Chelsea & Tony Northrup teach the beginning photographers the Exposure Triangle: Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO. They'll teach you how to use your mirrorless camera or DSLR to set low f/stop numbers, like f/1.4, let in more light and blur the background more. They'll also teach you how to use shutter speed to hide or show motion. First, however, they'll start with the easiest setting: ISO, which controls the brightness of your image.

Well Done, Team Northrup!
These are the kind of videos that made me a subscriber and a better photographer.
We all have a lot to learn, bring it on!
The panic and confusion on Chelsea's face at 8:03 when Tony threw over his head the lens cap is so funny.
😂
OMG, best camera tutorial so far. Cut to the chase and everything is clear. Thanks a lot. Best wish to both of you 🤗
Thanks you two for showing true examples and explaining in a good way. I have followed you both for years and you never fail to enlighten me. A big THANK YOU
It's always good to keep the basics fresh. Bravo Team Northrup!
The triangle of photography. Very basic, with a very clear and good explanation. The way you did it, everyone should understand it. Great video. You are very good in complementing each other.
Very nicely done. Great examples using increments that clearly show the results of different settings.
Great vid.! I shared it with a few friends who are just getting into photography during all this. It's aways great to back to the basics. Well done & stay safe & healthy. Thank you !
Hi, I am trying to get better at photography too & know some good channels like Manny Ortiz & Jason Lanier, do you know some other useful channels like Tony & Chelsea? thank you
I EXTREMELY appreciate the way you guys explain things. I was having a difficult time understanding how to control a camera until you came along. So I THANK YOU!
Great tips, Chelsea and Tony. So glad I found you guys here. Bought a few of your books and learning a lot. I grew up in the film age of photography and have been using digital for quite some time. Always looking to learn new things. Thank you!
Thanks for such a clear explanation of the exposure triangle. I love the fact that you "Show, Don't Tell." You clearly demonstrate everything.
Thank you so much. Very well explained. The basics and all the explanation is very well demonstrated and this has helped Amateurs like me to a great extent. I have subscribed to your channel so that I don't miss out on your wonderful videos.
I wish you both the very best. Thank you.
What a great video! I've trained people to run video cameras and it took a long time to get exposure manipulation across to them. If I was going thru that again I would just show them this video. So much in just 10 minutes! Thanks!
Amazingly helpful guides and examples with the technical numbers on screen 💜
You have always been the best. Never stop teaching and guiding.
Superb production and education! Even have the “Fear of Chelsea” as a motivator...
I've spent the last week or so explaining camera basics to a friend getting into photography, this video will be the perfect follow up and is even better than the original version on this channel that I learned from back in the day. Thanks!
Thanks, Goran!
Hey guys! No video has been so singularly and instantly game-changing in my understanding of cameras and how that applies to my streaming/videos. After watching this, I went back to my set up and changed settings following your advice, which immediately improved my video quality and consistency (no more weird tonal shifts cuz the camera was auto-adjusting to whatever colour of light was shining from my monitor onto my face!). I cannot thank you enough! ^_^
great point, I need to remember to experiment with custom white balance, keep using it on auto 😣 too convenient
I love it. I like the way you explain with showing live picture.. Grateful
You guys are the best photo teachers on youtube..👍👍
Great video for any kind of beginner great work you all!!
Whaaat was that at the end!!! You two are just awesome!!! :D
A nice refresher!! Thank you Tony & Chelsea!
Nobody covers photography better. You guys are just terrific! Thank you for bringing my amateur skills along!! Fabulous!!
Great video! You guys clearly explain and illustrate all subject matter in this video. Than you guys!
This is the best explanation for the exposure triangle. I was confused about this and never set it correctly. Now, I really know my setup mistake. Thank you so much!
Superb demonstration of this concept so far. Thanks.
Wow! Spot on . Succinct and clear explanation, and perfect for visual learners.
Very nice clear explanation of one of the fundamentals of photography. Though I am not to to this venue, I appreciate the refresher. Thanks for putting it so clearly.
Fantastic, I always struggle with this stuff, and I love what Chelsea said about listening to your camera. Thank you.
same here, decided to use AUTO for photography until I learn more
This was my favorite video in a while. Nice job!
Watching this video is somewhat surreal. One of the first photography vids I ever watched was the original exposure triangle vid by T&C. Now, about three years and many, many T&C videos later, I am watching a video about something I already (mostly) understand. Thanks T&C, glad I found ya'll when I was just getting started.
Great video, nothing new to many of us, however, for a beginner this explains the exposure triangle exceedingly well in a short time. I have been in classes that took an hour to do this and it was not done as clearly and concisely as it was in this video. Two thumbs up, a video I will refer some of my beginner friends too.
Thank you, years ago I had started learning from your channel a lot. sharing your video to my friend is always better than i teach my friends.
Thank you so much for taking the time to post this beautiful video:)....it helps me so much for a beginner.
Your Videos are aspiring Educational and TOP. Congrats to You both! ❤
This is such an amazing explanation for a beginner, thanks a lot! You just a got a new subscriber!
Thanks for the informative video. Stay safe in the current climate and best wishes from Scotland.
I'm literally a rookie. Got my D7000 as a first camera yesterday. This was the first video I really understood and got som good pictures after watching it. It should be the first video every beginner should see! Thank you 👍
Oh my word; thanks for all of these exact settings!!! Much needed.
I love you guys. Always informative and easy to understand. Thanks!
Oh my God, this was so simple to understand! I had almost given up, but I will pick up my D5500 and start learning again 😄. Thank you ❤️🙏
so simple when you put it like this! Thank you for a lovely explanation of all this "stuff!"
Finally a video explaining simple tasks for beginners with their camera ...Great job !! I might buy your book ,,,,,:))))
J'aime toujours autant votre travail ! Good job!
I really like that you guys are going back to the classics!
This is what I love about you two!
Your Zany, Crazy, Goofy, Silly, yet
all ways creatively informative.
Consider another video on how to shoot a dark subject against a
dark back ground. And then a lighter subject against a bright
back ground. Provide for us tips on
how to achieve subject/background separation. Of course
with the same zany antics as in this video.
Looking forward to vewing it.
Thank you both for starting to update the old videos it looks so much better and the examples were great. please do all the other ones. you guys have more time on ur hands now so get to it. 😂
Don’t go anywhere else to learn photography, Tony & Chelsea are the absolute best at teaching it.
Yeah.. You are absolutely right!
This guide is awesome . Thank you.
I understood your teaching so I keep watching only your videos and I spend more time photographing and less time learning.
If getting back into it, I would watch this channel!!!!
Very basic tutorial. Good job! And I really like the fan as an example for shutter speed
This video looked great and was clear, concise, and not weird at all riiiiiiiiiight up until the last 20 seconds
Thank you. You two are amazing teachers!
Our pleasure!
Educative, short and precise. Thanks
You guys THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH 🏆📸❤️ I love how you guys explain to us about the cameras 🎥 you thought me A LOT 💯 I subscribed and I am glad I did because you guys taught me a lot about cameras 📷 I thought photography was just taking photos (well I know it is) but I just thought 💭 u take one photo and that’s it. But thanks 😊 A LOT💝
Best ending to a video ever. Thanks for all the great tips. I will practice all of them..
Wow... Thank you for the lesson, it helps a lot.
So well-explained. Thank you.
Your videos are great, thank you!
Fantastic tutorial - keeps me in Manual mode!
What a great tutorial. Thanks!

