I usually use 12-14 pound mono/floro or 30-40 pound braid!
When you go to set the hook, use your thumb on the spool as a drag. Just a suggestion.
I own 3 baitcasters. All 3, rod and reel, would cost less than that reel did! When I'm retired, kids long out of college, wife is gone, and I've sold my house maybe I can afford to get fancier rod and reel combos. But for now I'm happy with what I have :-) Your lady is pretty nice to buy something like that for you. I'm lucky I get a card from my wife on my birthday, lol!

Light line on their baitcasters? I have a medium action baitcaster rod I've used for years that I put 8 pound mono on it. I've tried other lines on it but the 8 pound mono seems to work best with it.

What does the 151 stand for? They also make a 150 but I can't believe they would specify a 1 yard difference in capacity.
I don't know if it's true but someone once said if it ends in 1 it is left hand drive? It looks to be the right answer as if you look the reel up in my link in the description the 151 like I have is a LH Drive vs the 150 is RH drive! Hope that helps👊🏼🎣

Excellent choice..that is definitely an awesome looking reel..n arguably the best on the market and it's not even close unless it's another dc reel lol..shimano is king...the rest of the companies are light years behind in technology and are only changing materials and not design improvements as far as the technology goes. Spinning reels I'm a penn guy and some shimano and Abu Garcia as well..but pen is my favorite for deep sea and bay fishing for large game fish and trolling
What is the best lure for this XG DC is it top water lure the best option?

Also P.S. if your looking for the best reel under $100 Hands down the SLX. (FROM MY EXPERIENCE)
But the best "starter" baitcaster is a lews classic pro.....$60-$70 and I use it almost as much as my SLX!😂😂😂😂🎣🎣🎣

F**ck it Im going with the 8.5. Everyone is saying the 7.4 is for better all around fishing, but jus like you said you it’s easier to slow down the retrieve than to be cranking to go a little faster.

I prefer the scorpion dc but the metanium does look slicker..haven't used my curado dc yet because they sent me a left handed retrieve and I'm not comfortable reeling left handed with a bait caster at all..so instead of ruining my experience I'd prefer to trade it for a righty retrieve before I put any line on it..I normally use 50lb braided spider wire.. that's my go to..that stuff is like iron cable...never seen anything close to it since I been using braid..and it's still thinner that 10lb-12lb test mono..its amazing..I used it on all my other dc reels..once u use a dc reel u can't go back to using anything else. All my Abu Garcia reels are the ones I let friends use 😂🤣😅 so they can learn to control the cast on the bait caster reels.
