The family has been following all these boat tubers channels during Covid as an escape method of entertainment, having fanciful and whimsical discussions of entering as a tribe into that lifestyle and what sort of fleet of narrowboats would we would require. I’m thinking we would need at least one reverse layout craft and just so there is no confusion we would have to name her Sdrawkcabmai
A friend of mine wanted a sailboat, his wife(Ruth,) told him, you buy a damn boat, I'm leaving you, he bought the boat immediately, a week later I helped him sail it home, he renamed it ( Ruthless )😁😁😁
Running around your boat three times naked when it’s a full moon is supposed to mitigate against bad luck and it particularly helps if done with friends. Fantastic if this works, however sounds fun even if it doesn’t work.
Dear Jasmine, I have a question for you. Masts on ships is definitely salty water as opposed to canals! Seafarer's can be superticious (can't spell it) folk. Do boaters follow seafarer's traditions and terminology? Some boaters tie up their boats and others moor them. Most of you at junctions, turn left or right not port or starboard. Are nautical terms being used by boaters a new trend or were they used in horse down days?
i think we use a mix of sea and narrow boat terms , if you what to know about the old terminology used read ramlin rose the boat woman story, its very good!
You should pull it out of the water. And strip all the name off the boat log too on all the equipment as well. Then when you put her back in the water it should be as if it’s a new boat and don’t call by her old name. And pirates would port under one names but sail under another. So if you changed your ships name and some naval officer remember it by a old name they may take you as a pirate. (Bad luck )
OK, true story. I had an older tri-hull fiberglass boat that was un-named. I had a GF that suggested that I name it after her. Heck, I didn't care, so I told her that I would. Shortly, after that, she left me, on Xmas day, along with a chunck of money, some valuables and a bit of my self esteem. She would visit a neighbor occasionally and I still talked to the neighbor and the neighbor mentioned that I still hadn't named the boat. I got to work and in a flourish font in bold letters I painted the name of the boat on the side nearest the neighbor. Soon after the neighbor mentioned that the ex had been at her house and was mad that I didn't name it after her. I said "I did name it after her".... I named it "WartHog" Tootles... Wade
Do What to the mast ?!! that makes putting a name on the side seem like a much better idea ,new rule don't do any carving on a mast !! I never heard that before thank you
When I brough my narrowboat she was called Lucie. I renamed her Ezri. (After the fictional character in the TV show Star Trek Deep Space Nine) didn't get told about the superstitions in changing about a name. I told however that I would be wiping out her previous history but as I couldn't find any history. I figured we would just make our own. And no there was no naming ceremony or wastes of alcohol or anything of that kind it was just changing the name on the licence.
If your narrowboat has a bell on it (I know it´s rare but still) if you change the name of the boat don´t do it on the bell. Also, never buy a bottle of metal-polish and polish the bell, that´s about the worst you can do.
Hi Jasmine very very excited and thank you!!! Lol I’ve only just been able to watch the video properly because I’m now on my boat wahooo and I’m loving every second! But internet isn’t working properly yet. I’m relieved because I chose to re name my boat while she was having the survey, phew 😅 but I’ve decided as her old name was tortoise I’m going to paint a little tortoise on her somewhere. hopefully that will keep everything happy lol
Yay!!! how exciting! how is it all going? how will you be getting your internet? thats a very cool idea! i have no idea what i would rename a boat.... some one made a great boat joke to me the other day but i have compleatly forgotten it ! hahaha
ThisNarrowboatAdventure I’m loving it. I had an interesting moment when pumping out my toilet for the first time lol, in short it built up back pressure and well it turned into a fountain....... enough said lol... my seven year old daughter Rosa keeps going “Ahoy” to everyone we pass now she’s a big fan lol 😂
Really bad luck to rename a boat - not a big fan of the one mine has but will stick with it to avoid calling down bad luck (won’t disclose name here for fear of hurting her feelings).
I think it`s fascinating how people believe in superstitions, you will be telling me that some boats are haunted next lol. Thank you for the vlog, Jasmin.
We renamed our boat whilst she was out of the water as we didn't like the original name. I'm not particularly superstitious, however my wife wanted to follow the tradition.
When I saw you all smiles I thought you were going to say that you finally escaped the pound you have been stuck in and got some water finally. How is that going?
New South Wales Transport Minister Andrew Constance will rename Ferry McFerryface after popular children's author and illustrator May Gibbs amid questions over the name's popularity in a public poll PS like car number plates have name 3 to 6 must end in N for NSW Q for QLD V for VIC T for TAS S for SA

