Me too! Troppico is an amazing album, but this is simple and feels like love at 18 or 19. So young and without burdens or responsibilities. Sorry, I can't put it into words 😔
IMO this is the song that single-handedly ushered in the 1980’s and pointed the way to what “New Wave” would sound like. And I thank God every single day that I was there in the flesh to experience it all at just the right age, a freshman in college.
How this wasn't a bigger hit has always escaped me. To me, it's Pat's finest song. The riff and the lean, stripped down production grab you straight away, then Pat's strong sensitive vocal comes in, perfectly expressing the song's bittersweet sentiment. The feel of the song has a slightly metallic 'punk' edge to it, with a crunchy, tight guitar sound that's immediate and striking. The lyrics capture the fleeting nature of romance in a succinct and mature way. I still love this decades later - sounding like nothing else, this is a small and original piece of pop greatness.
Listening to this wonderful song again brings tears to my eyes and makes my remind the early eighties when I was sweet 16 and life was much better than today and there was really nothing to worry about. Blessings to everyone! 🤗
Beautiful song, great band and a huge fan here. I've loved her music and had a big crush on her since I was a kid. Great music that lives in my head and my heart rent free ❤
I remember when Johnny Carson held up a photo of Pat on his show in 1980 and the audience went wild. I saw her twice in 1985. She is a total beauty. What an awesome woman. Lots of class, unlike some of the female performers of today.
AÑO 1980, LIMA PERU, LA ESCUCHABA EN UNA DE LAS EMISORAS PIONERAS DE LA FM : 1160, Y DESDE AQUEL AÑO NO LO HABIA VUELTO A ESCUCHAR, HAN PASADO TANTOS AÑOS (42 AÑOS) PARECE MENTIRA Y QUE EMOCION DE RECORDAR AQUELLOS HERMOSOS MOMENTOS DE INICIOS DE LOS 80S, GRACIAS POR SUBIRLA
I saw Pat Benetar live in 1981 at the Meadowlands- I left the show in love with her voice and in love with her- pure energy pure talent! name a current singer that could do justice to this song- there's not one. Iconic 80's
NO ONE. Pat is one of a kind. I'm sure there are, however, plenty of today's singers who could butcher the hell out of this song with all manner of unnecessary vocal acrobatic CRAP.
I saw Pat Benatar in concert in a small nightclub in Frederick, Maryland back in July 1998. I was standing less than 10 feet from her while she performed on stage. She put on an incredible performance! I couldn't believe how lucky I was to not only be at the concert on a last minute notice, but to be so close to her as well!
My wife and I saw Pat about 3 years ago in Medicine Hat, Alberta (front row!) It was an amazing concert, she sounded so good and looked amazing! Still rocks!
I saw her as well. It was right around time of her anniversary to her husband or her birthday. She rocked. Wished I could of seen more of the concert. Got there late and person I was with wanted to leave early. That part sucked
Pat, you are precious and beloved, thank you for the countless hours of listening and singing along to your beautiful creative works, I wore out my albums. God bless you! : )
what can I say about this song it just makes me wanna turn up my Bose sound system and rock out I love it because it is a very beautiful song and Pat Benatar knows how to do it like no other
I remember this song being widely aired on Lima , Peru, top radio stations at the moment, 1982 (Miraflores, Panamericana, even Double Nine and 1160). It reminds me of my youth crushes: Jacqueline Canessa and Carolina McCallum. 😍
This is the version found on catalog number CHE 1236. It’s a revised version of the debut with heavier guitars on this track. The original pressing with the other version is CHR 1236 if you are looking for it.
Una de las más grandes clasicasde de dsta mujer, con sonido entre rock y New wave, sólida cantante que marcó el rock mainstream de la primera mitad de los 80s.
Now I always think of this clip from the late Lemmy of Motorhead said about Pat Benatar. Lemmy said "She's a great singer and has a great ass!!!". He wasn't wrong and damn she looks good in the black dress here😍
I used to be so deranged and filled with anger and hate, they put me on Abilify which did nothing but give me erectile dysfunction. The good news now is that I love this song WE LIVE FOR LOVE because I figured out a technique which has allowed me to forgive everyone and now I am free and quit the medication. IMO this is the song that single-handedly ushered in the 1980’s and pointed the way to what “New Wave” would sound like. And I thank God every single day that I was there in the flesh to experience it all at just the right age, a freshman in college.

Well stated, David... I totally agree.
I agree 100%
I feel the same thing. The chorus has this ethereal anthem-like quality to it. Definitely a new-wave influence in there.
Me too. Fantastic song. By far her best (IMO ).
I second - very well stated! A magical song.
1980 Radio 1160 FM Lima Peru
The singers and musicians were on a different level during this era compared to today !
