  • This year's Annual Public Lecture explores the relationship of science and faith. Are they mutually exclusive, or might they combine to offer deeper insights into the world as we know it? Heriot-Watt places an emphasis on STEM subjects, but we also pride ourselves on being a place where faith can be openly spoken about and explored.
This year, we are delighted to welcome back Professor John Wyatt to give the annual lecture on the subject of Transhumanism - Making Better Humans. He will consider how technological human enhancement is moving from the dreams of science fiction to hard reality. From enhanced soldiers, brain-computer interfaces, moral enhancement technology, digital avatars and radical life extension, what will the future hold for humanity? Professor Wyatt will explore the startling possibilities of enhancement technology and ask what these advances mean for human flourishing and the future of Homo Sapiens.

I suppose the answer is to use force of the law to restrict people use of tech , you know no abortions, forces pray, monitoring and surveillance. Yes a strong state with proper people as defined by the state, and we certainly restrict what can be written about even fiction.

Christianity seems particularly important within the core of this video, as expressed within its beginning.
If any form of Christianity is to survive and not become extinct as so many ancient mythologies, then Christianity needs to evolve, which means keeping the good parts of Christianity while rejecting and growing past some other parts of Christianity, because as a race we have grown beyond some of the primitive and actually very unethical believes within ancient Christianity which the super majority of modern society now finds very wrong.
If the core of modern Christianity does not change and evolve, it will become extinct.
This is in fact happening to all of humanity.
Those who evolve, who adapt, who grow, who become more than than are now, they will form the future... and those who fail to do this will become extinct.
Now... Cosmetic Surgery is NOT transhumanism.
Transhumanism is really incorporating our most advanced technologies to make us more than we are now... like having a cure to cancer... like having a cure to Alzheimer disease... like having cures to diseases like sickle cell anemia... like curing the debilitating terrible horrific torturous disease of old age.
Some idiots want us to think that it is good that you and I must physically and mentally decline as we age, slowly, painfully, and over a period of decades of going from 0 being perfect youthful health to 10 being you can't live any more as you slowly die in agony, that you should accept that.
    But, why?
The truth is that the future is going to go to those who evolve, and those who evolve will cure the disease of old age. That means "Transhumans" in the future will always normally be at "0" on the ") to 10" scale of old age disease.
This is not to say that new problems will not arise, because of course they will, and then we will have to deal with those new problems.
But those who fail to evolve will lose the ability to compete because those who fail to evolve will become the "Chimpanzee" of the future... and how much power or equality does a "Chimpanzee" have in modern human society?
Point being... humans who fail to evolve will become the "Chimpanzees" in the future of humanity.
Worse... as time move forward... those "Chimpanzees" will become extinct.
Do you really want your descendants to become extinct?
