+John Adams Don't worry, it's not too disturbing. Nothing will shock you & make you panic, it's more of a movie that as you sink further into feels disturbing & weird but you go for the ride.
I read a comment from someone on another video that worked on different film with a grip that worked on Gummo and said that the real story is that Harmony was wasted pretty much the whole filming and threw a large framed painting (not his sister) through bay window and it hit one of the other grips in the head, so they crew got fed up and put him in the van and basically said they're not filming anymore and he was forced to finish the film on that day.
The way I remember it was, after shooting the scene, Harmony walked outside and through a huge rock through the window walked back inside and said, "Fuck yeah, I just made a movie!.' I gave him the mason handshake and the producer got on the radio and said, "someone get chloe!" etc. etc. It was a drunk fucked up night that's for sure.
@@suckinspongebobs where's he say that? You can't pin something so basic on this work. If you laugh, you laugh, but there's so much more going on here. This is an honest and difficult look into what it is to be alive, comedy, tragedy, all of it.
I'm interested in his comment- "In order to get to a place where I could be that honest with my emotions I needed to...be in a certain state..." I'd like to know what people think about the role of drugs in the art world. Do you still value what the artist produces under the influence? Or do you see it as a product of the drugs they take rather than of their own imagination? (If you haven't guessed, I'm working on a project concerning the subject, and would like to hear what you think.)
+spontina No. If you see something in a work the artist never intended, that's called miscommunication. "Meeting" the artist would brought said miscommunication to light.
I thought that the movie portrays why tornadoes hit trailer parks and hick towns? At least that's what I thought the movie was about. Great movie though.
Mystha If you haven’t found it yet, it’s hard to find even a hard copy. It’s on the 123movies, notorious for being a little sketchy, but I watched it on my phone with little to no issue. Definitely made for bigger screen, but it worked
No one picks up on the fact that these are Bushwick Bill lyrics.. a black midget rapper who shot his own eye out.. hahaha it sounds made up but it’s not.. this interview is fucking gold.. Geto Boys hahahaha
Yes, some parts of the scene are funny, but this particular bit is meant to be seen as something pitiful, heart-wrenching... Listening to his drunken, broken croaks makes my eyes sting.
@thebaldwomenshow - looks like you need to re-read the original post, and then re-think what you said. first, I made sure to put "almost always"...not "always", as your argument implies. next, even if my statement was that ALL gay people seek attention (which it wasn't...again, please read ALMOST), that doesn't mean "anyone who seeks attention is gay." just let that sink in...it's logic. and lastly, you wanna know how stereotypes are kept alive? ITS BY THE PEOPLE WHO CONTINUE TO FIT THEM!
You know what is funny? How you guys feel you're so much more intellectual and 'in the know' because you don't laugh at a scene that is obviously deliberately funny and awkward. You don't think Harmony filmed this and thought to himself 'this is so very serious, i put absolutely no comedic value in any of my films.' Jesus, you people should get off your high horse and enjoy the film like the people in the audience obviously are.

