Kagome is who Kikyo wished to be. Kagome is ultimately better than Kikyo for Inuyasha. Kikyo's love for Inuyasha is still there but also somewhat broken while Kagome's love for Inuyasha is more pure.

That happens to me too. I'm surprised to read that many people had to grow up to empathize with Kikyo. I watched the anime for the first time when I was 5 y.o. and it seemed to me that the tragedy was so evident. I was really surprised how many people hate her. She's my favorite character.
I absolutely despised kikyo when I was a kid, because I viewed her as someone throwing a wrench into the inuyasha/kagome relationship, I had a very surface level view of her now as an adult I understand her and she has become my fav character
Because the director wanted us to see kikyo as a hateful character but kikyo is good and kikyo is lovable character. Not even the gods can separate them. He only has kikyo in his heart .

As a kid myself watching this anime , never had the understanding why she went through all this As the story progressed to what it's now me being 26, I look at this and appreciate the realness of this show and how life is unfair..and how you have to be grateful..
While I don't think it's...Healthy... To suggest some souls have a higher purpose as opposed to others, some people do seem to lead more complex and ambitious lives than others, and Kikyo's definitely one of 'em. I love how pale she was in the original series because no matter how pretty she is this remenber you that also she look almost ill, almost pale as dead body because she IT dead, her body is no more than Mud, bones or what let of bones and more earth.. just a pretty doll a very tradic doll

Wait , i love kikyo because she is good , talented and very kind to children and innocent because at that time she isn't aware of naraku's existence. If she's aware of him she would have known naraku that he was in disguise of inuyasha. I know kikyo from the very beginning and also the tragic love song of destiny part 1 and 2. Inuyasha and kikyo are the best and perfect couple. I was cried 😢 for that naraku made an unforgivable and separated inuyasha and kikyo. Someday things will change and inuyasha story will be remade as kikyo as a heroine with same color and beauty and inuyasha would be same but I want inuyasha to full fledged demon as strongest hero such as his father great dog demon.

I was a child when I saw Kikyo and definitely fall for her character. There is so much somber I couldn’t explain why but loved her character. Now into the culmination of her death and rebirth and sacrifice I admired her even more. She was hurt but ultimately fulfilled her role as a priestess and even chose to save kohaku 1 of my fave characters as well 😭 Kikyo, i know you’re fictional, I know you have fulfilled your duties to the very end. One of the most well written tragic character imo.

Cuando yo era pequeña, a mí no me gustaba Kikyou porque yo la veía como el tropo común de la mujer que se interponía entre la pareja principal como las hay en muchos programas de anime. Pero cuando crecí, después de sobrevivir el dolor de un amor terminado y la traición, la entendí mucho mejor y me duele el corazón cuando pienso en ella. Es un personaje mucho más complicado de lo que parece, y wow como sufrió esa mujer hasta el final. A mi me encanta Kagome porque ella es una persona bastante fuerte y tiene el corazón leve; pero también la quiero mucho a Kikyou.

I don't read the whole manga but some pierces that I had reading shows a Kikyo more likeble and that cares a lot about InuYasha. They change her character in the anime so It's why people hate her. She looks a little evil but in the mange she is not evil she just has pain for the past

I think a lot of it has to do with the directing, and perhaps a portion of it (certainly in my case) is life experience. There is an anime trope that is so common and honestly irritatingly overused in shoujo which is like the "villain" woman who tries to get in between the main love interest of the show. They're petty, immoral, vindictive, and sometimes flat out cruel. A lot of the directing of the anime played off a lot of old school tropes and gag comedy which even in its time was honestly not so great, but then looking back aged even more poorly lol. I think a lot of people wrote her off as one of these tropes - the petty chick who was just trying to ruin everything, creating a beautiful platform from which the main characters could jump off and prevail. In actuality, Kikyou was a much deeper, complicated, and more beautiful character than that. The complexity of her sorrow and desperation to reconcile her pain with her good heartedness as a priestess were often overshadowed by a lot of these tropes. And especially as many of us were kids when we were watching it (I was like nine years old), so much of that subtle character development went straight over our heads lol. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that I think so many people hate her because they misunderstand her. I don't think what she's gone through justifies a lot of what she did because she did still do some pretty reprehensible things. But she's not a mindless evil plot device. She was a fully fleshed out character with deep suffering.
@@SchUlrich They really were sweet. I don't mean to bash Kagome...but if you take her out of the story it really would be a more intense fairy tale story. I'm not against "isekai" on its own, Kagome's situation is a bit like Spirited Away, but she sort of interferes with the whole vibe at times with her modern schoolgirl self-insert status.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is that I think so many people hate her because they misunderstand her. I don't think what she's gone through justifies a lot of what she did because she did still do some pretty reprehensible things. But she's not a mindless evil plot device. She was a fully fleshed out character with deep suffering.

I don't mean to bash Kagome...but if you take her out of the story it really would be a more intense fairy tale story.
I'm not against "isekai" on its own, Kagome's situation is a bit like Spirited Away, but she sort of interferes with the whole vibe at times with her modern schoolgirl self-insert status.

I can't stand people pitying her in the comments. Kikyō was a total Girl Boss! The queen of sass. She wasn't completely flawless; Kikyō acted like a ruthless bitch from time to time (yeah, out of sorrow and bitterness because of her tragedy) and that's why I absolutely ADORE her.
Girl boss is like something that Kikyo would truly despise.
