People who veer off course most often times have self destruct tendencies, drug abuse, depression, etc.. Some people cope with this better than others. It has much to do with how disciplined you are in taking corrective action. Often times you hear celebrity stories where the person admits that if it weren't for their children (or another significant other), they would have committed suicide long ago. George was probably in the worst situation to be in when you take into account his past.
George was one of the greatest, but, honestly, he had far FAR more talent than what he was able to put in the albums or tours. His chaotic, complicated, troublesome career and personal life made it difficult. He could have been a much bigger artist in every sense. He wasn't able to fully reach his peak. Always felt, despite what he said, he was deeply unhappy. Had to walk forward carrying some heavy chains.
He seems like a conflicted man. Fame is awful at its core and it takes a strong person to deal with it today.
