So there's three ways that piss him off live: 1. The stage crew fucks up something 2. Jonny fucks up during one of his favorite songs 3. An audience member does something extremely annoying
To all those gleefully calling him toxic, there's a story behind each of these outbursts that you should look up before idly passing comments. E.g. both Idioteque clips come from concerts the were full of technical glitches. He's angry at the ORGANIZERS not Jonny or anyone in the band or crew.

No yelling or storming or arguing, just "Thom is pissed...for good reason...lets see how this plays out". Gotta admire the teamwork and unity. Also, Thom's accent is super rad! I had no idea he sounded like a Guy Ritchey character! Loving it.
Let's remember how both Thom and Jonny study music and they both want the songs to sound right. Jonny isn't a kid, if he didn't understand Thom they wouldn't be in a band together. I just see it as in Jonny being such an important and essential part of their music that Thom expects a lot from him, he respects Jonny a lot.
he doesn’t hate concerts lol. he hated the immense pressure he was under during the ok computer tours and the rapid amount of concerts he was forced to play at the time

I forgot which good man gave him a mantra that inspired him to write the song that became his favorite, but I remember he's also an artist of another band.
Jonny and Thom are very good friends, so are all the band members. I don't understand why people are calling Thom toxic in the comments. He isn't even explicited mad at Jonny at 1:20, he's probably just a bit stressed and miffed, since the song is very hard to play, and he just realizes he needs to take a breather. It's not like he's screaming in his face? At 3:45 the pacing just seems like stress, and the first bit of yelling was probably just him trying to get his voice over the loud instrument and the crowd. I can understand the second yell is maybe a bit much but would you blame him if you were playing to such big audiences?
I think some people in these comments that haven't heard much Radiohead need to put things into perspective. The band has been touring for 25 years, you've just watched a video of all the times Thom has gotten angry (4 minutes!), obviously it will seem to you like he is angry and toxic all the time, and this might be the only video you've seen of who he is. Catering to a live audience as a musician is hard. The reality is, you're up there on stage because you're an entertainer, and the audience you've acquired come from all different walks of that journey. Nowadays, the "single" scene has changed quite a bit in lieu of stuff like RUclips and Spotify, and they package their promotional stuff differently. In some ways, that can benefit a band trying to get a crowd a bit more if it's done right. Back a decade and all the rest of the decades prior, it was a very different scene. In the 90s as Radiohead was coming up, they had more hooks and more specifically radio friendly songs than they had post-Kid A era. Things changed, but the fans they originally grabbed didn't really change and they probably ended up losing a lot of them on the way out of the 90s. They had to play creep 4 times so the TV Crew could get all the shots a d it really pissed off Thom. They also weren't allowed to play the song they wanted too, so they did it after without warning. That's when he flips out a bit haha
I don’t understand the Idioteque situations? Is it a tempo or rhythmic issue? Cuz I think that first clip from 2012 sounds fuckin killer! Super fast, Clive is just digging in behind him...
During the first Idioteque you can hear the synth sound start to slow down at the drop. For the second one, apparently the feedback from the microphone to Thom’s earpiece was way too loud
It's an extremely difficult song to play, as it's so fast and frantic. So naturally mistakes do happen live. Furthermore, it's one of Thom's favourite songs, so fucking it up really frustrates him. Some guy has a dry sense of humor, “Oh, it’s a British thing.” Right, yeah…as if I’m to believe the very people that have completely different accents a half hour down the road from one another are somehow all the same deep down.
I don’t understand these crowds man, the band is clearly struggling and the crowd is fucking loving it?
from my experience when a guy does something “bad” teenage girls love it, so there’s your answer
2:38 anyone got the lyrics?
Why is it that in every live performance I’ve seen, Thom sings his own songs like he’s being held at gun point forced to?
3:45 - 4:37 imagine being stuck in an Idioteque loop forever...
What song is playing at 2:21? I forgot the title
sounds like Myxomatosis
Myxomatosis
It’s really low quality and almost impossible to hear
Hoo poor Johnny.
nah, i think he's just too passionate with the stuff he does and when things don't go the way he wants, well, he just get very angry, like any passionate human being
he's not difficult to deal with. organising concerts and tours is very hard and stressful, not to mention how hard these songs to play. its totally reasonable as to why he's mad and stressed when things go wrong.