i dont think i would be brave enough! I would probably fall in , if you fall in does that mean the sea gods disaprove of the new name?

Would like to see you go along to a boat changing ceremony and give us a flavour and your take on it, happy boating
If i hear of one ill be sure to :)
We will be renaming our boat in the water probably with champagne but we don't believe in superstitions. You make your own luck in life 😁
can i come to your renaming ?

i love star trek! have you watched any of the newest season?
ThisNarrowboatAdventure Yes I watched the whole thing. Using Netflix
@@ThisNarrowboatAdventure I'll be naming my narrowboat, Enterprise. Hopefully won't get any Klingons on the starboard bow.
Outstanding! Thank you! Love your style. All hail from Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada.
thanks andy!

I wonder if the narrowboat lad will rename his new boat? Will any of us be able to call Dan's new boat anything but Tilly II? :)
she should at least have a lady name.....
What is the best type of name for a narrow boat? A thing, a person, an animal, or a theme. Or do you just call it skinny boat.
Great video as always. From the Great Northwest, USA
thank you loren!
Very interesting. Awesome
i don`t no about changing the boat name being unlucky, but i do no leaving the weed hatch open is unlucky, KTF x

you live and learn! big love to rosa!
What about renaming a submerged boat (under water) and let it then emerge with the new name/identity - just like the Phoenix from the ashes?
i havent heard any superstitions about that. i think it would be hard to repain a name or to carve and new one underwater thought!
@@ThisNarrowboatAdventure : I would not paint the new name under water. ;-)
Really bad luck to rename a boat - not a big fan of the one mine has but will stick with it to avoid calling down bad luck (won’t disclose name here for fear of hurting her feelings).
i dont love mines name but not sure what i would call her other wise?

All love, and best wishes, Claire, Berlin, Germany 😊 😙 😙 ✌ ✌
thanks claire always lovely to hear from you!
What is your narrowboat called ?
not something I put online !
First I’ve heard about carving names on mast ! 😂😂😂😂😂
well i am basically an encylopedia and am never wrong as i am a robot and not designed that way
I would climb the widest ocean and swim the highest mountain...
You don' t rename a girlfriend normally. Well unless she has a really silly name of course! The same applies to boats.
but nick names are ok!
Have you fixed that curtain rail yet young lady x
And ignore Terry Gill lol
its not broken the tape just makes it easier to open and close the curtains
Interesting, I knew it was bad luck, but not why.
I was pretty excited when i was told that !
My boat USED to be called "Susan".
did you change it in or out of the water?
@@ThisNarrowboatAdventure I can't remember, it might have been either?
We renamed our boat whilst she was out of the water as we didn't like the original name. I'm not particularly superstitious, however my wife wanted to follow the tradition.
what was the old name?
The old name was Martin E, which was a bit unusual and no one seemed to know what it meant. She is now called Nanny Ogg
When I saw you all smiles I thought you were going to say that you finally escaped the pound you have been stuck in and got some water finally. How is that going?
we have escaped! phew!
hi in new south wales name boats after female wife and daughter

Are your eyes a shade of green? You of-course don't have to answer, different light source today i guess.
Aaaargh!
Love your videos.Slices of life we would otherwise not see.
Why appease Gods we don't believe in?
tradition
Tradition has killed thousands of people, but meh, tradition is fun.
What an utter load of bull
That's a great name for a boat ^^
or "utter load of hull"