Love you two, keep up the great work. :)
Nice video, easy to understand exposure triangle.
thank you for a great video. it helps me a lot. the more I watch your video the more I learn
A very good instructional video thank you.
Excellent as always, thank you
Thank to this couple, when i was lerning and confuse other were not very edutcative but Tony & Chelsea Northrup help me understand simple things which other has made very complicating. i wish to meet and shoot with them one day. love you two so much.
what did you learn from this video?
I like you guys great informative videos which have helped me a lot. Thanks
You know you love that blurry background tony, Bless you Both....great vid love you guys
I know all this, but I still default to low ISO + wide open apertures + and the shutter speed to make it all work. This was a helpful reminder that ISO can be pushed, that shutter speeds can be increased + that aperture doesn't always have to be wide open. Great video. I'll watch it a few more times.
Thank you soo much! This is very helpful.
Excellent video for beginners...
This is the easiest tutorial to follow. Thank you.
Tony and Chelsea... really great teacher
Tony, I discovered your videos and I am learning so much about photography, I want to but your Digitall photography book. Right now on quarantine here in miami beach I am watching the Pentax history, I want to purchase the K-70. Very informative. Keep up the good work!
Hows it going in Miami? warm 80s ?

Glad you think so!

I needed to learn this, thank you very much :)
BIG THANK YOU GUYS 🙂
You guys are awesome ! Thank you !
Great stuff. Thanks guys
was very helpful! thanks a lot!!
Great video. Thanks, folks!
It’s fun to see tony throw the lens cap 😍
Excellent! You could not have made it simpler!
Thanks for amazing job!
I'm sure someone will say iso not part of exposure so no triangle exists and iso is only gain. I'm waiting and already smiling.
This tutorial is very helpfull to start understanding. After that you can learn ETTR... exposure vs iso
Fantastic Video congratulations
Great Video!
nice! XD ok ok i'll comply with the free subscription! thank for the explanation, finally some clear explaining, as a newbie photographer this is amazing!
Great videos!!
Great video ❤
HAHAHA . Love Chelsea's squinting eyes when Tony says: "If you're a math nerd like me" at 6'22" loooolllll.
Thanks for the tips.
This was the video that made me subscribe
Nice quality update to beginner info. Makes me wonder if you plan on doing more updates to things like composition, sharpness, focal lengths, etc...
Great info thank you
