mode on my G9ii and love it. Any idea why it's such an ISO hog?. Moving the dial to shutter priority from pre burst using same shutter speed results in a dramatic drop in iso.

    oh wow what a cool function, I wish my A9 had that. The countless times I stood there waiting for a bird to take off and missing it. The G9 is tempting! Do you find that having to use really fast shutter speeds to catch BIF that the ISO capabilities on the G9 isn't good enough? What is the highest ISO you would deem as usable?

    • @naturesimagephotography
      @naturesimagephotography  4 года назад +2

      To be honest I haven't really been tested in that department yet as the light has always been very good on my outings since getting this camera. I have gone as high as 1600 and not been unhappy with the performance. Yes a bit of noise but nothing that can't be handled with a bit of noise reduction in Photoshop. When people complain about the noise on M43 cameras, I assume they are comparing them to full frame...but I have always used crop sensor cameras anyway and don't find this to be such a big difference.

    I have the G9 and have been using the 6K/4K for action shots of birds. after seeing your video I am going to switch to the super high pre-burst functions. I have a couple of questions. What do you use for focus, I use the animal detect which switch to the 225. second what shutter speed are you using for birds? I am using around 2500 but in some cases my ISO jumps up to 3200 which causes noise.

    • @naturesimagephotography
      @naturesimagephotography  4 года назад +2

      I have not had much success with the animal detect autofocus. Photographing an osprey on a branch it focused on a lump of wood more often than it focused on the bird. And for an osprey in flight it was slower than using custom multi so although it followed the bird I did not get many sharp shots. So for birds about to take off I usually use AFS and single area focus (small). Then I focus on the bird, keep my finger on the button, and move the camera in the direction I expect the bird to fly into. It doesn't always work and often the bird will quickly fly out of focus...but it allows me to capture that instant when the bird first spreads its wings and lifts off.
      I prefer not to shoot above 1600 ISO so these shots are best done in sunlight. For smaller birds I like at least a 1250th/sec but hopefully faster. For larger birds 1000th/sec is usually enough but I hope for faster if there is enough light.

    If I use back button focus, will the preburst function still work when a pre-focus using the back button?

    • @naturesimagephotography
      @naturesimagephotography  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yes it does. But pressing the back button to focus doesn't activate the pre-burst. Half pressing the shutter button does. So you need to keep that half pressure on the shutter button while focusing to make the pre-burst work for you.

    Excellent video, Just set my G9 to the pre-burst mode but how do I save a picture from the burst

    • @naturesimagephotography
      @naturesimagephotography  4 года назад

      Not sure what you are asking? After a shoot I transfer all photos from my SD card to my computer. Photos that are stored as a folder on the camera can be viewed individually once they have been loaded to the computer.

    will the camera still take the pre-burst if you are using back focus button?

    • @naturesimagephotography
      @naturesimagephotography  4 года назад

      OK what's the best way to answer that? I don't use BBF so I will have to do a test and get back to you. For now I can say that from watching some other reviews I believe you can use BBF along with the pre burst, and I can't think of any reason why you couldn't. But without any direct experience I will have to give it a try. If I come up with any useful info I will post it and maybe even work on another video on the subject.

    Can you utilize the pre burst mode, if you are using back-button focus? Also, are you using the tracking AF mode?

    • @naturesimagephotography
      @naturesimagephotography  4 года назад

      Re back button focus, I believe yes you can but I don't use it so I have not put that to the test. Most of these were taken using single point focus, as I am trying to catch the moment when the bird spreads its wings and take off. So I usually focus on the spot where it is perched to concentrate on getting that shot, without trying to track it beyond that moment. I have found the tracking is effective up to a point but a bit slow, so it is ok for big things like pelicans. But for birds this tiny and quick, I doubt it could track very effectively once they have taken off anyway.

    • @Democratiser
      @Democratiser 2 года назад +2

      I had the same question and the answer is yes, but you need to half press the front shutter actuation button regardless! ‘Pre’ appears on the screen as you depress the button (depending on the screen mode you are using).

  • @juko8794
    @juko8794 2 года назад

    Why some pics have motion blur!! Cant we increase shutter speed in in preburst.

  • @oneeyedphotographer
    @oneeyedphotographer 6 месяцев назад

    How does this play with BBF?

    • @naturesimagephotography
      @naturesimagephotography  6 месяцев назад

      It works fine but it takes a bit of getting used to. You'll be using the back button for focus, but the front button is the one that triggers the pre-burst. So you will need to hold the thumb down for focus, and ALSO half-press the front button in preparation for shooting. It took me a while for muscle memory to kick in.