Eu acho que não, pode ser que ele só se irrite fácil ou algo do tipo, não vi nada demais aqui também, tem artistas que se irritam por muito menos
whut d hell am doin here
They're at your performance.
Some parts are funny, some are not. Sometimes Thom could be really toxic
How?
So basically, just like every human being to ever exist?
@@maniclaude7914 see the way he believes much more than the other band members, for example the drama he made when idioteque didnt come out well. He needs to be more centered imo
@@helenagutierrez284 Exactly. In Idioteque, he gets exaggeratedly mad with Jonny. I mean, I can understand it, but does he need to do such drama getting out of stage. Just laugh at it
@heighlander 0 what songs? I've never noticed it tbh
People screaming everytime shit like this happens is so irritating
Like woohoo that's right Thom let's bully some moron now
It's just a frustrating situation, not a movie scene, soccer game or whatever
People on Radiohead shows doesn't look like they having fun.
love thom
RIP Richie Edwards
What is that second song? The one at 00:43?
Nevermind, found it. Its Present Tense
love him 😂
1:20 context?
I think Thom got pissed because Jonny messed the up with the synth. The song (Idiotique) is INCREDIBLY hard to play live. I think that why he got mad.
1:21 song?
idioteque
the only way to do that
babies in the comments typing out "toxic" clearly just learned the word today
Truer
yes, because these are literally 10 moments from his 40 year career, with thousands of performances, and they draw conclusions from this
I am a massive Radiohead fan but whenever a stage person or famous person behaves like an asshole on stage using this stage charisma it makes me angry.
In normal situation most of them know that they got a good beating.
Anyways don't worship nobody folks!
its funny in reflection, looking back or down
1:30 So childish and unprofessional smh
the modular synth thing was out of synch! How do you go on
Childish agreed
Seems like Thom can be like that... seems to a be trend with that era of music.
@@darkcnotion maybe he could just skip to the next song rather than leaving stage like a child.
The music sounds horrible lol.
The one with Idioteque was an extremely inappropriate reaction. The song broke down but the atmosphere wasn't ruined. He shouldn't have left the stage. He should stay and save it.
I mean if I was mad better to leave the stage than start screaming bloody murder or throwing things
3:58 what happened here that made him mad?
technichal issues i think (correct me if im wrong)
@@musicbyarwin_oh yeah I think the synthesiser that plays the riff wasn’t working
2:30 why are their faces so annoying
Why are we bullying random girls?
@@riahlexington why not?
You’re annoying.
where the hell was the mtv beach performance
They had to play creep 4 times so the TV Crew could get all the shots a d it really pissed off Thom. They also weren't allowed to play the song they wanted too, so they did it after without warning. That's when he flips out a bit haha
The one where he complains about the stage. Anyone have the link
For the second one, apparently the feedback from the microphone to Thom’s earpiece was way too loud
what is the first song??
Faust arp
Precious one isn't he
Anyone know what the guy Thom told to "shut up" was shouting at the beginning?
Can someone fill me in on why Thom gets pissed every time they try to play Idioteque?
Coz it’s a perfect song and takes creative intellect on a Einstein level that we can’t comprehend. I’m sure it ain’t easy being a genius
fstar jony
It's an extremely difficult song to play, as it's so fast and frantic. So naturally mistakes do happen live. Furthermore, it's one of Thom's favourite songs, so fucking it up really frustrates him.
It's also pretty bad that Jonny is the guy responsible for handling the most difficult part of the entire song, the actual synths themselves
@@zach4627 jesus, you're pathetic. Tom yorke is not a genius.
@@noram8103 their comment was obviously sarcasm
what's the title of the first song?
Faust Arp
Poor Johnny
Song at 3:46?
Idioteque
Idioteque
"unindifference" isn't a real word.
do you think the rest of the guys jump Thom after the show? I love Thom but Idk how people put up with shit like that.
First one actually rhymes and would work in the song
