Chelsea & Tony Northrup teach the beginning photographers the Exposure Triangle: Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO. They'll teach you how to use your mirrorless camera or DSLR to set low f/stop numbers, like f/1.4, let in more light and blur the background more. They'll also teach you how to use shutter speed to hide or show motion. First, however, they'll start with the easiest setting: ISO, which controls the brightness of your image.

    Rule of Doubles: sdp.io/double
Nifty Fifty to blur the background: sdp.io/fast50

What a great video! I've trained people to run video cameras and it took a long time to get exposure manipulation across to them. If I was going thru that again I would just show them this video. So much in just 10 minutes! Thanks!

Hey guys! No video has been so singularly and instantly game-changing in my understanding of cameras and how that applies to my streaming/videos. After watching this, I went back to my set up and changed settings following your advice, which immediately improved my video quality and consistency (no more weird tonal shifts cuz the camera was auto-adjusting to whatever colour of light was shining from my monitor onto my face!). I cannot thank you enough! ^_^

Watching this video is somewhat surreal. One of the first photography vids I ever watched was the original exposure triangle vid by T&C. Now, about three years and many, many T&C videos later, I am watching a video about something I already (mostly) understand. Thanks T&C, glad I found ya'll when I was just getting started.

Great video, nothing new to many of us, however, for a beginner this explains the exposure triangle exceedingly well in a short time. I have been in classes that took an hour to do this and it was not done as clearly and concisely as it was in this video. Two thumbs up, a video I will refer some of my beginner friends too.

I know all this, but I still default to low ISO + wide open apertures + and the shutter speed to make it all work. This was a helpful reminder that ISO can be pushed, that shutter speeds can be increased + that aperture doesn't always have to be wide open. Great video. I'll watch it a few more times.
