This video is adorable in many ways. Always fun seeing Anna, Andrea and Alex together. Had me asking myself, how is Anna ahead on time? Then remembered she's playing against Andrea who can burn up time just as well.
Wait this is SUCH a good concept. And there's so many ways to change it up a little! Maybe you can't hit the timer until you've finished answering the question so it's always your time, or you could ask questions with a definite answer and they can't hit the timer until they get it right, all sorts of things!
andrea's meaning of life answer is essentially existential nihilism. what people popularly think of nihilism (nothing has value so fuck it) is a trap that nietzsche warned people not to fall into. you are supposed to, once you accept there is no inherent value in anything, define value in the world for yourself. so acknowledging there is no meaning and rebelling against that by creating meaning in the little things she finds joy in is exactly what a nihilist is supposed to do. nihilism is freeing yourself from having meaning forced upon you and creating your own meaning.
Rather than go through those mental gymnastics, just accept that you were born a sinner and every good thing you do is a small act of redemption for your soul.
Andrea's meaning of life answer is much closer to Camus' existentialism. Rebelling against meaningless by finding happiness anyway. Imagining Sisyphus happy.
yea i don't understand why folks find existential nihilism "sad" or "unnecessary"... how can you have real agency (aka free will) if you don't exercise it right from fundamentals? if your foundational beliefs and definitions are just borrowed from elsewhere with little introspection or inquiry... are you even an individual person? imo, all that teenage angst is supposed to crystalise into an adulthood where a strong sense of personhood is formed. that process requires "trying out" various definitions for the meaning of life, see which one feels good, deconstruct it a little, make a buncha mistakes etc. at some point, the teenager realises their own true values and principles, having taken some meaning from elsewhere and discarded the others that did not work. the REAL sadness... is that the false promises of captitalism: financial "freedom", consumer culture, FOMO, while saddled with long work hours in mindless jobs, rent, debt, etc... all takes away time from people, so they can't even have the freedom to think for themselves what life means.
I always get the feeling that Andrea thinks too low of herself. She comes across to me as a very genuine person and I love her for that, and feel the same way about Anna and Alex as well. I enjoy witnessing your friendship with them.
OMG, that was amazing! I need more of this with a longer timer. It almost felt like watching Grubby play Direct Strike. Thank you, Anna, for this deep conversation! I imagine your older self would also advise you to be less shy and remember that you are truly amazing-it would help you a lot.
A man finds himself, to his great astonishment, suddenly existing, after thousands and thousands of years of non-existence: he lives for a little while; and then, again, comes an equally long period when he must exist no more. The heart rebels against this

2:00 Quite honestly, both of you could start your own talk show and play chess at the same time, although you don't need to have the timer on. Seriously, you can make a big hit on TV. Allie would be a must on the show. People are starving for the younger generations viewpoint....😊

I just used the cow opening for the first time today and won. And when I got excited about using it everyone looked at me like i was absolutely insane 😅
I used an example of Dina's poise in a Dharma discussion yesterday...she has to deal with a lot of confusion men have when they play her...what are they expecting? So forth...

Andrea is banned from playing the London opening
Why?
Acting, lying is acceptable. A liar situation, a liar vs a liar lying is acceptable?
Magnus plays it regularly. Irrelevant

Really lovely when Anna says spanish Words like "Madrid" or "paella 🥘"

I love ppl like her for life. I don't want anyone else
I love that vibe at 7:40.
-Andrea, when's the last time you peed your pants?
-Maybe like week and a half ago.
-Anna, what's your favourite food?
she says it so casually i didn't even register at first. 1min later i'm like "wait WHAT?"

You can't have happiness without hap, ...or a the rest of the word minus the hap

She doesn't have any survival skills, she wasn't even thinking of bringing a chess board.
Just a phone, sun screen and a book.

Alex giving the stare behind a smiling Anna is meme material 6:52 😂
Question for Anna: what's your favourite food
Question for Andrea: what's the mining of life
Mining? Not meaning but mining?
Fun fact: the girl with the smirk at the fire was at a fire demonstration. The house was built for training firefighters.

Rebel against the meaninglessness of life? That’s Camus in a nutshell.
Exactly. I also commented that it sounds like Kierkegaard's and Camus' absurdism.
A man finds himself, to his great astonishment, suddenly existing, after thousands and thousands of years of non-existence: he lives for a little while; and then, again, comes an equally long period when he must exist no more. The heart rebels against this
Has Andrea read Camus? That sounded like a Camus answer on the meaning of life.
The casualness in which she said she peed her pants two wks ago was astounding. (and the lack of reaction to it too - wow, Anna, not shocked by much?)
