Steven was the reason why i picked up the bass - I love this guy and he was next to Siouxsie Sioux the second brain of the band.

      The same...
To the point I wanted to have the same bass...
And I looked at the "Nocturne" photos, he played a Wal Mach 1 that was not available in France (and I didn't know at that time, a very confidential elite production I could not afford) So I bought the first cheap enough black 2+2 bass I found in 1983. I still own this Aria Pro II bass that is finally a quite honourable instrument. Later I bought a Musicman Stingray, and finally that was it :)
Covering the Banshees' songs was part of my bass guitar learning method. XD
I was quite alone playing this music in the 80's, most of my friends were boxed into the bleues / established pop and I am glad some people published some Banshees' covers on tutube since then :) Their music is so unique it has to be transmitted to next generations.

everybody sees Siouxsie Sioux when they think of the Banshees, and rightfully so, as she was an obvious HUGE part of the Banshees, i mean, she was the Banshees, but so was this guy!!

Yes you are right the Banshees are 50% Sioux, 50% Steve
I am a great fan since nearly the begining.
Banshees were born from Siouxsie & Steven Severin. The begining of the band is closely melted with their personal life in their 20's.
Very few know that they were about to became a couple when the music business interfered and prevent them to go further in their personal life (couple problems often dont match with band life and music business), they will they experienced that 10 years later...
Other members where added from their relationship and then the band had a persistent line up.
Only Sioux & Steve were present since the begining,
The heart of the Banshees is Sioux & Steve, and then came John Mc Geoch and Budgie. At that time they were unstoppable.
Mc Geoch and Budgie were the perfect artists to bring the ideas of Sioux and Severin to the upper level.
So sad Mc Geoch quit and sadly died a few years after (but served as an excellent guitarist for PIL before)
So sadly Budgie & Sioux had difficulties to stay only musicians and this brought many tension during tour and recordings.
So sad this occured when they were about to access the top of the pops, when they recorded the soundtrack for that Batman film,, the Superstition album...
There were so many personal problems, and one had problems mastering drinking that particulary disappointed Steve as a musician.
Then the band brokeup after a last album that I may say is souless, even if offering very cool intentions.
Later on alcohol got also rid of Sioux mariage with budgie.
Now shes sadly perfoming around the globe with a very sad band, singing mostly the Banshees' most famous pieces... I have big sorrow for her. And since ~2010 it seems shes has big difficulties to sing, even the earlier Banshees songs where the voice performance was much "easier" from a technical point of view.
"I am not finished"... yes... but may be she needs to switch to songwriting/producing/coaching or even became a writer.
Steve switched to other activities such as production, or film music composer.
Steve Severin is also the official keeper of the Banshee's archives.
Like Steve Harris in Iron Maiden, he is like the man in the shadow that made all of the band achievements possible.
And I may say, according to all his intervieaw's I've read or eared, is a quite "space" man ahahah XD

@@tricosteryl I think their best work was the Sioux/Severin/Budgie/McGeoch lineup. And McGeoch was part of so many pivotal and consequential bands!!! Magazine and Visage as well!