I'm going to get the Thumbs Down for this, but I'm reallu getting sick of Korrine's whole schtick. He bills himself as a provocateur, someone who does what no one else will, but the fact is that his films are hilariously conventional in their "shock." Incest! Short-statured people! And now Michael Jackson impersonators? He should take a cue from his buddy Herzog and take some real chances, emotionally and intellectually.
I don't know why the crowd laughed, it was one of the serious parts of the movie.
arturo vilchis maybe they felt awkward?
They were probably laughing at Harmony cringing into a ball.
A man pouring beer on his head will always be funny.
Yeah, the dude was in pain.
nah this scene was funny af yall trippin
It's all about context. Compared to the rest of the film that scene could probably make you cry. On its own though, it is kinda funny.
This film was beyond disturbed so much it's a masterpiece.
what is so disturbing about it. I don't want to watch it unless I know. I'm a baby
+John Adams Don't worry, it's not too disturbing. Nothing will shock you & make you panic, it's more of a movie that as you sink further into feels disturbing & weird but you go for the ride.
Okeee I'll check it out. I've seen eraserhead and I liked it so I doubt this is much worse
Mason Andretti NO WHERE NEAR A MASTERPIECE
eraser head is fucked up to watch if you are high
i have no idea what the hell he's talking about most of the time yet i watch a bunch of his interviews anyways. he's quite an intriguing person
I finally saw Gummo for the first time last night, and it blew me away. Really stirs up a lot of feelings. I need to watch Korine's other films
Kids
@@marley1995 hardcore movie
His best movie is jungle 2 jungle starring Tim Allen.
Gummo was filmed in my neighborhood (the nations) lol, i even saw my house in the bike scene
nitelyfe is that area like the flim? I'm not asking in a rude way just curious since I've heard the flim tired to make it seem like the area
itzz yy nah
Plasma what’s the nations like?
Plasma are you still alive?
Liar.
Love the intersectionality of hip hop with korine 🤨 it’s so organic and yet unexpected 😂
Why cant Harmony Korine and David Lynch re-do Earnest goes to camp, and hire Crispin Glover............damn, i can dream cant i...
You ever see that porno when Ernest was popular. “ Ernest fucks butts”
Top tier porn name.
Omg😮 I would love that
i love how nobody gets the bushwick bill reference
Loved that Little Brian being nicknamed after Bushwick Bill from Geto Boys.
i hated it when the audience laughed
Why?
It’s funny, why not ?
@@jacobloving6765 I didn't find it even remotely funny. It's sad and poignant and fascinating, but not funny.
Yeah, I never really found it funny at all
Because it's all about you and YOUR feelings, right?
I think the scene is supposed to be ironic, because the black gay dwarf is actually the most normal person in that whole fucked-up town.
Wow, did you come up with that yourself?
1) get baked
2) watch gummo
3) be amazed
4) get sober
5) regret
The ritual
Tim Aullini Outstanding
This movie is great. I was not high at all tho. Mby its bettter when u r stoned :3
1) Drop Acid
2) Watch Gummo
3) Freak out
Gummo was great and Korine is hilarious. Though, he sounds like a nightmare to work with on set. Or at least back then haha
The film quality of Gummo is amazing.
korine makes up stories so much, ive read its not clear if he actually even grew up in nashville.
Nobody got the Bushwick Bill reference... What has our world come to?
"Yeah- I saw em the other day, I gave em 20 bucks.."
so good!
I like how he doesn’t explain why he threw his sister through a window after she congratulated him.
Korine is a fucking genius.

Were you in the film?
That film has so many mental triggers. It connects me to all these weird memories I have. In no way is the film "fucked up".
' dunking a cat into water '
He seems to love psychedelics
In that David letterman interview I remember thinking that he’s totally tripping balls rn
haha he starts to peak towards the end, love that roller coaster riiiiiiiide
He is high as a fucking kite!
This guy is the weirdest man ever! I love this guy!
It reminded me a lot of Tennessee and that's why I always wonder where it was shot
This is a terribly misunderstood film and very important. Why the fuck are people laughing? People are so close-minded
"This was painful to watch" "We shoot most of the film in the last day, because we were waiting for rain"
Harmony sees his movies as comedies... why don't you?
Chill

Every one he’s ever been in is hard to watch.
Outside of the process of making art, artists should be mindful that the work speaks for itself. Sometimes it is better to never meet the artist.

I read Harmony was really drunk when they shot the scene.

No shit Sherlock.
@azurenscens
If you watch the whole thing, there's a point in the scene where the black dwarf says "I'm also a gay."
That's exactly what I was thinking...
he seems so stoned I love him
More like cokedout!
He’s tweaking
Mans popped 1 too many
I wonder if that's the same black dwarf that was always on 12th ave....
Why SHOULDN'T they laugh at it? It is a funny scene. Clearly based on humor.
Nobody said they shouldn't.
Does he have ADD?
thank you! that is exactly what I was thinking!

@azurenscens he says hes gay in the movie, and also wears tshirts supporting judaism in the movie
Gummo is the great american story.
